Hawley Golf & Country Club 2017 December Newsletter Season's greetings from the Hawley Golf Club. It is that time of the year, scour the mall for that perfect present, start the process of tax season, and to reflect on the past golf season and be grateful for our good fortune for having such a wonderful place to spend our summer days. We had another wonderful year in 2017 and the number of rounds and the balance sheet reflect that as well. Not sure of the final financial figures, but things are looking good going into 2018. This is our first year of having to pay property tax on the land we lease from the City, and one of those things you just have to budget for, but unfortunately the way its going to be. I would love to have it back and invest it in the facilities, but I guess no one asked for my opinion. We will be coming back next spring to a few changes. Late in the year 2 projects were started that will benefit all. The cart path along the 10th hole has been torn up and redone in concrete, much like what was done last year but the 17th tee box. From what I remember it wasn't particularly nice weather about the time Steve and his crew finished up the project and may have to go back and tidy up some things. The other big project in the plans for a few years now is a new bathroom on the 14th fairway. I think both Steve and Terri had their hand in getting everything organized and executed before the snow flew. Thank you both. It will be nice to have a serviceable bathroom on the back 9, and also serve as a weather shelter during inclement weather. In the clubhouse last year we saw a remodel of the front counter and the women's bathroom, the men s room is going to be getting it next, if it can be planned, finished, while we are closed for the season. Thanks to Terri and her people for the work and design. Equipment analysis and purchases are ongoing and we will continue to give the workers the tools to keep the course in good playing condition and as a board we will always be mindful of costs. As always, if you feel a need isn't being met or have suggestions for the board about the course, let us know and it can be discussed as part of our overall plan for the future. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Sincerely, Dan Kuhn, HGC President
