STREAKS, PLURAL: The Rockets have won nine straight. Houston had a 14- game winning streak earlier this season. Last season, the Rockets had a nine-game winning streak and a 10-game winning streak. The only other time Houston recorded at least two winning streaks of 9+ games in a single season in franchise history was in 1992-93 (15 and 11). WRIGHT ON: On 2/12, Houston signed free agent Brandan Wright who was waived by Memphis on 2/10. Wright was originally the eighth overall pick by Charlotte in the 2007 NBA Draft and entered the season and had career averages of 7.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 1.00 bpg in 16.4 mpg entering the season. He is shooting 60.7% from the floor for his career, which would rank second among active players if he qualified. Over the past five seasons from 2012-13 through 2016-17, Wright was the only player in the league to have averaged at least 7.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 1.00 bpg while playing fewer than 19.0 mpg. Ranks first in the NBA in field goal percentage (.656), tied for sixth in rebounding (11.1 rpg) and fifth in blocks (1.84 bpg). Had 23 points and a career-high 25 rebounds in 29 minutes of play vs. Denver on 2/9 according to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marked the fewest minutes played by a player who recorded at least 20 points and 25 boards since playing time was recorded in the early 1950 s. RUN IT BACK: On 2/1, the NBA announced the Eric Gordon will defend his title at the 2018 JBL Three-Point Contest held during All-Star Weekend. Last year, Gordon became the first player to win the competition in franchise history. Since joining the Rockets in 2016-17, Gordon has the fourth-most 3FGM (400) of any player in the league. Dating back to the start of 2013-14, he is one of six players averaging at least 2.5 3FGM while shooting 38.0% or better from behind-the-arc. HEY NOW YOU RE AN HUH: On 1/23, the NBA announced reserves for the All-Star Game and James Harden, who was voted a starter, remained the Rockets only All-Star. Houston had the league s second-highest winning percentage (.768) through games played on 2/13 and is 32-6 in games that Chris Paul has played, including 16-2 when he scores 20+ points. Paul has missed a total of 18 games due to injury this season, but is averaging 19.2 points, 8.3 assists, a career-high 5.7 rebounds, and 1.82 steals. He joins James Harden, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook as the only players averaging at least 19.0 points, 8.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season. In the seven games Harden missed from 1/3-1/15, Paul averaged 22.4 points, 9.7 assists and 7.1 rebounds. He is also averaging a career-high 2.7 3FGM on 39.6% shooting this season. Paul is a 9-time All-Star and is averaging the most assists (13.2) in NBA All-Star history. He is 22 assists shy of surpassing Magic Johnson for the most career assists in the All-Star Game. CONGRATS COACHES: On 1/26, the NBA announced that Rockets head coach Mike D Antoni and his staff (Associate Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik and Assistant Coaches Roy Rogers and Brett Gunning) will represent the Western Conference at 2018 NBA All-Star Game by nature of locking in the second-best record in the conference through games played on 2/4. Steve Kerr and Golden State s staff were ineligible, having coached last year s All- Star Game. It is D Antoni s second stint coaching the All-Star Game, having represented the Western Conference as head coach of Phoenix in 2007. He joins Rudy Tomjanovich (1997) as the only coaches to have represented the Rockets in the All-Star Game. D Antoni coached his 1,000th NBA game vs. Golden State on 1/4. He became the 30th coach in NBA history to accomplish that feat and the fifth active coach, joining Gregg Popovich, Doc Rivers, Rick Carlisle, and Nate McMillan. THE 700 CLUB: Houston passed 700 3-pointers made for the season in Game #45. Prior to Mike D Antoni s first full season as head coach of Phoenix in 2004-05, only three teams had more than 700 3FGM in a single season. D Antoni s Suns posted the league s three highest single season totals for 3FGM from 2004-05 through 2006-07 (796, 837, 785). In 2016-17, 25 of the 30 teams recorded at least 700 3FGM. Houston has hit 879 3FGM in the 56 games this season, breaking its own NBA record of 809 3FGM through the first 56 games of 2016-17. No other team has recorded more than 737 3FGM through the first 56 games of a season. TEXAS TRIANGLE: On 1/26 at New Orleans, the Rockets picked up their first loss of the season when Clint Capela, James Harden, and Chris Paul played together (current record: 27-1). Houston is outscoring opponents by an average of 14.1 points in those 28 games (+394 total). The Rockets are averaging 118.0 points (3,305 total) on 48.3% shooting (1,142-2,366 FGs) in those 28 games while also averaging 16.5 3FGM on 39.4% shooting (462-1,172 3FGs). Houston has made more free throws (559; 729 FTA) than the opposition has attempted (525) in those 28 games. BOLD STRATEGY COTTON: The Rockets have taken 50.5% of their shots from 3-point range this season, up from 46.2% in 2016-17. FIVE-O: James Harden scored 51 points in consecutive games vs. the L.A. Lakers on 12/20 and vs. the L.A. Clippers on 10/22. He was the first player in franchise history to score 50+ points in consecutive games and the first player to do so since Kobe Bryant reeled off four straight 50-point games from 3/16-3/23/07. He is averaging a league-high 31.4 ppg this season; Moses Malone (31.1 ppg in 1981-82) is the only player to have averaged at least 30.0 ppg in a single season. HARDEN, JAMES HARDEN: James Harden leads the NBA in scoring (31.4 ppg) and is second in assists (9.0 apg). He averaged 34.9 ppg and 10.1 apg in November. According to ESPN Stats & Information, he fell one point shy of joining Oscar Robertson and Nate Tiny Archibald as the only players to have averaged at least 35.0 ppg and 10.0 in a single month with a minimum of 10 games played. Harden has scored 20+ points in 47 of his 49 games played, including each of the first 35 games of the season. Dating back to 1963-64, he became the third player to score at least 20 points in each of the first 35 games of a season (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar first 46 games in 1970-71; Wilt Chamberlain all 80 games in 1963-64). Harden also surpassed Moses Malone s franchise record of scoring 20+ points in 29 consecutive games in a single season (Malone: 1/16-3/18/82).

