PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A MASTER COACH SUBSEQUENT TO APPLICATION The Master Coach Board of Examiners (BOE) reviews the application. The BOE consists of 3-5 total members and will include a minimum of two home office staff and three The First Tee Master Coaches. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the SECOND FRIDAY OF DECEMBER. Approval is contingent both on the completeness and quality of the application materials, including the Network Contribution Project. If the application is approved, the Master Coach Application must complete two additional requirements by the FIRST MONDAY OF DECEMBER two calendar years following his/her application approval (approximately 24 months). 1. MASTER COACH SKILL ASSESSMENT During the Life Skills & Leadership Academy (or other pre-determined National Event), the Home Office staff and/or members of the BOE will observe The First Coach as s/he delivers a core lesson to youth participants. In order to successfully complete this aspect of the Master Coach Skill Assessment, The First Tee Coach must not only model and demonstrate mastery of the Life Skills Experience, but also mastery of the curriculum delivery which is evident in strategies and behaviors central to The First Tee Coach philosophy. Additionally, The First Tee Coach will be observed over a three to five day time-frame as she/he interacts with coaches and youth participants. As a result of this ongoing observation, The First Tee Coach will be assessed on scales representing leadership, character and The First Tee Coach philosophy. In addition to the Home Office staff and/or members of the BOE, other coaches and youth participants will score the Master Coach Applicant on this important aspect of the Master Coach Skill Assessment. 2. NETWORK CONTRIBUTION PROJECT 1 In order to successfully complete the Network Contribution Project, The First Tee Coach must (1) DESIGN, (2) IMPLEMENT, (3) COLLECT G-B- HFEEDBACK (from own chapter and at least two others), and (4) RE-IMPLEMENT a project that contributes positively to his/her chapter and makes a significant impact on The First Tee Chapter network. In order to be replicable by other chapters, the Master Coach project must include everything from A to Z that another chapter would need in order to implement without talking to The First Tee Master Coach. Additionally, this project must include a video (you tube quality and 3-10 minutes in length) as part of the project implementation. General steps to complete the Network Contribution Project: 1. Design a Network Contribution Project and submit this project may not be implemented prior to application approval; 2. Edit the project based upon feedback from the BOE during application process. Resubmit by deadline (TBD) by Email correspondence with the BOE. 1 Any project that has been completed prior to the Master Coach s application and/or used for The First Tee Master Executive is not allowable. Master Coach [2015/16 Edition] 7

Additionally provide final G-B-H feedback on the project upon completion. 4. Successfully complete a Power Point presentation and verbal explanation of the project (via web conference) to the BOE. 5. Make a presentation (in person) of the completed project at a major event (TBD) hosted by The First Tee home office. The First Tee will credit The First Tee Coach for his/her contributions where appropriate. The First Tee Coach and chapter may use the Network Contribution Project within their chapter, but not outside of chapter programs without prior written consent of The First Tee. Prior to submitting he/her Network Contribution Project, The First Tee Coach must sign (type name on signature line) the Copyright Notice understanding at the bottom of the Network Contribution Project Proposal. TRANSITION FROM THE FIRST TEE COACH TO MASTER COACH AND MAINTAINING MASTER COACH STATUS. Simultaneous to pursuing recognition as a Master Coach, The First Tee Coach must continue to earn 36 CEUs every 3-year renewal cycle. CEU requirements are based upon the most recent edition of The First Tee Coach CEU document. Once The First Tee Coach becomes recognized as The First Tee Master Coach, s/he must continue to earn 36 CEUs over a 3-year renewal period in order to maintain status as a Master Coach. Regardless of the date a Master Coach officially completes all requirements, his/her timeline will always run on the same 3-year renewal cycle that was established at the point s/he was first recognized as The First Tee Coach. THE FIRST TEE MASTER COACH BACKGROUND With the addition of The First Tee Assistant Coach and The First Tee Master Coach, The First Tee Coach concept has evolved to provide educational opportunities that are parallel to those already established for PLAYers (TARGET, Life Skills Experience and Ace). The chart below captures these parallel opportunities provided as part of The First Tee Life Skills Education. THE FIRST TEE LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION PLAYer Coach TARGET: An Introduction to The First Tee Life Skills Experience Assistant Coach: An Introduction to the Life Skills Experience and Coach Philosophy The First Tee Life Skills Experience PLAYer Par Birdie Eagle Level I Coach, The First Tee of [Chapter Name] Coach Level II Coach, The First Tee of [Chapter Name] The First Tee Coach Ace: The Advanced Level of The First Tee Life Skills Experience The First Tee Master Coach: The Advanced Level of The First Tee Coach Program Whether talking about The First Tee Life Skills Experience or The First Tee Coach Program, it is critical to understand these two progressive programs are the core pathways to PLAYer certification and coach recognition at The First Tee; whereas, the introduction and advanced levels are intended to provide additional educational opportunities for PLAYers and coaches.

OVERVIEW OF COACH EDUCATION Assistant Coach is exposed to The First Tee Life Skills Experience (WHAT we deliver) and The First Tee Coach philosophy (HOW we deliver it). This introductory, online training has been developed to address a chapter s needs to provide more trained volunteers who may positively impact the youth of The First Tee. The First Tee Coach (Levels I and II) progresses through The First Tee Coach Program which is designed to lead individuals through an in-depth, linear process of exposure and application of the life skills and coach philosophy, as well as the basics of chapter programming and operations. It is expected the majority of coaches who start Level I should complete the program within 2-3 years. The First Tee Coach is the home office recognition earned by individuals who complete all three levels of The First Tee Coach Program. The First Tee Coach status can only be maintained by fulfilling all requirements including 36 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) - during each designated, 3-year renewal cycle. The First Tee Master Coach is intended to challenge coaches to master the life skills and coach philosophy, as well as the nuances of chapter programming and operations. The First Tee Coach must meet initial time and CEU requirements, as well as participate in The First Tee Coach Advanced Training, prior to submitting an application for this advanced level. Once the Master Coach application has been approved, additional requirements must be fulfilled. SUMMARY The First Tee Master Coach is expected to be an exemplary leader and role model for coaches and youth not only at his/her chapter but across the chapter network. Additionally, given the requirements listed on the subsequent pages, The First Tee Master Coach must achieve an extraordinary level of proficiency in delivering the Life Skills Experience and establish a history of being intimately involved with The First Tee home office in program enhancement efforts such as curriculum development, coach training, research, academies and participation on committees.
