How to Pay Fees Page 4 Enrolment Form Print Version Page 7 1 Introduction Applicants for a new Queensland Firearms Licence must successfully complete an approved course in Firearm Safety in the 12-month period ahead of the date when they lodge their application. The course we offer meets the requirement for a Queensland Licence for Category A and B Firearms. The course deals with knowledge, attitude and behavior needed to use firearms safely, responsibly and legally. It includes the technology of firearms and ammunition, safe handling and safe use of firearms, legal and social responsibilities of shooters, and practical shooting. Air-rifles, single-barreled and double-barreled shotguns, and single-shot and repeating rim-fire rifles are examples of Category A firearms. Single-shot and repeating centre-fire rifles, double-barreled centre-fire rifles and rifle-shotgun combinations, and muzzle-loading rifles are examples of Category B firearms. 2 When and Where Courses are Held Courses are usually held once a month on a Sunday. The starting time is 8:30 a.m., and the finishing time is 4:30 p.m. For a schedule of course dates, please refer to Section 11. Please arrive 8.15am for an 8.30am start. The venue is Davison Range Shooting Complex, 269 Fairhill Road, NORTH ARM 4561 via YANDINA. The location may be found in the UBD Sunshine Coast Street Directory - Map 36, grid reference H-13. A Map is shown on Page 5 of this guide. 3 How to Enroll A person enrolls in two (2) easy steps: pay the Course Fee fill out and send an Enrolment Form with a USI number. Fees may be paid by Internet Banking Transfer, or at a Westpac Branch or Agency, or by cheque or Money Order. For guidelines about payment methods, please refer to Section 8. After we receive a person s payment and enrolment form, we contact them and announce the earliest date when a place is available, in accordance with their preferences. There is sometimes a strong demand for places, and a course may be fully booked some time ahead. It is our policy to not accept a booking request unless it is accompanied by the payment. 4 Fee for the Safety Course SSAA Member (An Adult who pays us for SSAA membership with a Safety Course is entitled to the $120 member rate) Not a member of SSAA (a Junior paying $50 for the Safety Course is entitled to a year s SSAA membership at no extra charge) Adult $120 $150 Junior (under 18 yrs) $25 $50 (The above amounts include venue fee, booking charge and ammunition.) 5 Benefits of SSAA Membership Queensland Police accepts SSAA Membership as a reason to hold a Firearms Licence Category A B. Every SSAA Member is covered by the Association s $20,000,000 public liability insurance policy - this is printed on the Membership Card. This cover may help negotiate permission to hunt on a property. Most SSAA ranges offer discounted range fees to members e.g. 50% off at SSAA (Sunshine Coast Branch). SSAA branches help members develop shooting skills, and are a source of information about firearm selection, firearm maintenance and tuning, selection of ammunition, hand-loading, and hunting opportunities. SSAA members receive eleven (11) issues of Australian Shooter magazine each year, posted. The monthly magazine, the saving on range fees, the gold insurance cover, and the help and advice from fellow members makes SSAA membership good value for money. 6 Fee for SSAA Membership. Please bring along all documents as evidence of membership and concessions. *Please photocopy pension cards and bring both original and photocopy on the day of course. The photocopy needs to accompany your SSAA application. All Juniors must have photo ID; eg: Student Card, passport, learners permit. 7 Costings Candidates are provided on the day with study materials they keep - two (2) booklets, a frig-magnet with firearm safety rules and contact numbers of state firearm registries, a summary of firearm legislation. Students that join the SSAA at the time of booking are entitled to member s course rates. 10 What to Bring on the Day of Your Course A Photo ID is ESSENTIAL (ONE of e.g. Driver Licence, Passport, Over 18 Card, Student Card) USI number (Required for Course) + USI form download and fill out from website. During Practical Shooting ENCLOSED FOOTWEAR must be worn (thongs or sandals are not acceptable) During Practical Shooting HEARING PROTECTION must be worn.
