The course we offer meets the requirement for a Queensland Licence for Category A and B Firearms. The course deals with knowledge, attitude and behavior needed to use firearms safely, responsibly and legally. It includes the technology of firearms and ammunition, safe handling and safe use of firearms, legal and social responsibilities of shooters, and practical shooting. Air-rifles, single-barreled and double-barreled shotguns, and single-shot and repeating rim-fire rifles are examples of Category A firearms. Single-shot and repeating centre-fire rifles, double-barreled centre-fire rifles and rifle-shotgun combinations, and muzzle-loading rifles are examples of Category B firearms. 2 When and Where Courses are Held Courses are usually held once a month on a Sunday. After we receive a person s payment and enrolment form, we contact them and announce the earliest date when a place is available, in accordance with their preferences. There is sometimes a strong demand for places, and a course may be fully booked some time ahead. It is our policy to not accept a booking request unless it is accompanied by the payment. 4 Fee for the Safety Course SSAA Member (An Adult who pays us for SSAA membership with a Safety Course is entitled to the $120 member rate) Not a member of SSAA (a Junior paying $50 for the Safety Course is entitled to a year s SSAA membership at no extra charge) Adult $120 $150 Junior (under 18 yrs) $25 $50 (The above amounts include venue fee, booking charge and ammunition.) 5 Benefits of SSAA Membership Queensland Police accepts SSAA Membership as a reason to hold a Firearms Licence Category A B. This cover may help negotiate permission to hunt on a property. Most SSAA ranges offer discounted range fees to members e.g. 50% off at SSAA (Sunshine Coast Branch). SSAA branches help members develop shooting skills, and are a source of information about firearm selection, firearm maintenance and tuning, selection of ammunition, hand-loading, and hunting opportunities. SSAA members receive eleven (11) issues of Australian Shooter magazine each year, posted. The monthly magazine, the saving on range fees, the gold insurance cover, and the help and advice from fellow members makes SSAA membership good value for money. 6 Fee for SSAA Membership.
