Monday Art: Stop Motion Animation Art Course Grades: 4th-6th Mondays 4-5 pm Art Studio Instructor - Rebecca Beaird Students will learn about the timeless skill of stop motion animation. Stop motion animation is a precursor to all cartoons and digital movies where many pictures are compiled into one seamless clip. We will be doing some traditional drawing animation as well as claymation and other techniques with found objects. This high energetic and upbeat class will have your student ready for any dance floor. This award winning class has the perfect blend of the latest dance moves infused with music that this pop-hip-hop generation loves. Each student will gain professional experience through body isolation, rhythm, balance, choreography and dance moves that will wow any crowd. This class is perfect for beginner and/or intermediate dancers who want to further their love of dance or even pursue a dance career. Computer Science: STEAM Topics Grades: 3rd-6th Mondays 4-5pm & 5-6pm Idea Dock Instructors - Sim Anderson & Ryan Carnes Come learn and create with EduCode! We are teaching a series of computer science and coding lessons using Minecraft and Python on Raspberry Pi computers. EduCode is a local education company that teaches kids digital literacy and technological skills using their favorite games and industry standard computer programming languages. Your child will enjoy a series of lessons in which they learn and apply the fundamental concepts of computer science as they create their very own digital art, computer programs, and Minecraft mods. Voice Grades: 4th-6th Mondays 4pm-5pm Music Studio Instructor - Bruce Drake Students will learn to sing as soloists as well as in groups. In groups they will learn pitch, harmonizing, and blending voices. They will also gain vocal confidence and learn to present themselves as solo performers. Baton Twirling Grades: K - 6th Mondays 4pm-5pm Multi-Purpose Room Instructor - Becky Morlan Students will have fun as they participate in a unique art and sport while developing coordination, concentration, timing and self-confidence. Beginner Twirlers will be introduced to basic baton twirling skills in a high energy and positive format. All skill level and age group needs will be met through differentiated instruction. As a student progresses, more challenging material will be taught in order to expand on basic skills for each individual twirler. The group will perform in the community when opportunities are available.
Dance Pom Grades: K-6th Mondays 4pm-5pm Multi-Purpose Room Instructor - Niaya Burnley In Dance Pom, we will incorporate pom work with bodywork to make fun and flashy routines. We will focus on unity, sharpness, and clarity of the visual performance with poms in hand. A good dance pom team spends a lot of time not only working on choreography, but also working on body strength, posture, and presentation. We will spend class time learning new exercises to help us become stronger dancers and learn how to engage an audience with our facial expressions and body language, thus enhancing our performance abilities. Cooperative activities will help us become a unified team, while we keep in mind that precision and strength, not necessarily difficulty, make for a crowd pleasing show. In this course students will let their imaginations run wild while enhancing their creative thinking skills. Multiple art methods of drawing and painting will be utilized to promote divergent thinking while simultaneously learning about color theory, color mixing, and basic painting techniques. These young artists will see their original ideas turn into beautiful works of art. Starting with the fundamentals of stagecraft, we will explore proper breathing, diction, character work, and scene study. Utilizing theater games and tongue twisters, students will strengthen their imagination muscle and prepare for the language ahead. A more advanced level of theater will be offered this semester for students who have already participated in the previous session of Curtain Call Theater. It is mainly danced during festivals and at pretty much any other fiesta in Spain--even impromptu street festivals. Anywhere the music is playing you will find people dancing sevillanas. It is a very comprehensive dance incorporating most of the body--including the wrists--and with lots of twirls, stomping and clapping. Beginning Piano Grades: 4th-6th Thursdays 4pm-5pm Music Studio Instructor - Douglas Hammond The focus of the group piano class is to introduce students to the musical alphabet (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) and the corresponding solfeggio vocabulary (La, Ti, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol) along with an accelerated approach to learning basic scale patterns and fingerings. Gaining finger and hand dexterity, flexibility, and independence is emphasized throughout as these skills are essential for the aspiring pianist. Basic music notation is also taught to include the grand staff, clefs, and beginning note values (whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes). Students are encouraged to practice between class sessions and they will learn how to play one or more songs using proper technique during the course as a method of inspiring continued interest in the piano. In this enrichment course students will be given the opportunity to express themselves through dance with an emphasis on the foundation of classical ballet.
