Insulatin fr all tubing. The switch t perate the system is nt included, nr is the wiring lm fr the car. A 12-15v supply, via a switch (preferably steering wheel munted) and fuse will need t be prvided in the car. The crrect AS cnnectr, with heat-shrink bt, is prvided fr the installatin. Only perate the system with a bttle in place and with all f the hses cnnected (including a helmet utlet hse). Failure t d s can cause pump seal failure due t internal pressure build up frm the clsed system. Fr hygiene reasns, always have a bttle cnnected and in place at all times, whether full r empty. 2
Installatin The bttle hlder shuld be munted n a bulkhead inside the cckpit (nrmally the seat back bulkhead) and as clse t vertical as pssible. Make sure the delivery tube is nt kinked and that the bttle can be remved easily. D nt ver tighten any cable ties securing any f the hses as this can cause them t be crushed and can damage the hse insulatin. Lcate the bttle s that the driver r the driver assistant can replace it during pit stps. Munt the bttle husing as clse as pssible t the driver t reduce the length f pipe where pssible. This makes priming the system easier and reduces any heat transfer int the delivery hse. When reducing the length f the delivery hse, the nn-return valve shuld be kept as clse as pssible t the driver and nte the directin f flw n the valve (indicated by an arrw). Velcr can be used n the delivery tube s that a driver getting ut f the car discnnects frm the system placing the helmet tube n the dash r shulder strap ready fr the next driver. Pwer The Deutsch AS Micr cnnectr used n the pump husing is part n : Deutsch ASL-006-05-PB-HE. The wiring lm n the car shuld be terminated with the crrespnding in-line cnnectr Deutsch ASL-606-05-SB-HE (supplied). Pwer supply: Pin 1 = 12-15v DC Pin 2 = 0v Grund. Pins 3, 4 and 5 are unused. A push-t-make (nn-latching) switch (nt supplied) shuld be used n the steering wheel t mmentarily activate the drinks system when required by the driver. The current at 12.0v is apprximately 350mA. 3
Drivers Crash Helmets Custmers shuld satisfy themselves that the integrity f the helmet has nt been jepardised and that n regulatins have been breached by the fitting f the drink hse t the crash helmet. Prgressive Mtrsprt will nt be held respnsible fr any damage caused by the mdificatin t the crash helmet r be held respnsible fr any injury t the driver as a result f any mdificatin t the crash helmet r by use f the EDS system under any circumstance. Drilling hles in the crash helmet is nt required and nt allwed by mst gverning regulatins. Mst helmets d nt need t be taken apart at all t fit the tube as described belw. Tls Required Tapered scribe r punch. External circlip pliers. Cable tie cutters. Installatin Make sure the tapered tl is cvered with heat shrink s the paint is nt damaged by the metal tl. Use the tapered scribe t create a 5mm hle in the mesh. The mesh will defrm and des nt need t be cut. Once the hle in the mesh is enlarged, use the external circlip pliers t pen the mesh t the crrect size. Be careful nt t damage the paintwrk. The vent already has a hle thrugh the fam padding. Use the tapered tl t puncture the chin lining s that the tube can be pushed thrugh. The tapered scribe might be required t pen ut the slt in the fam lining t allw the hse t fit easily. Push the hse thrugh the hle in the mesh and thrugh the hle in the lining. Make sure 30mm f hse is expsed inside the helmet and then put the small cable tie arund the hse. Dn t crush the tube by ver tightening the cable tie. Cut the excess cable tie tail and make sure it is cut flush and square. It shuld be easy t push the hse further int the helmet if required. The driver will need t adjust the psitin f the cable tie r cut the hse t suit his requirement. The image t the right shws a similar installatin n a Bell crash helmet. 4
