Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition Judge Appointment Guidelines General Comments 1. A Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition appointment is not a pre requisite to obtaining a Regional Singles/Pairs Competition appointment. 2. It is understood that judges with a Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition appointment will be actively working toward obtaining a Bronze Singles/Pairs Test appointment, if they have not obtained one already. 3. Judges with Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition appointments are qualified to judge all levels in singles and pairs at nonqualifying competitions. 4. A minority of a judging panel at a nonqualifying competition event can consist of judges with only a Nonqualifying Competition appointment. Criteria to Obtain Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition Appointment Guidelines to Obtain Nonqualifying Singles/Pairs Competition Appointment Requires favorable endorsement of judging peers and RVC Must be a current or former singles or pairs competitor at the novice, junior or senior level at the U.S. Figure Skating or a current or former singles or pairs competitor at the U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating. A candidate may not take the Nonqualifying Competition appointment test unless he/she has met the above criteria. To apply for this appointment, the candidate must complete one of the following options: 1. & Test: a. Attend a judges school approved by the Judges Committee for that purpose and b. Pass a proficiency test with a minimum passing grade of 80%. The test will cover all aspects of competition judging, including but not limited to ethics, element identification, 6.0 rules and IJS rules. OR 2. Trial Judging & Test: a. Trial judge a minimum of six segments at a competition approved by the Judges Committee for trial judging. i. Each segment must consist of at least eight skaters in singles or six teams in pairs. ii. Must include at least one event judged under the 6.0 system and at least one event judged under IJS. iii. Must include both short program and free skate events. b. If the JET determines that the candidate is eligible to take the test, a proficiency test will thereafter be sent to the candidate. That test must be passed with a minimum passing grade of 80%.
