THE ATHELSTONE FOOTBALL CLUB The Athelstone Football Club Affectionately known as "The Raggies", the Athelstone Football Club was established in 1904 and will therefore turn 113 years old next season. It was a group of local market gardeners who were the first to don hessian bags as their guernseys (hence the Raggies), and form a club that has been a cornerstone of sporting competitions in South Australia and a wonderful provider of opportunities for youth and their families in the North East for a very long time. The club is situated at Max Amber Sportsfield (formerly Torrens Valley Oval) on George Street, Paradise and with participator numbers still growing the club continues to also use Foxfield Oval on Maryvale Rd at Athelstone for junior football.
THE ATHELSTONE FOOTBALL CLUB The Raggies Success With 44 senior premierships under the belt, the Raggies have won a total of 12 A grade flags the last of which was in 1996 when Athelstone FC beat PHOS Camden in Division 2. Senior Teams In 2017 the Raggies will have 3 senior teams doing battle; the A s & B s are playing in Division 2 and the C s are in Division C2. There is also an Under 18 s team that plays on Sundays.
THE AFC JUNIOR PROGRAM The Juniors When it comes to our juniors, here at Athelstone Football Club we have a simple philosophy. We give each and every child/youth who would like to play Australian Rules Football for our club the opportunity to play regardless of skill level or prior experience. Everyone is welcome at our club, and no one is turned away. Through the Codes of Behaviour we have in place we endeavour to provide an environment that encourages fun, friendship, development and a safe environment for all involved. The club plays in the SANFL Juniors, and provides sporting opportunities for over 320 children aged from 6 to 16. Athelstone also runs the AFL accredited Auskick program.
THE AFC PLAYING LIST 2017 Athelstone Football Playing List 4 x Senior teams (including Under 18s) 15 x Junior teams In 2016 the club consisted of 110 registered senior players, 320 registered juniors and 75 Auskick Kids to form one of the largest playing rosters in South Australia. With past players and lifetime supporters always on hand to tell you an old tale or two, the clubs membership numbers are always strong and will be again in 2017.
SEASON 2017 The Season Ahead In 2017 the Club will continue to be coached by Magarey Medallist and former Sturt and State Captain JADE SHEEDY. There will be some great clashes at Max Amber Sportsfield and the Raggies will do battle at away matches across Adelaide as well. There will be senior football played at MASF most Saturdays over the season and if the Raggies can make the finals the action will continue. The junior season will be played over 15 weeks and again there will be games every Sunday at MASF plus matches throughout the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
SPONSORSHIP Pre season kicked off in the last week of November and there s a great vibe amongst the playing group. With the harder work starting Monday - January 13 there will be 9 months of action at Max Amber Sportsfield providing a great opportunity for branding. At training, matches, in the club and online; as a Sponsor of the Athelstone Football Club your brand will be seen by everyone who is involved with the Raggies!
The Opportunity Boundary Signage Be seen by the locals throughout the summer! Display your brand name on a Boundary Sign and have your brand seen by players, coaches & members throughout the week; you ll even catch the eye of the locals as they drive past the ground. Round 2 of Pre Season Training kicks off for the seniors in January and after nearly 3 months of intense physical work the matches begin. These signs will also provide a backdrop too hard to miss during the games, and with footy being played at Max Amber Sportsfield on Saturday and Sunday each week there will be supporters from clubs all over Adelaide watching the matches. The signage is displayed all year round so during the Summer months there is also exposure to cricket teams using the oval.
