PRESIDENT S REPORT There is an actor in Hollywood, he is renowned for playing the tough guy, having done some big movies like X-men, Madagascar 3, Sherlock Holmes and many more. The interesting part of this story is that the actor was an English Premier League Football player, playing for Wimbledon he built his reputation as a tough guy, sometimes pushing the boundaries of football with illdiscipline. The fact that he was a very talented footballer was always overshadowed by his lack of discipline on and off the field, few people other than the Wimbledon loyal would know that he won the FA cup, and perhaps very few would remember he captained the Welsh national team. But the story goes that as captain of Wimbledon a new coach arrived and sent them on a pre-season run, hours went by and none of the players returned, when the coach enquired where they were? He found them drinking at the local pub around the corner, led by their captain Vinnie Jones!! Unfortunately this season there has been a huge increase in poor behaviour, from players, coaches and parents across the Sunshine Coast, while our sport is not getting the headlines that Rugby league or AFL

have received with large fights taking place, we have to be mindful that it is a kids sport and that a big part of the sport is fun and enjoyment not just results!! We are lucky as a club to have so many fantastic players, coaches and parents, but we are not immune to the Banter, the niggling from the sideline, so it is important we try to respect the players, the referee and the volunteers. As a club we have been asked to join Sunshine Coast Football in the Silent Round 15 th of July, where all miniroos to under 17s will have no talking from coaches or parents, just let the kids enjoy the game, we are hoping everyone embraces this fantastic idea and potentially look at implementing it on a more regular basis, but just as important is setting our players a good example, creating the right club culture. This is something our seniors must work hard to ensure the young juniors coming through are treating the game with a more professional approach. If we are to be successful, we want to be remembered for the great attributes we feel are important to the club, not for the ill-discipline, banter and constant niggling. Enjoy your winter holidays, see you all back in the next few weeks. Nic Basile

Caloundra Women s Mid-Season Review We are halfway through the season and both the Division 3 and Premier Women teams are in a good position to make the finals. The Division 3 team are currently sitting joint 3rd on 14 points with 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses from 8 games (they currently have a game in hand on the other team in joint 3rd). The Premier women are currently sitting in 7th place on 18 points with 5 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses from 12 games. The premier division will have a finals series for the top 8 teams as it is a combined league from Premier and Division 1 teams from last year. This is the first year in a while that Caloundra have had a team competing at this level so it has been an excellent start. The plan has always been to develop the players skills and understanding of the game and we are now starting to see the hard work the ladies have done at training now paying off during games. Both sides are playing attractive football and improving their individual skills. The great attribute within both teams is that they have never given up in any game they have played, it is something the ladies pride themselves on. They play out the game to the very end making sure they walk of the field knowing they have given 100% no matter the score, even more importantly the teams we play now know they are in for a tough match against any Caloundra women s team. This attitude about each game is instilled with the training practices by both coaches and carried out excellently by the players. The future also looks bright with plans for a female committee to be introduced in the coming months with their objective being the increase of younger female players at Caloundra.

It is exciting to see players who thought they could not play a certain way at the highest female level on the coast now having confidence during games to take players on, do a trick to get past a player, shoot from the edge of the box or create combinations of one touch play. If you have a daughter who may be interested in playing soccer at Caloundra come on down to watch and meet the players and coaches. There will be many opportunities for females at Caloundra next season. Jason Sparrow
