Keep Yourself Hydrated FROM THE LSFSC PRESIDENT By Rock Rotten SASS # 90073 We are surely in the dog days of summer. Fortunately, it has been relatively cool and we ve gotten a fair share of rain. We ve still got a ways to go, so remember to dress cool and stay hydrated in all your outdoor activities. It seems like there has been a major shoot every time I turn around. They sure have been fun! If you didn t make Christmas in July in Abilene, you sure missed a good time. The weather was not unbearably hot, the stages were fun, the food was excellent and I sure enjoyed shooting with the locals. There was even a special guest show up who somehow managed to leave Texas Slim speechless it was none other than my good friend Urkel Slim (Earl K.). Check out the video on You Tube. Search on Urkel Slim if the link doesn t work. It was an unexpected surprise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr VweaEjebo Editor s Note: I am not sure of the link will work in PDF format, but I am including it anyway. You might consider a cut and paste into your web browser. FROM The CVV President By Billy Bob Evans SASS# 53658 If you have not heard by now showdown will be our normal 4th weekend in October. The cost will be $45 for members and $55 for nonmembers. That includes lunch for both days, the main match, all the side matches and the Wild Bunch match. I was asked if you only shoot the Wild Bunch on Saturday will the cost be less. Due to the arrangement with our land owner if you only shoot Wild Bunch on Saturday I can only lower it to $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. I have been giving a lot of thought about doing preregistration but in the lase sever match we have done we send include registration forms but we only get less than 10 sent in early, most register the day of the match. So this year I would like to just register the day of the match and not mess with pre-registration. And do not forget this month Wild Shirt weekend I have a several boxes of shotgun shells for winners and the runner ups will get some CVV bucks. Last, the Wild Bunch competitors would like to extend an open invitation to all the cowboy shooters that you are all welcome to bring your BAMM type guns and shoot the BAMM completions with us that we have After the wild bunch match. We are having a large time come and join the fun! And if you do not have a BAMM gun come try it, we will let you use one of ours.

Ya all just come on in and help yourself to all the good things we hard working American s have for you to steal. Don t worry, our gubment will let you go back and forth and ignore our laws all you want. All in the name of compassion for the humanitarian crisis they have created. It s going to get much worse, just wait for the executive orders to hit the fan. All the while the Cold War is heating back up. Iraq has fallen apart, Iran continues to march towards a nuclear capability, and the Russian bear is getting angry, very angry. Please, November, get here quickly! Everyone got their Ebola shots? It all just wears me out sometimes. No wonder I look so forward to Cowboy Shooting most every weekend! It gives me a chance to get away from the news channels and talk radio. There seems to be a bit of good news on the horizon though. My friends have been finding 22 s in bulk more often. Bass Pro in Grapevine actually allowed customers to buy up to 5 bulk packs of 325 or 500 rounds this week. Gander Mountain seems to be the place with the most available as far as I can tell. Most excellent news! I hope to be able to stock back up soon. I suggest you all do too. Powder seems to be the only scarce reloading supply. I hope that turns around soon. Now, what could possibly change things for the worse? I m wondering what the next big scare might bring. There are still several big shoots to go this year. Shootin in the Shade in Hot Springs, and Hellfire in Louisiana, Defend Old Fort Parker in Mexia, and Comin Atcha in English just to name a few. I sure there are others, just be sure to get out there and shoot. Your poor old tired 2 nd Amendment Right needs a bunch of exercise!
BAMM, BAMM, BAMM! by Dusty Boddams SASS #1907 What the heck is BAMM and more importantly should you give a dam, about BAMM? Well let me tell you about BAMM. What it is and what it does. First off it does not get your whites whiter or freshen your breath. It will not make you more or less attractive, fatter or skinnier. Here is what BAMM does. BAMM is an acronym for BOLT ACTION MILITARY MATCH. Oh you think this type of match already exists? Well, not like this. BAMM is shot at various ranges from 30-200 yards the steel targets are generous enough to be hit as long as you do your part. BAMM is a speed and accuracy event that can be shot on any action type ranges and especially well where cowboy and wild bunch matches are shot. Dusty Boddams, has always had an interest in bolt action mil spec arms and thought that it would be a great idea to put the old guns to use as they were intended to be used, in combat. The first thought was this would be a fun stand-alone match. His early interests in the mil guns were that they were cheap for what you bought, powerful enough for his intended use and rugged enough that they could be used for what he wanted -namely four wheeler guns and jeep guns. Being thoroughly impressed with the accuracy and realizing the fun of shooting the guns fast and using stripper clips to feed the ancient weapons of war an idea was hatched. Wild Bunch action shooting needs its own side matches. They had a bunch of 03 type bolt actions in the wild bunch movie. Why not shoot the old guns fast at steel targets with lead bullets? Shoot at distance, up close and in between. Change position at reload. BAMM is a versatile game and can be shot as an additional stage or could be used for the entire match.it is what the match director wants it to be. It does not have a set course of fire that is the same every time it's shot. It is always different. Match approved guns are easy to get. Any factory made original bolt action military rifle or carbine carrying its original battle sights and of the type made up thru WW2 are legal. To be competitive it needs to use stripper clips instead of loading singular so that a fast reload is possible. It's always best and encouraged to down load the lead bullet reloads to be easier on shoulders, ears and mild steel targets. Most of the top competitors try to run about 1500-1800 fps with around 170 grain lead bullet. We usually have our BAMM right after our monthly wild bunch match and usually it's based on 10 to 15 rounds starting out bolt open 5 cartridges in magazine. Speed and accuracy, exactly what the old bolt guns were designed for. The future looks bright for BAMM type matches as they are doing a version as a side match at EOT for the wild bunch shooters. Gosh I guess they built a quarter jillion bolt guns worldwide before the electric ones took over. The old rifles have gotten more expensive but for what they are and what they can do are still reasonable in price. Just remember have the rifle checked over, check the bore and check the head space. There are too many good rifles on the market to mess with a turd and no sense throwing good money after bad. Imagine, you can be competitive with a $ 129 Mosin Nagant or that $ 1500 mint 03 Springfield that has been tucked away in the vault. Literally tons of Mausers are available for less than 400 to 500 dollars. All of them are potential BAMM winners, you just have to do your part. Grab your campaign hat, grab your 03 and let that old bolt gun speak the truth again! New SASS Regulators in the Fold The next time you get a chance, congratulate Hot Tamale, SASS 78531 and Hawkshaw Fred, SASS 36811 for being awarded SASS Regulator Badges at the last End of Trail (EOT) For those who are not aware, this is recognition from SASS for special contributions to our shooting sport as recognized by their peers. For the most part, their contributions have been behind the scenes at the local and national level. Being named as a Regulator is a surprise, an honor, and a quite humbling experience for someone like me.
