BY GLENN MILLER Roy Hobbs Baseball Roy Hobbs teams sport all sorts of nicknames. There are names that are shared with bigleague teams such as Pirates, Red Sox, Yankees and others. And there are sponsor nicknames and others that connect to the younger days of the athletes such as Glory Days, which is playing this week in Masters. Another Masters team is the NW Indiana Dogs. Why are they called Dogs? Manager Jerry Ortiz explained that many years ago when the team started there was an THE inside pitch 'What s up dawg?' But the team went with Dogs and not Dawgs as its name. Ortiz and the Dogs approach baseball and the annual World Series trip with a sense of zest and fun. They like to joke around, Dog Jon Gold said. They make an error and they still joke around. The butt of playful jests is often 60-year-old veteran Lynn Strohl, the team s elder statesmen. We like to make fun of Lynn, Gold said. One of their shots at Strohl is telling him he s so old that when he started playing uniforms still had Roman numerals on the back. Ortiz jokes that he acquired Strohl in a trade for two cracked bats. Gold hoped to get a goodnatured gibe at his teammates through the Inside Pitch. I ve been carrying this team on my back for 15 years, Gold said within earshot of several teammates before a game at CenturyLink. It s getting old and See Dawgs, page 7 Chicago Giants shortstop makes the play vs. the TN Dirtbags.

He plans to play three weeks this year. I m going to go from being the oldest to the youngest, Strohl said. His passion for the game is shared by teammates, old and new. Ortiz said that a World Series rookie seemed like a player who might return. So far he s got a gleam in his eye, Ortiz said of the World Series newcomer. He looks like Christmas is tomorrow. 8 Broadcast The games will be live audio streamed on the internet and video-taped. The video will be turned into a podcast that will be uploaded to royhobbs.com approximately 2 hours after the games end. Several of our sponsors say they will be prepared to play those games in their establishments if players request them. We will let you know at the end of the week. Roy Hobbs will also repeat the 2-game broadcast on Saturday, Nov. 11, as well. Teams in line to participate in these games will be asked to complete some paperwork background on the team and the players so that the announcing crew will be able to give the audience background on those players in the game. The immediate goal of this project is for 2018 Roy Hobbs wants to be able to offer teams the opportunity to have one of their games broadcast from Hammond Stadium next year. Teams buying into the plan Roy Hobbs would broadcast 2 games a day Sunday through Wednesday would have their stadium game at CenturyLink. Roy Hobbs would then broadcast 2 championship games each Saturday. Over the course of the 2018 RHWS, Roy Hobbs goal is to broadcast at least 48 games. Therefore, these 4 gamers over the next two weeks is the test drive, so to speak, and Roy Hobbs opportunity to show teams what can be done in this format.
