CLUB NEWS Welcome Welcome to the Mercedes-Benz Club s new website. What you can see on this News page and on the other public pages of the site is only a taster for what the Club has to offer. Here s a brief summary of the Club s recent and forthcoming activities and its main benefits. Classic Motor Show November 10-12 The Club stand at the NEC... The Club s stand at the Classic Motor Show attracted many Members, who were able to buy reduced price tickets for this huge annual event at the NEC. Not only that, they could relax with free hot drinks and biscuits in the Members Café around 1,200 took advantage of this. The cars on display ranged from a 1956 300SL Gullwing through representatives from each decade up to the 1990s. The Gullwing and ex-george Harrison 500SEL AMG were put to good use in raising money for charity in exchange for photo opportunities a total of nearly 800 was collected for the RNLI and Huntingtons Disease Association. The Club Shop was on hand as was a strong Technical Team who were kept busy all weekend answering Members queries. 151 new Members joined the Club at this event....it included the very popular Members Café.

The ex-george Harrison 500SEL AMG. Already planned for 2018... London Classic Car Show February 15-18 The Club stand at the London Classic Car Show in 2017. T he Mercedes-Benz Club will once again have a stand at this growing event held in London s Docklands. The display will feature four cars, all designed by Paul Bracq, and Club Members can take advantage of reduced price tickets.
Techno-Classica, Essen, Germany March 22-25 Techno-Classica features thousands of classics.....and some of the latest cars. In 2018 the Mercedes-Benz Club will once again be making its pilgrimage to the largest indoor classic car show in the world. Members enjoy luxury coach travel, comfortable hotel accommodation and the company of like-minded enthusiasts. There are restorers stands, club displays and halls full of trade stands. Spanish Tour May 15-29 One of the paradors Members will be staying in. The Club s international rally in 2018 will be on the peaceful and picturesque roads of the Pyrenees. The programme will include visits to San Sebastian and Barcelona and there will be luxury accommodation and great food and wine throughout. Join the Club now to book your place on this rally. This will be a chance to enjoy the quiet and breathtaking rural roads of Spain......and some of the sights of its cities.
This R107 300SL was the overall winner in 2017. National Concours, Milton Keynes June 16 The Club s premier concours competition will again be held at Mercedes-Benz UK s headquarters in 2018. Located in Milton Keynes, this venue provides hard-standing for all the cars entered plus a wide range of other facilities that make for a great day out. The competitive classes include some for Enthusiasts ie everyday cars owned by people who might not have entered a concours before and there are displays of Mercedes latest models plus the chance to take test drives. Mercedes-Benz always display their latest models at this event and offer Club Members test drives. Some of the cars in the Enthusiasts Class in 2017.
W124 Day, Leyburn, North Yorkshire Sunday September 16 After three years in the West Midlands, the Club s 2018 W124 event is moving to North Yorkshire. It will see a full range of these young-timer classics from the 1980s and 90s displayed at Tennants Auction House, where the facilities include a café and restaurant. Highlights of 2017 Car of the day at the 2017 W124 Day was this E36 AMG coupé. Donington Historic Festival April 28-30 Some of the cars racing at Donington in 2017. Members were again able to buy discounted tickets for this exciting event and watched the racing from the Club s in-field display.
SLK Day, British Motor Museum May 21 In 2017 the SLK Day was at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire, with all its usual activities, including plenty of input from the Club s Technical Team three of whom are SLK owners. The Club s SLK Day always attracts a huge turn-out of these popular sports cars. The programme includes technical advice on looking after these models. AMG 50th anniversary celebration and SEC Day June 4 This event, at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey, was something not to be missed for anyone with an interest in AMG or the iconic S-Class coupés of the 1980s and 90s. AMG, the special tuning wing of Mercedes-Benz, is 50 years old this year and to celebrate the Club organised a gathering of a very special collection of AMG-powered cars. On the same day the SEC Day took place and included in the cars displayed was Nigel Mansell s 560SEC and Ayrton Senna s 500SEC. Full use was made of all the facilities at Mercedes- Benz World, including the handling circuit on which Club Members enjoyed parade laps and AMG driving experiences. National Weekend and SL Rally, Oxford and Bicester June 23-25 SLs and aircraft at Flywheel. The historic delights of Oxford and the nearby Cotswold countryside provided the settings for the first part of this weekend. On the Sunday it moved to Bicester Heritage for the Flywheel event, with its unique combination of cars and aircraft. All models of Mercedes-Benz were welcome and the programme included a road run, a gala dinner and a Show and Shine competition.
