AN EXCITING NEW CONCEPT MICROBIOLOGY SLIDE STAINER/ CYTOCENTRIFUGE BIOMEDICAL PRODUCTS WESCOR, INC
T he Newest Innovation Is Here! Gram staining has never been so easy fast & economical The Aerospray Microbiology Stainer/Cytocentrifuge introduces an exciting new concept for the clinical laboratory two essential instruments in one economical package. With Wescor's optional Cytopro rotor, the Aerospray stainer becomes a superb cytocentrifuge featuring 8-slide capacity and keyboard programmability. All at a fraction of the cost of a stand-alone cytocentrifuge! As a Gram Slide Stainer Aerospray provides many advantages over hand staining or automated dip type stainers, including speed, economy, consistent performance, and no cross-contamination. Aerospray, Cytopro, and Cytopad are trademarks of Wescor, Inc. U.S. Patent Numbers 4,004,550; 4,089,989; 5,009,185; 5,252,228. Other Patents Pending.
Economical The Aerospray stainer is a skinflint when it comes to reagent consumption. Programmability for 2, 4, or 6 slides significantly reduces the volume of reagents required for staining partial loads and thereby significantly lowers reagent cost. Rapid Performance With a cycle time as short as 5 minutes, the Aerospray stainer can process more than 100 slides per hour. No more waiting for slides to dry they're already dry and ready to view when the staining cycle ends. No Cross Contamination In all Aerospray stainers, fresh reagent is applied as an atomized spray on slides mounted in a rotating carousel. Specimens contact only fresh stain, precisely metered from separate spray nozzles. No cross-contamination occurs and accuracy is assured. Easy to Use Simply select from 6 different decolorizer settings and start the stain cycle. That's all you have to do because the stainer takes over from there, precisely controlling all phases of the stain cycle with virtually perfect reproducibility. Optional Rotor for Cytocentrifugation For the cost of the optional Cytopro rotor, the Aerospray stainer becomes a superb cytocentrifuge with eight-slide capacity and keyboard programmability at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a stand-alone cytocentrifuge.
Ready for the Microscope in Minutes
The Wescor Process for Gram Staining T he Aerospray stainer stains microscope slides smeared with materials containing microorganisms such as culture materials, body fluids, or exudates. Wescor gram reagents are tailored to give superb results in the Aerospray stainer, i.e., a clean field in which the gram-positive organisms are blue-to-black and gram-negative organisms are red. How It Works Reagents are applied from atomizing spray nozzles onto microscope slides containing the specimens. Staining is rapid and precise. Specimens contact only fresh stain, avoiding specimen cross-contamination or contact with contaminated reagents. Fixation Specimens can be heat fixed and stained directly, or the automatic fixation feature can be used to provide a convenient and reproducible specimen fixation. Primary Stain Once slides are fixed, they are sprayed with crystal violet, a positively charged (basic) dye which rapidly penetrates microbial cells and stains them dark blue-to-black. The excess stain is then spun off and washed away with deionized water to prevent precipitate formation outside stained cells. Iodine Iodine reagent is then sprayed onto the slide. The iodine penetrates the cells and forms a precipitate (mordant) with the crystal violet dye. Excess iodine is spun off and rinsed from the slide with deionized water. Decolorizing Decolorizer is then applied to remove the crystal violet-iodine complex until only the gramnegative organisms are decolorized. Safranin (contained in the decolorizer) simultaneously counter-stains the gram-negative cells red. Decolorization is the critical step in proper gram differentiation and unless properly controlled can lead to errors. The Aerospray stainer provides a choice of decolorizer cycles ranging from 1 to 6, allowing you to compensate for thick specimens, or other possible variables. With the Wescor system, you can reproducibly differentiate sensitive organisms in normal smears. With its rapid staining cycle and high throughput capability, the Aerospray stainer is a convenient, cost effective way to increase gram staining capacity.
CYTOPRO Cytocentrifuge Rotor
W ith the optional Cytopro rotor, the Aerospray stainer becomes a cytocentrifuge at a fraction of the cost of a stand-alone cytocentrifuge. There s no modification or fiddling involved. Simply remove the staining carousel and replace it with the Cytopro rotor. The self-contained rotor loads easily in a safety cabinet. An airtight seal controls biological hazards. The rotor and sample chambers are autoclavable. Sample chambers are competitively priced so you can economically dispose of them. THE CYTOPRO CHAMBER The chamber s unique design combines ease of use with superb cell recovery. -Perfect Alignment. The Cytopad absorption pad snaps quickly between the chamber and the frame. This guarantees that the chamber bore is always correctly aligned. No fumbling, and no cell loss due to poor alignment. -Better Flow Control. Each Cytopad features a speciallycompressed ring around the center hole. This compression controls the fluid flow and improves the repeatability of fluid absorption. -Dual Sample Port. Two ports, one in the sample well and one in the tunnel, provide great versatility, allowing you to introduce prewetting fluids and making in situ fixation easy and reliable. -Chamber Caps. You can load samples directly through the chamber caps to prevent spilling of hazardous samples. -Two Fluid Absorption Rates. The white Cytopad is for faster absorption of thick or debrisfilled suspension fluids. The tan pad is used to slow fluid absorption for improved cell recovery in non viscous fluids such as urine or CSF. EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND LOAD Assembling the Cytopro chamber is very easy. No fumbling with a spring-loaded assembly. Chambers and Cytopads fit securely together with foolproof precision. No more cell loss because of misaligned filter cards. You ll be surprised how simply chambers and slides load into the rotor. The ends of each slide are fully visible to you for accurate patient identification. The rotor bowl s shallow profile makes sample loading more convenient than with a deep rotor. Simply pipette sample fluid directly into the sample well (maximum sample size: 0.5 ml) or through vents in the chamber caps. The semi-transparent sample chamber allows visual confirmation of correct sample volume. THE CHOICE IS YOURS Cytopro delivers the versatility you need to satisfy a wide variety of sample treating requirements: -Unparalleled ease of use -Simple and flexible programming -Superior sample chamber design -Choice of two fluid absorption rates -In situ fixation -Convenient prewetting capability -Safety and reliability DUAL SAMPLE CHAMBERS. Advanced design places two samples on the same slide for increased efficiency and economy. Dual sample chambers provide the same excellent results as our single sample chambers. Finally, you have the flexibility to control the cytocentrifugation process and to set the level of economy. The choice is yours.
