SOS DAN BUOY INSTRUCTION MANUAL DESIGNED BY SOS MARINE, AUSTRALIA CERTIFIED TO ELEMENTS OF ISO 12042 INTERNATIONAL PATENT PCT/AU2010/000397 WHEN THE SECONDS COUNT DON T BE SECOND BEST Y.A. APPROVED Model SOS-6375 2011 Australian Marine Industry Eport Awards MOST INNOVATIVE EXPORTED PRODUCT SOS Marine 2011 WINNER B E S T SOS DAN BUOY N E W P R O D U C T 2011 WINNER SOS DAN BUOY P R O D U C T E X C E L L E N C E MARINE READY TO GO MAN OVERBOARD RESCUE The SOS Dan Buoy is patented man overboard rescue equipment ready for instant deployment. The ultra fast and reliable self-righting properties ensure that just when time matters most, the SOS Dan Buoy is always ready. It increases vital visibility and buoyancy for the person overboard. The SOS Dan Buoy system is compact, easy to use and very visible. It all folds away in an easily stowed carry bag. SOS Marine is an Australian company improving equipment capabilities and operational readiness for both waterfront professionals and the marine leisure industry. SOS Marine s products represent a new approach in design to the methods currently used. SOS is one of the few worldwide companies to purpose design and manufacture personal marine safety equipment. We supply safety equipment to 12 defence forces worldwide.

1 SOS Marine s Dan Buoy is a compact, self-contained device, specifically designed to make rescue and recovery a simpler operation. There is no need to set or activate the SOS Dan Buoy just throw it into the water, towards the person overboard. Throw the SOS Dan Buoy into the water and within seconds of immersion it inflates, and stands 2.0 metres above the waterline, highly visible up to 1,700 metres. (Figures 1 & 2) SOS Dan buoy has webbing loops, allowing the person to put their arms around the marker to help support them when fatigued. This gives etra support and security while awaiting rescue. (Figure 3) SOS MARINE S Dan Buoy is a portable rescue device, that is easy to handle in all geographic locations. This compact safety device employs the same mechanism as an inflatable lifejacket; it can be reused by replacing just one cylinder and activation cartridge. 1 2 3

It must not be subjected to etremes of temperature above + 60 c or below - 30 c. Do not epose the marker to bright sunlight for etended periods when not in use. It should not be stored in compressed or cramped conditions which may cause damage or deterioration. It is crucial that your Dan Buoy is folded correctly at all times when not in use in order to protect the internal components. The SOS Dan Buoy is easy and simple to use just throw it to the person overboard.

3 DEFLATING SOS MARINE DAN BUOY AFTER USE 1. Reverse the valve cap on top of the oral inflation tube and hold it in the valve. 2. Squeeze the bladder to epel the air. 3. When as much gas as possible has been epelled, re-inflate the bladder by mouth. This reduces the concentration of any remaining CO 2. 4. Squeeze the bladder a second time. The last of the gas /air miture can then be squeezed out through the inflation tube without causing discomfort. 5. The bladder should now be completely deflated so that it will fold as it was before use. 6. Replace the valve cap in its normal position. Dust cap in deflate position Dust cap in stowed position SOS DAN BUOY DIFFERENCE There is also a service reminder inside the flap. Service Window This provides the added benefit of detecting, at a glance, that the SOS Dan Buoy is set to go. RE-PACKING THE SOS MARINE DAN BUOY Please follow these instructions and diagrams Step 1 Step 2 Has a replacement SOLAS light Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Please visit www.danbuoy.com if you require further technical information Your SOS Dan Buoy is ready for use.

RE-PACKING THE SEA ANCHOR FOR YOUR SOS MARINE DAN BUOY Please follow these instructions and diagrams 4 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 RE-PACKING THE SOS MARINE DAN BUOY 1. Folding: before re-packing make sure that the inflation valve on the marker is centred inside the inspection window on the valise and both green sensing elements are showing. 3. Fold and place the sea anchor on top of the marker making sure that the anchor is attached to the marker. 4. Fold the marker weight over on top of the sea anchor making sure that the anchor loop on the other side of the marker weight is protruding outside of the valise. 5. Lay the inflatable tube marker on top of the weight and then, from the bottom up, fold in a pleat configuration the inflatable tube, making sure that all has been neatly folded including the pennant. 6. Fold the two Velcro flaps sides over the marker and secure tightly together and then fold the small flap through the handle to the back, over the side flaps. 7. 5 RE-ARM SOS MARINE DAN BUOY Automatic pro-sensor firing mechanism (UML) Black washer Un-screw anti-clockwise and remove gas cylinder. Whilst the gas cylinder is removed, eamine the firing head and rubber gas seal and make sure when testing, that the manual inflation lanyard returns freely and that it is in the closed position. Test its operation by pressing on the cutter pin to see if it travels freely, the unit sensor will show green when testing. Unscrew anti-clockwise the Automatic inflator head cartridge. If fired replace it with a new cartridge. When replacing, screw right up ensuring there is no gap between the cartridge and the inflator head and then do up hand-tight. Manually replace the firing arm into the unit. The arm will click into place. This ensures that the firing lever is captured in the closed position. Fit a CO² cylinder ensuring it has not been fired. Screw up tight into the firing head. It acts as a marker, clearly identifying the location of a person overboard. 6 Rescue Helicopter pilots find deployment of the SOS Dan Buoy an effective and accurate rescue system: when the SOS Dan Buoy is dropped from a helicopter, it indicates wind and current directions. In difficult and dangerous rescue operations, deployment of several SOS Dan Buoys, dropped from a helicopter, assist in the operational timeline. DESIGN FEATURES Ready-to-go man overboard equipment. SOS Dan Buoy is packed into a portable valise-compact, ready for use. Tested to elements of ISO 12402. Self-contained disposable CO2 inflation system the same mechanism as an inflatable lifejacket. A large drogue (120cm circumference 60cm long) to reduce downwind drift. Designed along life raft specifications. The SOS Dan Buoy marker allows the person overboard to place their arms through the webbing loops, giving an etra sense of security and stability, especially when fatigued, until help arrives. SOS Marine has made every effort to augment visibility. The fluorescent yellow, 2.5 metre streaming ribbon waves back and forth in a breeze, allowing it to be seen up to 1700 metres. Fitted with an automatic SOLAS light for night rescues and SOLAS grade high-visibility, retro-reflective tape. Easy maintenance and service. Lightweight (weighs 4 kilos) and compact for transport and stowing on all vessels. Service Window: provides the added benefit of detecting, at a glance, that the SOS Dan Buoy is set to go. There is also a service reminder inside the flap. Reusable and repackable only requires a 33gram replacement cylinder and an activation cartridge. The SOS Dan Buoy has the etra benefit of removing the drogue and attaching an anchor, so it can then be used as a temporary marker for wrecks, channels, and dive or crash sites, at sea. SOS Dan Buoy is smaller than a tackle bo; etremely beneficial for safety in small boats, like the fisherman s tinny.