Priming The System The EDS range f drink systems use a medical grade psitive displacement pump which are self priming as they can pump bth air and fluid. The system has been tested and sterilised prir t delivery. It is hwever recmmended that the system is flushed thrugh with clean water prir t each days use. Due t the Nn-Return-Valves used in the system, it may nt be pssible t bleed the system by sucking n the delivery tube. The valve pp-ff pressure may nt be reached. The system can be flushing by fllwing the prcedure detailed belw: Fill the bttle with mineral water and place in the hlder. Make sure all the hse fittings are cnnected prperly. Take the syringe and make sure it is fully clsed and empty. Cnnect it in place f the crash helmet t the end f the delivery tube. With the pump switched OFF, extend the syringe s that it sucks water thrugh the system frm the bttle. Repeat a secnd time if a lng delivery tube is used. Once there are n bubbles r air-lcks in the system, the syringe can be remved. Place an empty cntainer ver the end f the helmet tube (syringe remved) and press the buttn n the steering wheel s that the pump is activated. Water shuld nw be pumped thrugh by the system and is ready t use. Alternatively the pump can just be perated as nrmal t pump water arund the system. But make sure a helmet cnnectr is in place n the delivery hse therwise the system will be clsed and will get damaged. Only perate the system with a bttle in place and with all f the hses cnnected (including a helmet utlet hse). Failure t d s can cause pump seal failure due t internal pressure build up frm the clsed system. Sterilising The System The system has been sterilised and tested prir t delivery. It is hwever recmmended that the system be sterilised after being installed in the car. Fllw the steps belw: Fill ne bttle with warm water and add a sterilising agent. Let stand fr 10 minutes and pump ¾ f the bttle thrugh the system. Rinse this bttle ut and fill with mineral water and pump thrugh the system again (d nt cmpletely empty the bttle). Repeat if necessary. Sterilise and empty the system befre string fr any lng perid f time and again prir t use. Sterilise the system befre and after every event. The bttles shuld als be rinsed ut befre string and kept with the lids OFF. Emptying The System After each event the system shuld be emptied f all water fr hygiene reasns. The bttles shuld be rinsed ut befre string and kept with the lids ff. The female end f the syringe can be cnnected t the crash helmet hses t remve used water. T empty the pump and delivery hse: Place an empty bttle in t the hlder. Cnnect the male end f the syringe t the female end f the delivery hse and pull thrugh all unused water until the system is empty. Or with an empty bttle in the hlder and with a helmet cnnectr in place and with an empty bttle held at the pen end f the helmet hse, perate the system fr 30 secnds r until all fluid had been pumped ut f the system. Fr hygiene reasns, always have a bttle cnnected and in place at all times, whether full r empty. 5
Changing The Bttles During a pit stp, the bttle can be changed by pressing the red buttn which activates the cnnectr inside the husing. Once pressed, the empty bttle can be pulled ut and replaced. Make sure that the cnnectr clicks int the release psitin befre the bttle is remved. Make sure that the new bttle clicks int place when changed. The bttle must be placed carefully int the cnnectr therwise the metal tab can be clsed prematurely by the bttle. Pressing the red buttn again t pen the cnnectr will reset the lcking mechanism. Changing the bttles can be made easier by applying a small amunt f Vaseline r Fd Grade Silicne t the O-rings n the male cnnectrs. This can als be applied t the helmet cnnectrs if necessary. D nt get any n the bre f the cnnectrs as they may becme blcked r cntaminate the drink. Bttle Maintenance After each days use and when taken ut f the car, the cnditin f the bttles and tps shuld be checked. Bttles and tps that have been drpped and damaged shuld nt be used again as this can cause further damage t the system. Washer Bttle (Blue) The O-ring (1), Dry Break Valve (2), Bttle Seal (3) and Duck Bill (4) shuld be checked regularly t make sure that all are wrking crrectly and nt damaged. If any f these parts are damaged, they must nt be used as it can cause leakage. Replace where necessary. The bttles and tps shuld be kept clean and inspected regularly t ensure that they remain in a crrect wrking and hygienic cnditin. Bttles shuld never be stred with fluid left inside.
