November 11, 2017 Dear League Player, CONGRATULATIONS to you and your teammates on being your USTA Tri-Level Local League Champion and advancing to the USTA Mid-Atlantic Tri-Level Section Championships. For some this is the next step on the road to becoming a BNP Paribas Tri-Level National Champion. This year the Section Championship is being held Friday Monday, January 12 15, 2018 in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the Virginia Beach Tennis & Country Club. Tri-Level has become extremely popular this year and due to record growth we have added additional facilities, James River Country Club and Folkes Stevens Tennis Center, for Saturday and Sunday play for a limited number of matches. This packet contains all the information you and your team will need to make the necessary preparations for the Section Championships. Please review the entire packet carefully and distribute the information accordingly to your team players. This packet will also be listed on the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section website at https://tinyurl.com/ustamastri. All team captains must complete the online registration form. NO teams may advance without enough players to fill all courts for every individual match. Registration is open and will close December 21, 2017. Information that you will need handy includes: Team Number, Region/Area and Names of Players Participating. Click here to access the online registration form. Welcome/Introductions CAPTAIN S MEETING AGENDA USTA Mid-Atlantic Tri-Level League Section Championships Team Photos Photos will be taken of Champion and Finalist teams. If other teams would like a team photo please sign up for a time-slot at the tournament desk. Court Location & Schedule Court Rules and 2017 Section Regulations Team Line-Up Sheets Completed scorecards must be turned into the Tournament Desk by the team captain at the playing location no later than 30 minutes prior to when the match is scheduled to start. All team members on the line-up card must be on-site when you turn in the line-up card. A match could start as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, so it is very important that your team is present and ready to play when the captain turns in the team line-up card. All players must be prepared to present photo identification to the tournament desk staff prior to going on the court. We will be doing random ID checks throughout the tournament. Tournament Rules Please review the enclosed tournament rules. Please keep in mind: - When you are assigned a court please ask your opponent what position they are playing. Make sure you are playing the right team and position. - When each individual match is completed all players from that line should report the scores and return the balls to the tournament desk. - When the team match is completed the captain from each team must go to the Tournament Desk to confirm scores and SIGN the scorecard. - The warm-up rule will be strictly enforced so we can ensure matches go on as scheduled. - All tiebreakers will utilize the Coman Rotation including the 10-point match tiebreaker in lieu of the third set. Awards - Awards will be handed out as play ends after completion of each division s matches. Additional awards may be purchased at the team s expense. Sportsmanship Award Teams will be asked to nominate one deserving player from each team they compete against for each match throughout the tournament for the Sportsmanship Award. Those players who receive code violations from a Tournament Official are not eligible. The recipient will be determined based on player nominations and tournament staff review. Other Information/Questions Only the Sectional Champions of the Tri-Level 18&Over men s and women s teams at the 3.5/4.0/4.5 level will advance to the BNP Paribas event. Only one team at each age group and level from each area will advance to Sectional Championships. Therefore, if an area has 2 identical leagues, those league winners must play a match against each other to determine which one team advances. Unfortunately, this is necessary due to court constraints. Match play must be in order of strength no player may play above a player with a higher rating. Defaults do not have to be from the bottom up if players are not available for a particular level. Please make sure you have enough players attending the event who will be available to play all matches, and that they are at the correct rating level to field all 3 positions. Otherwise, you must request a Waiver through the Section Office to attend if you have less than 6 players, or don t have players with the correct rating levels. There is no playing up at Sectionals.
IMPORTANT TOURNAMENT RULES OF PLAY 1. Match Line-Ups will be included in your captain s packet at registration and must be turned in to the Tournament Desk no less than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the match. Failure to do so will result in an automatic $50.00 cash fine for each such occurrence, which must be paid before each offending team may play. 2. Penalties for lateness apply, up to and including forfeiture will be observed throughout the tournament. The Tournament Desk clock, at the match site, is the official timepiece. This tournament uses followed by scheduling. By rule the Tournament Desk has the right to call matches up to 30 minutes before their scheduled start time, and will so if courts are available. 3. Once submitted line-ups cannot be changed without the approval of the Tournament Director. 4. A warm-up period not to exceed 5 minutes (including practice serves) shall be observed. 5. SCORING FORMAT: Due to court and time constraints, all matches, with the exception of single elimination play (i.e. semi-finals and/or finals) shall be best of two tiebreak sets, with no-ad scoring. In the event of split sets, a match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set. The Coman Tiebreak shall be used. Please Note: The Tournament Director/Referee reserve the right to alter the order of play or to implement alternative scoring systems at any time if necessary in their judgment to complete the tournament within the allotted time. 6. At the conclusion of each individual match, all players must return to the Tournament Desk to report scores and return the balls. Captains or their designees are required to sign the official scorecard at the conclusion of each team match. All reported scored are deemed final fifteen minutes after the conclusion of the last individual match. No changes will be accepted after that time. 7. A Referee will be on hand at all times to enforce proper conduct and observance of rules. 8. Teams departing prior to the completion of all their scheduled matches without the written permission of the Tournament Director may be disqualified from League play for the following year. 9. YOU MUST BRING A FULL TEAM TO THIS CHAMPIONSHIP. Teams unable to field enough players to compete in all lines will not be eligible to participate and the next team in line will be asked to advance. Waivers to this rule must be requested to the Section Office one week prior to attending. 10. If you choose to compete on more than one team, at a different level, no consideration will be given to scheduling. 11. If needed, the USTA tiebreaking procedures will be used to determine champions (2.03H). The 2015 tiebreaking procedures apply as follows: Individual Matches Won, Head-to-Head, Sets Lost, Games Lost, a Method to be Determined by the Championship Committee. The winner of the third set shall be credited with a set won and a game won (2.03C) and the loser of the third set shall be credited with a set lost and a game lost (2.03C). USTA MEMBERSHIP All team members must have current USTA memberships through the tournament or players will be required to renew their membership prior to their first match.