Silverstone Classic July 28-30 In 2016 Silverstone saw parade laps for CLKs, SLKs and W140 S-Classes. The Club always has a major display right at the heart of the Silverstone Classic weekend. In 2017 Members could again take advantage of reduced price tickets to see all the racing action and other entertainment at this massive event and there were parade laps to celebrate important model anniversaries. S-Class Fest 2017, Donington Racing Car Museum July 30 There was a wide range of S-Classes at this event...
Once again the S-Class Fest provided a chance to see virtually every type of S-Class Mercedes-Benz s top of the range...held at the Donington Racing Car Museum. and there were technical experts on hand to solve problems and provide valuations. In addition the Donington museum Southern Ireland Rally September 16-23 A chance to discover the delights of rural Ireland. offered the opportunity to see the largest collection of racing cars in the world plus World War Two vehicles and memorabilia. T he Mercedes-Benz Club has a significant presence in Ireland and this event was an opportunity for Members to enjoy the quiet, picturesque and sometimes challenging roads on the south coast with the benefit of expert local knowledge.
Coupé Day, RAF Museum Cosford Sunday September 17 All models of coupé were featured at this event, including W123......W124......CLK......and CL. T his was a celebration of all things coupé. As with all Club events it was open to all Members to attend but it featured the elegant, primarily two-door, fixed-head body style, including Ponton, W111, C107 SLC, W114/5, W123, W124, W126, W140, C215/6, CLK, C- Class, E-Class, S-Class etc, however the new CLS four-door coupés were also welcomed. The venue was selected for its central location and fascinating displays.
New Honorary President The Mercedes-Benz Club s new Honorary President is Rob Halloway, Mercedes-Benz UK s Director of Marketing for cars. Rob has been a Member for many years and in his previous jobs with MBUK s public relations department has done much to support the Club. As its President he has pledged to take an active role in its future. The Club is totally independent of the Daimler and Mercedes-Benz companies but enjoys a good relationship with them, both in the UK and Stuttgart. Rob Halloway. Not just national events The Club s Regional Officers run events across the country throughout the year. A full list of Club events can be found on this site if you click on the Events button. You will find that, as well as the national events, there are over 100 regional shows, visits, drives and social occasions across the UK and the whole of Ireland plus 20 regular pub meetings. The newest region is Milan in Italy. To get more details you need to join the Club, which you can also do via this site or by calling 0845 6032660. If you do not yet own the car you would like it is just as important to join because many excellent Members cars are advertised only in the monthly Gazette and you can get help in finding a good one from the Club s Model Register Captains, Technical Advisers and from the forums on the Members pages of this website.
The January Club Gazette has a whole new look with a redesigned cover and an extra eight pages in each issue meaning at least 92 pages every month. In this Gazette they include full reports of the Club s recent Southern Ireland Rally and its stand at the Classic Motor Show, plus more details of events for 2018. There are also driving impressions of a C43 AMG and the story of The Gazette s new look. Club Members with their cars in Reims. The latest Club Gazette some Club Members visit to Laon and the famous Reims Grand Prix circuit. In Technical corner there is the story of a repair to a Pagoda SL s gearchange linkage and how its engine was brought back to full health. This section also includes the free-to-members Spares register with lots of parts for sale. The Club s Southern Ireland Rally featured fabulous cars in fabulous settings. In addition there are updates from the Club and company, some fascinating letters from Members plus the regular columns on F1, from the Club Archive and by the Club s Honorary President. This Gazette also has news of the Club s Annual General Meeting, including the Chairman s and Finance Director s reports. Pagoda SL gear linkage problem......and engine tune-up On-line technical information Since November 2009 Club Members have had free access to the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC). This enables you to identify the part number for any component from all models since 1945 it is usually only made available to garages, at a cost. Instructions on how to use this facility were given in the December Mercedes-Benz Club Gazette and are included in the Members pages of this website. Now the Mercedes-Benz Workshop Information System (WIS) has been made available to Club Members. This gives full service and repair instructions, including wiring diagrams, for all models from the 1990s onwards.

Archive developments The Brooklands Control Tower. The Club s Archive, which contains an amazing collection of brochures, technical literature, price lists and photos, as well as the Club s history, is now well established in offices in the old Control Tower at Brooklands. The work of digitising the Archive contents is well in hand and a website presenting it is now on-line. Club Membership brings you access to all this fascinating material.
