What to bring Beachwear and surf wear. A couple sets of sandals, casual wear for dinner, one - two evening outfits, a couple daytime outfits or sundresses. Headlamp. The weather is cooler in the mountains if you are doing excursions. Therefore a long sleeve T-Shirt, light jacket and long pants are recommended for going on mountain excursions. Closed toe shoes appropriate for hiking are also necessary. Make sure to bring any medicine, pharmaceuticals or feminine products you may need for the duration of your trip. House We will be staying at a high end rental home, not a hotel or resort. Please pack accordingly. Don t forget to put any liquids you travel with into ziplock bags and under the plane before you fly. Shower towels are provided at the house, please bring a beach towel. Any damages and excessive dirtiness will be the responsibility of the guest. The house is located in the Atami gated community, which is 1 hour from the airport and 1 hour from San Salvador. www.villadelolas.com is the link to the location. The house is on the oceanfront with a pool overlooking the beach. There are also community salt-water pools along the bluff near the house. Items to consider/to bring: Mosquito s are minimal except during rainy season but we still recommend you bring mosquito repellent or other mosquito prevention such as a light long sleeve shirt and pants. Internet and safes: There will be wireless Internet at the house. There is also an ipod 4 doc for playing and a TV with a DVD player. The house is located in a gated community and in general items of value are safe in the house. However, the guests can bring laptops or ipads at their own risk. Passports and additional money can be stored in a safe. Rooms The House has a total of 5 ½ bedrooms and a couch area. There are throw beds and fold outs that can be arranged. Rooms will be shared based on double occupancy. If you are coming as a solo traveler expect to share a room. If you desire a private room this must be arranged before the trip commences. Keep in mind this is a group bonding retreat, part of that is close proximity in a beach front mansion. If you have any special needs or requests for your sleeping arrangements please let us know before the trip. Food Please communicate food preferences or allergies before the trip begins. During times when we dine out, you will have a $6 breakfast, $12 lunch or $18 dinner budget. Otherwise, all meals will be catered at the villa. A hot breakfast will be prepared after the morning surf session or prior to the day s excursion. Fresh Fruit, smoothies, lunch fixings will be pre-prepared at the house and can be put together by individuals at their personal convenience. Dinners will be cooked daily at the house except for a sunset dinner at a local restaurant. El Salvador is known for pupusa s (masa
filed with meat, cheese and vegetables). The house staff will prepare fresh pupusa s for dinner 1-2 nights depending on the length of the trip. They are served with gourmet sides and toppings. Planned excursions and other programs are included in both the surf luxury and beach luxury package. Excursions, massages, and yoga are prepaid. If a guest elects not to partake in the activity a refund will not be provided unless negotiated in advance of the trip. Guests on the other packages are excluded entirely. Exceptions may be made if space allows and guides are compensated for cost of the excursion/activity. Surf Please pack your own beach towel, sun protection (rashguard, surf hat, sunscreen). Reef and rocks may be present at some of the surf breaks. Most people do not elect to wear booties, but if guests prefer to be safe, foot protection they are recommended. Pre arrival conditioning program is emailed four weeks before the trip begins and is designed to overwork surfing muscles so recovery time between sessions is faster. Instruction is included in each surf package. Each surfer is paired with aonewavesurf guide, at least one hour a day, max two-surfers in a session. The surf trip leader is primarily focused on a growth plan and management for each surfer in the group. Instruction is scheduled according to wave conditions and surfer needs each day. There are photo/film analysis, surf theory and workshops scheduled during nonsurf periods. There is a small surf break right in front of the house on a private beach, great for skill building. Past that you will be shuttled to the best wave each session. The house is very central, there are 7 different breaks 5-10 minutes away. Seasonally the waves in El Salvador are semi-consistent. November to February usually runs 2-4 feet with a week or two of larger waves. This is the ideal season for beginners. March-May is generally 3-5 feet with a few weeks of larger surf. It is a good time for both beginners and intermediates. June-September the waves can be very large and are more weather dependent as it is rainy season. This retreat is a - surf at your own risk - event. As we cannot predict weather and wave conditions, we will work with the group to ensure new optional activities are available in the event the surf is not cooperating. Although we do our best to get you to the right waves for your ability, there may be a period of the trip that the waves becomes too sizable or the surf guide deems out of the surfer s skill ability. In such a case, the surfer will be notified and must comply. We have a quiver of 14 boards. They are primarily long boards. Also available are three (3) shorts boards, two (3) funboards and an Elephant Gun. If you bring your own board a discount is offered. Otherwise, every surfer will be matched to a board for his/her skill and surf practice. The boards are used. However, they are high end boards and never severely damaged. We will cover the costs of minor dings and damage up to $30. Any damage past that will be the responsibility of the surfer as well as any damage
caused to another surfer s board in the event of a collision. In the event of a broken board, the surfer must pay a replacement fee equal to the value of the board & $100 shipping cost. Many travel insurance companies will cover the cost of broken or stolen equipment, including surfboards. However, the surfer must reimburse the OneWaveSurf prior to the end of the trip. Each guest using a surfboard will be charged a damage deposit of $250, refundable at the end of the trip if there is no damage to the board. Scheduling On the retreat, there is a daily activity schedule when we do things as a large group but often when we break up into smaller strategic units. Generally each day activities are scheduled for sunrise: morning, afternoon, sunset, and we always get together for dinner in the evening. Some people on the retreat may be late nighties and some are not. After 9pm those burning the night oil will hang out on the top deck lounge so the noise does not disturb the sleeping guests. There will also be a night to go out with the guides for music and a party. Optional. We must keep to schedule because of booking service providers, tour guides, massage therapists, chefs, yoga teachers, dinner reservations and surf conditions Booking 1/3 trip deposit is due 5 weeks before the trip and is non-refundable and nontransferable. Balance is due 1-week before the trip. Money There is a $10 entry fee to El Salvador when you arrive in country which is not included in the cost. It is best to have exact change for the entry fee. Cash is recommended for additional costs. There will be ATMs available. However, international transaction fees apply. It is recommended to bring some smaller bills as getting change for larger bills can be more difficult. Credit card transactions are limited. Just in case You must have overseas medical insurance for the duration of your trip. In the event of the need of medical assistance one of the bilingual guides will go with you to the pharmacy, clinic or hospital. There is a clinic 20 minutes by car & major western hospitals in San Salvador one hour away. Check with your insurance company about overseas coverage and/or purchase travel insurance for the duration of the trip.
It is highly recommended to obtain trip insurance which will cover any theft or damages incurred during the trip or flights. However, any of your property or money, or property of Onewavesurf which you use is your sole responsibility in the event of theft or damages.
