On This Day in History 1941 The U.S. entered World War II when it declared war on Japan. This came one day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. 1953 Los Angeles became the 3 rd largest city in the U.S., behind New York and Chicago. 1993 U.S. President Bill Clinton signed into law the North American Free Trade Agreement. 1998 The first female ice hockey game in Olympic history was played. Finland beat Sweden 6-0.
Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.
Chorus Chorus rehearses every Monday and Thursday after school in the Band room!
Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collected pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. A collection box will be in the Commons for your donations!
6 th /7 th Grade Boys Volleyball The Patriots will play against Tinley Central for the SWIC Championship on Saturday! Good luck!
Beginning this week and continuing through Dec. 15th, bring in your spare change to benefit the Tinley Wish Foundation. Grade level teams will compete, with the top team overall getting a free gym period! Pennies count as negative points put those in other team s bins! Silver coins and dollar bills count as positive points put those in your team s bins!

6 th /7 th Girls Basketball The Lady Patriots play Saturday morning in the SWIC tournament consolation game at Oak Lawn/Hometown Middle School! Good luck ladies!!
6 th /7 th Grade Girls Volleyball Tryouts Tryouts for 6 th and 7 th grade girls volleyball will be held from 7:30-8:30 am on Monday, Dec. 11 th and from 3:15-4:45 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 12 th. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and should be turned in to Coach Chicvara by Friday, Dec. 8 th.

Crayola ColorCycle Students and teachers will soon be collecting used markers (any brand!) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Boxes will be located in the Commons. The Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year! Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!
KSD 140 Special Olympics The Kirby 140 Special Olympics Basketball team will play Oak Lawn on Monday, Dec. 11 th at 6:30 pm right here at Grissom! They play again at PV on Thursday, Dec. 14 th at 6:30 pm. Come out and show your support for our Special Olympians!
14th Annual Remembering Cathy & Allison Toy Drive Grissom is once again collecting toys for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. Please drop off unwrapped toys in the box in the Main Office. Deadline for donations is Wednesday, Dec. 20 th.

Student Support Before and after school Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole time!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we ve saved 4,303 bottles from landfills! Let s beat last year s total!
