Jimmy Reed goes the distance, Cards knock off Miracle, 4-2 Palm Beach starter Jimmy Reed went nine innings in a rare Florida State League complete game in Monday s 4-2 win over the Miracle. Reed gave up just two runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back two-out hits from Logan Wade and Marcus Knecht. The Cardinals lefty surrendered just seven hits with one walk and struck out four. Miracle starter Brett Lee gave up four runs on 11 hits in his first start of the season. Lee was on the disabled list with a bicep injury and was activated before the game. The Cardinals got one run in the third and three in the fifth, the final two on a two-out single from Carson Kelly. Extra extra... innings, all... the... time Over the first 17 games of the season, the Miracle required extra innings in seven games; 41 percent of the schedule. Fort Myers has just a 2-5 record when needing more than nine innings and have played back-to-back extra inning games three seperate times including after a 17 inning game on Friday, April 24. In the 17 inning game, the Miracle and St. Lucie Mets combined to use 13 pitchers, threw 33.2 innings, recorded 33 strikeouts and totaled 119 at-bats, 132 plate appearances. The game marked the second time the Miracle have played a 17 inning game in the last 10 months. On July 18, 2014, the Miracle went 17 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark against the Daytona Cubs; losing on a walk-off grand slam. Miracle offense struggling in the first two weeks of 2015 Over the first 17 games of the season, the Miracle team batting average is a Florida State League worst.209. The offense is averaging only 3.22 runs per game, above only the Lakeland Flying Tigers (3.17). The situational hitting has been a problem for the bats. As a team, the Miracle are hitting just.199 with runners on,.181 with runners in scoring position and.159 with runners in scoring position with two outs. The Miracle have left an FSL-leading 152 men on base and are first in the league in strikeouts (160). With five men hitting under the Mendoza line (.200), the lineup features just one hitter with a.260 average or better. Niko Goodrum has just one error at third base and Engelb Vielma has committed two errors, and sports a.981 fielding percentage in 104 total chances.
