Quebec Kendo Open 2017 Organized by Quebec Kendo Kai Dear Senseis and Kendokas, We are pleased to invite you to participate in the next Quebec Kendo Open, which will take place on June 10, 2017. The last tournament held in Quebec City in 2004 was a great experience for all the participants. This year, we hope to hold a friendly competition bringing together the kendo dojos and clubs across Canada and from abroad who all share the same passion for kendo. Especially for the participants living outside the province, this tournament is a good opportunity to visit the beautiful Quebec City! Date and Time Saturday, June 10, 2017 Registration and shinai weighing: 8:00 AM Opening Ceremony: 9:00 AM Location PEPS, Laval University, 2300 Rue de la Terrasse, Québec (Québec), G1V 0A6 http://www.peps.ulaval.ca/nous-joindre/ The parking is free for the weekend. Cost Registration fee with lunch included: 50$ * * A free lunch will be given to the participants of 5th Dan and higher rank who will support the tournament as shinpan. However, if these participants want to compete in the tournament, they must pay the 50$ registration fee. Registration The deadline for the registration and the payment is Friday, May 12, 2017. The competitors must be 16 years and older the day of the tournament and be an active member of the Canadian Kendo Federation or the International Kendo Federation. The registration form (Excel file) must be completed with the dojo/club name, the representative s name with his e-mail and the participants information mentioning who will do shinpan only. There are two choices for the lunch: regular or vegetarian, please specify in the registration form. The completed registration form must be sent to the following e-mail: quebeckendoopen@gmail.com. The completed waivers by all competitors must be given by the dojo representative to the registration desk the day of the tournament.
Payment The payment will be done through Paypal. After receiving your registration form, we will send you a confirmation message with a link to Paypal where you can connect and pay with your Paypal account. Categories Group A : Mudansha (Non-degree or 1 st kyu) Group B : Yudansha (1 st dan and higher) Group W : Women s Category (All ranks)* *We would like to specify that all women must participate in the women s category. Teams Category Each club/dojo can have a maximum of 2 teams. A team has 5 members. Clubs/Dojos with 1 to 7 registered competitors will be allowed to have one team and those with 8 or more will be allowed with two teams. The spare players from one club/dojo may join other teams. Shinai Regulation The competitors shinai (3 maximum) must be weighed the day of the tournament and marked with the official seal of the tournament. Only the shinais approved by the tournament can be used in the individual and team matches. For men, the shinai has a size of 39 with a minimum weight of 510g. For women, the shinai has a size of 38 or 39 with a minimum weight of 420g or 440g respectively.

Parking is free Friday, June 9, 2017. Gradings (Sunday, June 11, 2017) Gradings will be held on (1 st Kyu to 4 th Dan) Sunday June 11, 2017 at the PEPS on Laval University s campus.
