52nd Annual Wakulla Area Swine Show February 16-17, 2018 Wakulla County Livestock Pavilion P.O. Box 141 Crawfordville, FL 32326 OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Exhibitors age 5-21 are eligible to show. Age on February 25, 2017 determines the age for the show. 2. Entries are open to the world. Barrows and gilts are eligible. NO BOARS! Swine will NOT be shown by breeds or sex at this show. Barrows, gilts, purebreds and crosses show together. 3. There is a $50 entry fee (or the option to sell $50 in donation tickets) for the first pig entered in the show. For each additional pig the fee will be $25 for each entry. There is no limit to the number of entries per exhibitor. 4. All swine must be blood tested PRV and Brucellosis negative within 30 days of the show and have an official health certificate. Contact Mike Duncan for more information. 5. Each entry must be ear tagged for purposes of breaking classes. Pigs must be ear tagged prior to weigh in. 6. All hog entries will be subject to a screening committee. 7. Hog entries will be divided into up to ten (10) workable classes of weight to evenly distribute hogs and classes in an effort to avoid too many or too few hogs in each class. No more than 8 pigs in each class. 8. Only hogs placing 1 st and 2 nd in their class shall be eligible to be declared Champion and Reserve Champion. 9. Grand and Reserve Champion hogs as well as class winners will receive a belt buckle. Also, the following premiums will be awarded: Grand Champion $750.00 Reserve Champion $500.00 Class Winners $50.00
10. Showmanship awards are given in five (5) classes. The five(5) classes are: Class 1: 16-21 yrs. old Class 2: 13-15 yrs. old Class 3: 11 & 12 yrs. old Class 4: 9 & 10 yrs. old Class 5: 5-8 yrs. old Showmanship will be judged first during the show. Classes may be adjusted according to age and number of participants. Please note: classes may be split due to the number of participants. 11. For Showmanship, an exhibitor must show their own hog. A $50.00 prize along with a belt buckle will be given to the winner of each of the five showmanship classes. 12. Each exhibitor must furnish their own feed, utensils, and care for animals entered. 13. Pens are available, but exhibitors are free to pen on their trailer. Please denote on the entry form if you intend to pen on the trailer or utilize a pen in the barn. 14. All hogs may be washed in designated areas only, not in the pens. 15. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to keep the show facilities clean during the show. 16. THE SHOW MANAGEMENT ASKS THAT EXHIBITORS ASSIST IN THE REMOVAL OF BEDDING FROM THE PEN AT THE END OF THE SHOW. NO STRAW IS TO BE USED AS BEDDING. 17. If an exhibitor s ear tagged hog dies, then the exhibitor can replace that hog within seven (7) days with a hog of equal weight. The hog s death must be an act of God (not willful neglect) and must be verified by a Youth Fair Officer. 18. The Wakulla County Youth Fair Association assumes no liability whatsoever. 19. The use of alcohol and /or tobacco products (including smokeless) by exhibitors is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught using these products on the premises during any part of the show will be disqualified and forfeit premiums.
20. Dress code dark colored pants (jeans are o.k., but NO holes) and a dress shirt, tucked in, and closed-toe shoes or boots only. Belts are encouraged. Dress code should be adhered to during the awards ceremony as well as the show. 21. Exhibitors that are residents of Wakulla County are also eligible for the following traditional WCYFA awards: a. The Marjorie Winter Spirit Award will be presented to the exhibitor who has demonstrated outstanding cooperativeness, attitude, and work habits. A trophy and $50.00 will be given to the winner. b. The Swine Show Herdsman Award will be presented to a participant who 1.) Displays support for fellow competitors; 2.)Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of the pens, lanes and the arena; and 3.) Condition, grooming, showing of hog. The winner will receive a prize and $50.00. c. A Wakulla County Youth Fair Association Award for Excellence is presented to the exhibitor who has demonstrated overall achievement and performance in the swine project as evidenced in their participation in all aspects of the swine show. A record book must be completed in order to be eligible. A trophy and $100.00 will be given to the winner. 22. Adult Showmanship Jackpot Class. A $25.00 entry fee will be collected from all adult (22 years and older) exhibitors. An 80% jackpot prize will be awarded to the 1 st place winner of the adult showmanship class. A hog of any registered exhibitor may be used by the adult in the showmanship class. The adult may have raised a hog for this class but all rules for the youth division hog entries will apply to the adult entry. Please note a health certificate for all entries is required. 23. We strongly recommend the keeping of a record book or a personal journal by exhibitors. Prizes will be provided. For more information please contact PJ Duncan. Cash prizes per age division will be awarded in the amounts of $25, $20 and $15 for first to third place winners. SELLING OF HOG 1. Each exhibitor shall have the following options : Option I - Pre-sell your hog. Exhibitor sells hog and collects money from buyer. Please provide the buyer s name and contact information, along with which processor will be picking up the hog after the show. $325.00 is our recommended price. Securing this
sponsor in advance to offset costs of participation is available. Contact PJ Duncan for more details. Option II Take your hog home to show another day. 2. Liability in case of death or injury to an animal remains with the exhibitor until sold. SWINE JUDGING CONTEST 1. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m., the evening prior to the Swine Show, at the Livestock Pavilion in Crawfordville. Registration will begin at 6:15 p.m. 2. The Contest will be open to ANYONE 5-21 yrs. old. 3. There can be an unlimited number of teams. Also, individual participants are allowed. 4. A team will consist of up to four (4) members. 5. The Judging Contest will consist of three divisions: Junior (5-10 year olds), Intermediate (11-15 year olds), and Senior (16-21 year olds). (Age is the age at time of judging contest) 6. The classes to be judged will be selected from the show entries. The classes may be breeding gilts or market swine. 7. The WCYFA will provide trophies to the highest scoring individuals and teams in each division.