ROAD THRASH: The Rockets won eight straight road games from 11/1-12/9, including seven in a row by double-digits from 11/1-12/7. That streak of winning seven straight road games by double-digits tied for the longest in NBA history (New York in 1969-70 and L.A. Lakers in 1971-72). Houston also won six straight road games by 15+ points from 11/1-12/3, marking the longest streak in NBA history. Only three other teams in league history had a streak winning five straight road games by 15+ points and each went onto win the championship: New York in 1969-70, Detroit in 2003-04; Miami in 2011-12). SCHEDULE NOTES: Here are some noteworthy items from the Rockets 2017-18 regular season schedule: Seven of the Rockets first 10 games to start the regular season were on the road from 11/5-12/22, the Rockets played 15 of 21 games at home, including seven straight at Toyota Center from 12/11-12/22 the last time the Rockets played seven straight home games was in March of 2013. From Christmas Day through 1/15, eight of the Rockets 11 games were on the road Houston played on Christmas for the 10th time in franchise history. Following a run of five of seven games at home from 1/18-1/30, the Rockets will play 15 of 22 on the road from 2/1-3/20 that includes both of Houston s season-long four-game road trips (Feb. 1-7 and March 6-11). The Rockets will play eight of nine games at home from 3/22-4/7 before finishing the regular season with back-to-back road games against the L.A. Lakers and Sacramento Kings. Houston will play 14 sets of back-to-back games this season the Rockets only had six sets of back-to-back from October through January, but eight over the final three months of the season, including four in March Houston had 10 sets of back-to-back games last December and January, but just four over the final three months. OWNERSHIP CHANGE: On 10/6, the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the Houston Rockets from Leslie Alexander to Tilman J. Fertitta. I could not be happier, Fertitta said. To own the Rockets in my hometown of Houston is a dream come true. I promise to continue to make this city proud of the Rockets and to do what we can to bring home a championship. Alexander assumed ownership of the Rockets on 6/30/93. Over his 24-season span as owner, Houston won two championships and had the second-most winning seasons of any team in the league as well as the fifth-highest winning percentage (.569). TANGO AND CASH: The duo of James Harden and Chris Paul is one of the most decorated backcourts in NBA history. Harden was named to his third All-NBA First Team in 2016-17, while Paul has been named All-NBA First Team four times, with the last coming in 2013-14 (he was Second Team in both 2014-15 and 2015-16). In NBA history, there have only been three other times two guards played together who both already had at least three All-NBA First Team selections: Bob Cousy and Bill Sharman with Boston from 1958-59 through 1960-61: Cousy and Sharman were teammates from 1951-52 through 1960-61, but Sharman did not pick up his third All-NBA First Team selection until 1957-58... as teammates, Cousy and Sharman won four championships. Bob Cousy and Oscar Robertson with Cincinnati in 1969-70: Cousy was coaching the Royals and came out of a six-year retirement to appear in seven games, averaging 4.9 mpg. Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash with L.A. Lakers in 2012-13 and 2013-14: Nash was 38 by the time he joined the Lakers and his last All-NBA First Team selection was in 2006-07, with the last time he was named to any All-NBA Team being 2009-10; he also only appeared in 15 games in 2013-14 (his final NBA season) Mike D Antoni was head coach of the Lakers for the final 72 games in 2012-13 and for the entire 2013-14 season. UNCHARTED TERRITORY: James Harden led the NBA with 11.2 assists per game last season while Chris Paul has led the league in that category four times, with the last coming in 2014-15. In NBA history, there have only been four other times a team featured multiple players (at least one game played) who had already led the league in apg; none of those pairings saw both players average more than 22.0 mpg: Bob Cousy and Andy Phillip with Boston in 1956-57 and 1957-58: Phillip led the NBA in apg in each of the league s first three seasons from 1949-50 through 1951-52 before Cousy rattled off eight straight seasons doing so from 1952-53 through 1959-60 Phillip joined Cousy and the Celtics for the final two seasons of his career, but only averaged 22.0 mpg in 1956-57 and 16.6 mpg in 1957-58.
