Gas THERMISTOR TYPE VORTEX FOWMETER for GAS MEASUREMENT DETAFOW Type F Standard and Gas Purge Types MODE: VF series GENERA SPECIFICATION GS.No. GENERA This flowmeter is a kind of vortex flowmeters, which makes use of the regular and periodic characteristics of Karman vortex street. A thermistor sensor picks up changes in flow velocity that come with vortex shedding in the manner - changes in thermistor temperature changes in resistance value a train of pulses proportional to the flow velocity. In the gas purge type, changes in fluid velocity that come with vortex shedding are replaced by changes in fluid velocity of a purge gas (clean gas) introduced from an external source. Thanks to this arrangement, the thermistor sensor constantly remains in contact with clean, room temperature purge gas, permitting precise flow measurement of gases containing dust and mist, high or low temperature gases, or others previously thought difficult to be measured. Wafer type Converter FEATURES 1. The absence of mechanical moving parts and components subject to abrasion ensures long life and continuous operation with no loss of accuracy with time. 2. By measuring actual flowrate, the measurement is insensitive to changes in fluid temperature, pressure and other physical properties. 3. Provides pulse output proportional to the flowrate to simplify totalization. 4. Small pressure loss saves energy. 5. Replaceable sensor facilitates maintenance and servicing without the need of interrupting the gas flow. 6. The converter separated from the sensor body may be located anywhere for maximum ease of maintenance irrespective of piping conditions. 7. Gas purge type is primarily intended for measuring gases containing dust and mist, or high or low temperature gases. How to Determine Minimum Rate Example 1 A 200mm (8 ) size meter is to be used for air having a pressure of 0.74MPa [gauge] at 20. Find the minimum flow rate. [Solution] Finding the minimum flow rate for nominal size 200mm (8 ) in Table A corresponding to 0.74MPa [gauge] air in Table B, we obtain: where accuracy is ±1% of reading: 94.5m 3 /h, where accuracy is ±1% of full scale: 51m 3 /h. Example 2 A 250mm (10 ) size meter is to be used for city gas having a pressure of 0.5MPa [gauge] at 20 with an accuracy of ±1% of reading. Find the minimum flow rate. [Solution] Finding the minimum flow rate for nominal size 250mm (10 ) in Table A corresponding to 0.305MPa [gauge] and 0.577MPa [gauge] of city gas in Table B are 191m 3 /h and 161m 3 /h, respectively. Hence, at 0.5MPa [gauge] we obtain from the rule of proportion: 0.577 0.5 Qmin= 161 + (191 161) 170m 3 /h 0.577 0.305 Example 3 A 200mm (8 ) size meter is to be used for butane gas having a pressure of 0.301MPa [gauge] at 80 C with an accuracy of 1% of reading. Find the minimum flow rate. [Solution] Although the minimum flow rate in Table A corresponding to 0.301MPa [gauge] is 94.5m 3 /h, the minimum flow rate should increase by the amount of decrease in specific weight due to elevated temperature (80 ) as follows: 0.101325 + 0.30 273.15 Sp. weight of butane at 80 = 2.703 =8.3kg/m 3 0.101325 273.15 + 80 The minimum flow rates for the nominal size 200mm (8") corresponding to specific weights 7kg/m 3 and 10kg/m 3 in Table A are 107m 3 /h and 94.5m 3 /h, respectively. Hence, the minimum flow rate of butane at 80 (sp. weight 8.3kg/m 3 ) can be obtained from the rule of proportion: 10 8.3 Qmin= 94.5 + (107 94.5) 102m 3 /h 10 7 3

DETAFOW Type F INSTAATION CONDITIONS 1. Typical Piping Instructions It is required that the flow pattern of the fluid flowing in and out of a vortex flowmeter be as uniform as possible for accurate metering performance. Therefore, proper flow straightening measures have to be applied when installing a vortex flowmeter. The standard piping instructions are shown in the following table. (1) Use an OVA flow straightener or provide a specified straight pipe (ISO-5167 compliant). No. Piping Arrangement Straight Pipe ength () Remark 1 OVA's - Straightener Honey Vane Straightener 8D 12D Refer to P11 Refer to GS/GCF001 Applicable to Nominal size 25mm or above 2 Reducer 15D Min. A concentric reducer is installed at the upstream of a meter. 23D Min. An elbow is installed at the upstream of a meter. 3 Elbow 25D Min. Two elbows are installed at the upstream of a meter. 40D Min. Two elbows are vertically installed at the upstream of a meter. 4 Fully open gate valve Fully Open 15D Min. A full-open gate valve is installed at the upstream of a meter. 5 Partially open gate valve Partially Open 50D Min. A partially open gate valve, sharp orifice or something that markedly disturbs the flow pattern is upstream of meter. NOTES: 1: Upstream and downstream pipes adjacent to the flowmeter should be of the same internal diameter (ID) as the flowmeter. (The exclusive flow straightener, Honey Vane, and downstream short pipe have the same ID as the flowmeter.) The table below shows the standard ID of the flowmeter. Confirm the delivery specification in case ID is non-standard. meter standard ID Nominal size under 400mm 400mm or more ID reference Sch40 Sch20 2: A short pipe section, 5D or longer shall be provided downstream of the meter. 3: For pressure detection, provide the probe downstream of the flowmeter (see the right figure). To avoid disturbances in the flow, temperature detection should be made downstream of the flowmeter and, at the same time, upstream of the control valve. FOW 2 to 7D from the meter Min. 2D from flowmeter Pressure detection point D: Nominal size Temperature detection point Min. 1D from pressure detection point 2. Pressure Pulsation In case the flowmeter is installed in the line where instruments that can generate pressure pulsation, such as roots blower or compressor is present, performance of the flowmeter can be affected by flow pulsation. Allowable pulsation pressure is calculated from the following equation: N< 22ρV 2 (Pa) where, N: Pulsation pressure (Pa) ρ: Density (kg/m 3 ) V: Min. Velocity (m/s) Even at shutdown, pressure pulsation in the process fluid can produce a false output. If pressure pulsation is excessive, take the following measures: 1 ocate the source of flow pulsation downstream of the flowmeter. 2 Install a pulsation attenuator. 3 At shutdown of the flow, shut off valves upstream and downstream of the flowmeter. 9

DETAFOW Type F Installation of Honey Vane S 1 ocate the Honey Vane S upstream of the flowmeter. 2 Provide a short pipe (8D or longer) between Honey Vane S and flowmeter. 3 Regarding the bolts and nuts used for connecting JPI flange, adopt unified screw threads.
