Introduction Thank you for looking to Rock Lake Activity Center for your Fall programming needs. We are excited to introduce our new programs and activities for your family to participate in. We have started on-line registrations through Blue Sombrero which makes the process easier and more efficient. To access our Blue Sombrero, please visit our website at www.rocklakeac.org and click the Blue Sombrero link on the home page or any of the program pages. If you have a credit, or wish to pay cash or check, just register for the class online, but do not purchase. Give the office a call and we enter payment manually. This program allows instructors and participants to have an open forum to communicate efficiently. Blue Sombrero shows the Non- Member class prices, however, will adjust to the member discount through registration. Our Blue Sombrero program is separate from the Recreation Department s Blue Sombrero account, so you will need to register a new account. If we have registered you into our system, your password will be the same as your username. We have eliminated break weeks for our Group Ex programs. We have also moved Yoga to our Standard Fitness Classes, which means, no extra fees for members to attend Yoga. DANCE Session 6: 2016-2017 Season The season consists of 3-10 week sessions. Participants must be in all 3 sessions to guarantee placement in the recital. Session 1: September 12 November 18 (No classes the week of November 21 st ) Session 2: November 28 February 17 (No classes the week of December 19 th and 28 th ) Session 3: February 20 May 5 (No classes the week of March 20 th ) Parent Observation: Session 1: Week of November 14 th Session 2: Week of February 13 th Session 3: Week of April 3 rd Dress Rehearsal: Friday, May 5 4 pm 8:30 pm Recital: Saturday, May 6 10:30am and 3 pm Important information! The Rock Lake Dance Studio is run by dance instructors, Becca Lauber, Maddie McKenna, Amelia Roeder, Sloan Hoover, and Jess Mlsna. All are experienced dancers and dance instructors. Their approach to dance is encouraging and supportive and always with the best interests of the child in mind. Your child will develop skill in ballet, tap, jazz or hip hop as they progress through the program. They will also develop poise, balance, flexibility, and self-confidence; but most importantly, a love of dance! Dance is offered Mondays thru Thursdays. o Returning students receive first consideration New students will not be accepted after January 1st without instructor s approval and may not be in able to participate in the recital Please make note that classes are anywhere from 30 75 minutes long, pricing is set for class lengths Ballet Slipper/Tap Shoe Trade: Donate your old, slightly worn shoes to the dance studio in exchange for another pair, or purchase a pair of shoes for the low cost of $3/pair. Selections and sizes are limited based on donations. There are no multiple child discounts There is no cushion for "snow days". Classes will be canceled if school is canceled / early release - 4 -

This class will introduce the dancer to the basics of ballet. Students will learn grace in movement, body posture and placement, balance and flexibility. Ballet 1 An introduction to classical ballet concepts with emphasis placed on listening, following directions, mirroring, repetition, rhythm and patterns. Emphasis on mastering 1st and 2nd position feet, demi plie, relleve, and 2 feet to 2 feet jumps. Students will be introduced to the barre. Lyrical Lyrical is a modern form of ballet mixed with a little bit of Jazz. Lyrical dances are danced to songs that make you feel something, therefore being the name lyrical since you listen to the lyrics. Intermediate 2- Ballet and Lyrical* Emphasis on flexibility and turnout as well as continuing with proper technique and body positioning will be the focus of this Ballet class. Students will also learn new turns, jumps, more complex combinations and explore the lyrical style of dance. Students will learn and perfect a Ballet AND Lyrical dance in the recital. *An additional costume will be added to the final costume payment to cover the second costume. Intermediate 2- Jazz and Tap * The first 30 minutes of this class will focus on Jazz only. More detailed steps, turns, leaps and combinations as well as a fun dance will start the year. The students will learn and perfect a Jazz dance for the recital. THEN for those students who are staying for the last 15 minutes, we will focus on more difficult rhythms and combinations, as well as slightly faster footwork. The students will learn and perfect a Tap Dance Routine for the recital *Those students for JAZZ ONLY will have a slightly reduced class fee. Beginner 2- Ballet and Tap In this class your child will start off reviewing the basics of ballet and tap utilizing review dances. Then we will start to build on these basics focusing on combinations of steps and correct step names. Students will learn and perfect a Ballet AND Tap dance routine for the recital. - 7 -

Intermediate 1 -Ballet This class will continue building on all the skills from the Beginner ballet classes. Emphasising on proper technique, body positioning, correct step names, as well as new turns and combinations. Students will learn and perfect a Ballet routine for the recital. Intermediate 1- Jazz and Tap New combinations, steps and turns will be the focus of this class. We will start the year with review dances and then learn and perfect a Jazz AND Tap routine for the recital. Advanced Ballet and Lyrical This class continues and expands the work from the intermediate level. Special attention will be given to foot and ankle strengthening, flexibility, proper foot/leg positioning, and turnout. These students will continue to develop with the lyrical style of dance and learn and perfect a Ballet AND Lyrical routine in the recital. Advanced Jazz* This class will focus on more detailed and difficult steps, leaps combinations and routines. This class is for the dancer with some jazz dance experience and/or a high school student on the dance team that wants some additional experiences. Students will learn and perfect TWO Jazz Routines in the recital. *An additional costume fee will be added to the final costume payment for the second costume. Modern Dance Modern is an expressive style of dancing started in the early 20 th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance such as speech and film. It is a dance form that allows the students to learn how to dance, but in a form that is less structured than ballet. Jazz/ Hip Hop* This class will focus on Jazz and Hip Hop separately and students will perform two routines during the recital. *An additional costume fee will be added to the final costume payment for the second costume. Hip Hop This class will teach the basics of hip hop, such as popping and locking, tutting, and floor work. The focus will be on having clean movements while the students have fun and are able to express themselves. Dress Code Ballet/Lyrical: Pink leather ballet shoes and any color or style of leotard and/or tights, skirts are optional, but should be no longer than thigh length. Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt with black leather ballet shoes. Tap: Black tap shoes and comfortable, non-restrictive clothing. Boys should wear any color nonbaggy shorts and shirt. - 8 -

Jazz: Black Jazz shoes and Jazz pants and/or leggings with a form fitted shirt. Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts. Jazz/Lyrical combined class must have tan jazz shoes. NO BAGGY SHORTS, NO JEANS! IF DRESS CODE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT DAYS CLASS. Improv Learn how to make bold choices, think on your feet and work well within an ensemble. This course will help gain confidences so that each choice is motivated by the character instead of being held back by fear of looking silly. We will lay lots of improve games that will strengthen the performer s ability to stay in the moment of the scene and react. The session will end with a showcase performance Date/Time/Location TBA Performance 1 This class is perfect for beginner performers. During the 6 weeks we will learn and perform a play. The students will learn characterization, movement, vocalization, and imagination. The session will end with a showcase performance.
