www.act2pinehurst.net President: Sue Griggs Treasurer: Fred Nuenighoff Past President: Elly Moses Past Past President: President: Elly Elly Moses #A9F5D0"cmbe2012 s June 2015 Vice-President: Betty Mangum Secretary: Vacant This spring has just been fabulous, the flowers have never been prettier, and my golf game is improving at last. Your Act 2 Executive Board is in full swing with lots of plans for the upcoming months. Twenty-eight of us met for Dining Out together on May 12 at the new German Gasthof Restaurant in Southern Pines thanks to Eleanor Chajkowski and Elly Moses. Lyra Rittger has arranged for us to once again enjoy the lovely gardens of John and Susan Pfisterer for Thirsty Thursday on May 28. On June 14, we will meet at the Pinehurst Country Club for Sunday Brunch thanks to Nancy Nielsen. The book for June s Book Club is Me Before You reports Susan Scheck and Lunch Bunch will dine at Four Seasons on Broad Street on June 10 reports Ann Torok. While most of our Bridge groups continue to play thanks to Bob Nielsen and Joe Gregory, Pat Lambie, and Sheila Henderson, the Wednesday Biweekly Ladies Bridge Group is taking a break for the summer. The only down side is we still need a secretary. So far executive board members Eleanor Chajkowski and Judy McCaffrey have been taking notes in addition to their other duties. Although we thank them for their efforts, it is unfair to keep asking them to perform additional duties. I am confident that one of you will volunteer for the position soon. Sue Griggs, President

On Monday, June the 22 nd at 12:30 the book club will meet at the home of Carole Williams, 240 Oakmont Circle, Pinehurst, 295-6922. Discussion Leader: Joan Frost Refreshments: Ann Geraghty and Susie Roeder June reading is Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, a New York Times Bestseller (available in paperback) Me Before You is a beautiful, humorous, emotional and direct portrayal of the daily physical and physiological struggles of Will, a quadriplegic. The main character and caregiver, Lou, is easy to like and humorous as she takes the reader on her journey of self-discovery. The novel is compelling, offering many moments to laugh out loud and cry silently as the reader is immersed in the daily emotions of the two primary characters. Every twist and turn felt honest and not exploitative as the author took me on a journey of love and discovery. July reading is The Shoemaker s Wife by Adriana Trigiani. The beloved New York Times bestselling author returns with the most epic and ambitious novel of her career a breathtaking multi-generational love story that spans two continents, two World Wars, and the quest of two starcrossed lovers to find each other again. The Shoemaker's Wife is replete with the all the page-turning adventure, sumptuous detail, and heartstopping romance that has made Adriana Trigiani, one of the reigning queens of women s fiction (USA Today). Fans of Trigiani s sweeping family dramas like Big Stone Gap and Lucia, Lucia will love her latest masterpiece, a book Kathryn Stockett, author of The Help, calls totally new and completely wonderful: a rich, sweeping epic which tells the story of the women and men who built America dream by dream. There will be no book club meeting in August. Please call Susan Newsome for any questions 295-0051. BRIDGE Men s Marathon Bridge This group is now chaired by Bob Nielsen with help from Joe Gregory. They currently have 8 teams but if you are interested let them know and they will be more than happy to keep you informed of when the next marathon will start. For more information please contact them at bobnnancy@ieee.org or 255-0172 or bet-joe@webtv.net or 295-2013.

Ladies Bimonthly Bridge After cancelling two scheduled games in the past month since we couldn t get 4 players, the Board has voted to put the Bimonthly Bridge on hold for the time being. We will reevaluate in September to see if schedules have cleared so we can get at least 8 players for a fun game of party bridge. In the meantime have a great summer and may the Bridge Gods smile on your cards. Judy McCaffrey mrsmccaffrey@nc.rr.com Dining Out FOOD AND FRIENDSHIP On Tuesday, May 12 th, 28 members of Act2 met at the German Gasthof in Southern Pines for German food and beer. Everyone had a great time as witnessed by this picture, the other pictures in our slide show and the rave reviews. If you have other suggestions for Dining Out activities please let Eleanor Chajkowski or Elly Moses know. Lunch Bunch PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE On Wednesday June 10, Act 2 members who enjoy eating lunch out will meet at Four Seasons on Broad. This is in the place where Max s was a few years ago- 311 SE Broad St., Southern Pines. They are in a small shopping plaza, where there is a laundromat. It is nearly a block away from Gulley s Garden Center, on the same side of the street. The restaurant has been remodeled and it has a pleasant and casual décor. Their lunch menu is interesting. The favorite includes turkey. Bacon, tomato pesto mayo, avocado and spinach on toasted sunflower bread at $9.79. (When I ate there with friends, people enjoyed this sandwich.) My husband had the Philly for $8.29- it was on a large hoagie roll. With the good side salad that was a large serving. I ordered half the roast beef (on sour dough) with a cup of soup- as the sandwich was the daily special; my lunch was only $8. (Delicious. I don t think I could have eaten a whole sandwich, as it was so large.) Other sandwiches, which come with fruit, chips, fries or a salad, are the shrimp tortilla or open faced roast beef at $8.59. There is also chicken breast with tomato pesto mayo, spinach, mushroom, onion and cheese on toasted sunflower bread at $9.49. They offer five different burgers- starting at $7.99 (with cheese, L, T and onion). A Burger with bacon, two cheeses and chipotle mayo is $8.29. Also, the Portobello mushroom as a burger is $8.29. Their salads sound good too. Chicken breast over greens is $9.79; shrimp or salmon over the green salad is $13. (Same price for Caesar salad.) The club salad is $8.50. The spinach, strawberry and pecan salad is $8.

They serve breakfast and lunch until two (and have a different menu in the evening.) Their breakfast menu also sounds delicious. They have pancakes (starting $2.50) and waffles (starting at $4.95) and specialties like French Choice (Toast) at $5.25, with strawberries and cream is $6.75. They offer seven choices of omelets; such as steak at $7.95, lobster with asparagus at $12, ham and cheese at $6.75, ranchero (sliced chicken breast) at $7.25, spinach and mushroom at $7.25. They offer 3 kinds of Eggs Benedict- lobster is $13, shrimp or veggie at $8.29. So plan to join us, on Wednesday, June10. We need reservations by 6/7. Plan to contact Freida at 235-9284 or email her at freidasr@embarqmail.com. See you at Four Seasons on Broad in June. Thirsty Thursday Meet old and new friends at Thirsty Thursday, June 25th, at the home of John and Cindy Agatone, 95 Sakonnet Trail, Pinehurst #6. From 6.00 to 8.00 pm, enjoy delicious appetizers and friendly conversation while enjoying your favorite drink in this welcoming setting. Please bring an appetizer to serve 8-10, your beverage of choice (no red beverages please), and $1.00 per person for set-ups and mixes. To sign up call Lyra Rittger at 215-9623 or email jon.rittger@gmail.com Sunday Social Mark your calendars for the next Sunday Social on June 14 th at noon at the Fairway Breakfast in the Pinehurst Members Club.
