In the summer of 2008, I made the short trip down to Lake Havasu for the first time. In retrospect, I m still wondering why I d not gone sooner since I ve lived in this region for eighteen years. What I found was a winding desert road leading into the picturesque valley where Lake Havasu resides. Everywhere I went, the town was welcoming beyond any anticipation you could imagine. Whether we re talking about the Lake Havasu Yacht Club or the Lake Havasu Convention and Visitors Bureau and everyone in between, it was clear that they would welcome the Hobie Class back with open arms. Ever since that time, we ve been steadily planning for this fabulous event, to return to large Hobie racing events on the southernmost reservoir of the Colorado River system. It has been a great pleasure working with all who are laboring to make this a world class sailing adventure for the participants. If you look back in the Hobie HOTLINE, you ll find issue upon issue with large articles about the huge Hobie events in Havasu during the heyday of Hobie Cat racing in the Southwest. Many who are coming this November have been there before in those years. Our Havasu & Hobie Reunited Regatta in February was the first time back again after a ten year absence. Once again, the colorful Hobie sails covered the lake. I can only say this: your attendance at HAVAMEGA will be part of history, bringing back a grand legacy of Hobiecat racing to Lake Havasu, and bringing it back with a bang! It has been an exciting year for me watching the registration numbers grow. Furthermore, it has been an even greater thrill to spend time on the phone, online and at regattas talking with everyone who is planning on coming. We ll have participants from throughout North America, as well as overseas. Thanks to all of you who have been spreading the enthusiasm for this event, and for making plans to spend a week at Lake Havasu this November.
