2 2004 Preview For University of Northern Colorado volleyball head coach Ron Alexander, life could not be much better as his team prepares for the 2004 season, his third as head coach of the Bears program. Alexander, who has a gaudy 63-5 record in two seasons on the bench, not only returns nine players from last season s squad that compiled a 32-2 overall record, won the Division I Independent Championship and finished the season with a 26-match winning streak, but also returns redshirt senior Erin Deffenbaugh, the 2002 AVCA Division II National Player of the Year, who sat out the 2003 season with an injury. And life got even sweeter this summer when Alexander became a father for the third time. It has been a hectic summer, said Alexander, whose program enters its second of four seasons of reclassification to Division I in 2004. The move to Division I has really escalated the intensity of our recruiting. My son Ben was born on June 24, and I had one day to welcome him into the world before flying somewhere to go recruiting. The move has forced our recruiting attention to be shifted up about a year. The move to Division I is a big step for our program and we are trying to send a message to the next level that we belong. We have always had talent, but this season we are three, four or even five deep at most every position and it will be a tough decision on who plays, but that is a good problem to have. The focus of most of the attention this year will be on Deffenbaugh and her surgically repaired knee. Two years ago, she was the most dominant player in Division II, amazing crowds with her leaping ability and powerful attacks while leading the country with a 6.14 kills-per-game average on her way to National Player of the Year honors. But an injury suffered in the summer of 2003 kept her from competition a season ago, and that could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for UNC, who will benefit from having her in the lineup against a tough Division I schedule this fall. Deffenbaugh is already the school record holder for kills in a match (39), season (743) and career (1,908) and needs only 769 kills this season to become the Division II all-time leader (a category she has been grandfathered into by playing her first three seasons as a D-II player). Not playing last year was hard on Erin, although she was like a fourth coach on the bench for us, Alexander said. She is such a great leader and a phenomenal athlete, and we expect her to take it to another level this season because her injury will not be a factor at all. She has had an outstanding career and wants to add that last chapter this year so she can be compared to the greatest players who have ever played NCAA volleyball in our region. Deffenbaugh will anchor an outside hitter core that grew by leaps and bounds last year with her on the sidelines. On her way to Division I Independent Freshman of the Year honors, sophomore Terin Ledall (114 games, 4.01 kills) led the team in kills and added 3.25 digs per game. Junior Amanda Wiggins (112 games, 3.73 kills/game) also had a breakout year in 2003, ranking second on the squad in kills and adding 3.23 digs per game after being given the opportunity to move into a starter s role. The group is bolstered by senior right side hitter Maggie Ledall (114 games, 2.86 kills/game), Terin s older sister, who shattered the school record for attack percentage last season by hitting.413 (326k-75e-608a),.074 percentage points higher than the previous mark. Other attackers include sophomore OH/MB Meredith Klein (28 games, 0.29 kills/ game), sophomore RS/OH Lizzy Rhoads (32 games, 1.31 kills/game), redshirt freshman Dulcie Stone, freshman Courtney Bourret and University of New Mexico transfer Lauren Dunsmoor, who was one of the top prospects in Colorado out of high school and played in 17 games with the Lobos in 2003 before an injury ended her season early. In previous years we were always hoping that nobody would get hurt, Alexander said. Finally we are able to add plenty of talent at every position which will really help us. It is all a credit to our recruiting and to the type of kids we are able to bring in. They all come from a good family environment and are looking to get a good education at UNC. The middle blocker position will be manned by senior tri-captain Danelle Angus (114 games, 2.71 kills/game), who has improved her hitting percentage, kills and blocks per game averages in each of her first three seasons at UNC. Last season she hit.289 and averaged a team-high 0.96 blocks per game. Danelle s experience is definitely her strength, Alexander added. She has been through the wars here and that should help her work alongside our younger players. Angus is joined by sophomore returnees Klein and Jill Peotter (15 games, 0.33 kills/ game) and a trio of multi talented newcomers in Lenay Goble, Dani Veal and Callie Vrooman, who will redshirt after suffering a knee injury during the summer. Goble s name should instantly be recognized by Bear volleyball fans, as her older sister Senior Maggie Ledall set the school record for hitting percentage for a match (.857) and a season (.413) during her junior season. Teale (1999-02) was a UNC standout and All-American who ranks No. 2 in program history in both kills (1,852) and digs (1,626). Lenay, who stands 6 2", was a three-time all-state Redshirt senior Erin Deffenbaugh returns this season only 769 kills away from the all-time NCAA career record.

2004 Preview volleyball selection who led her team to a state runner-up finish in 2003 and was also a two-time all-state basketball choice who led her team to an undefeated season and state championship her senior year. In addition, she also was the valedictorian of her senior class, making her one of three current Bears players to share that honor. Veal, who also stands 6 2", was an all-state prep volleyball and basketball standout who will showcase her hardwood skills in the winter with the Bears basketball program. Vrooman, the 2003 Colorado 3A Player of the Year, did one better than either Goble or Veal, as she led Platte Valley High School to both the state volleyball and basketball championship her senior season. She also knows assistant coach Lori Willadsen well, as Vrooman played both her freshman and sophomore seasons of high school under Willadsen at Platte Valley. While the outside hitter and middle blocker positions are Senior Danelle Angus led the Bears with 110 total blocks (0.96/game) during 2003. filled with experienced players, the youngest position on the court for the Bears will be at setter. Two-time All-American Linnea Killsgaard capped her outstanding career last season by becoming the Bears all-time assists leader (5,329), and also by being ranked No. 2 in NCAA history with a 13.53 assists per game career average. Left to battle it out for the setter s starting position will be junior Corrinne Chapin (16 games, 0.69 assists/game) and freshman Ashley Pagel. Chapin has the early advantage after playing behind and learning from Kiilsgaard during the past two years, while Pagel brings an accurate touch to the floor. Corrinne proved this spring that she is capable of running our offense, Alexander stated. The team likes playing for her, but at the same time Ashley is going to be the type of player who is not content with sitting on the bench; she will compete to earn playing time. Defensive specialists and liberos round out the Bears roster as the team looks to replace Kristi Krom, the only libero the program has every known. Junior Amy Casselman (114 games, 1.57 digs/game) has recorded nearly 500 digs in the past two years and will jump into the libero position this season after playing as a defensive specialist her first two years at UNC. Other defensive specialists include freshmen Abby Mayne, Jen Kawakami and Stone, if she does not find time at the outside hitter position. Including our incoming group of freshmen, this is arguably the most talented team we have had at UNC, Alexander said. The newcomers bring a lot of athleticism and we have a brand of student-athlete that is made to excel. Our entire roster is filled with players who are good people, good students and local products who want to win. I think we will be a tough team to win three games from this year because our players just keep coming after you and will not give any match away. The Bears have a very challenging schedule this season, with five teams (BYU, Robert Morris, Saint Mary s, Utah and Wisconsin-Green Bay) that made the NCAA Tournament a season ago on the slate. Although the program is still ineligible for NCAA postseason play, they will have the chance to defend their D-I Independent Championship at the end of the season in a round-robin event against six other independent squads, including first-year Division I teams North and South Dakota State, each of whom were UNC rivals when all were members of the North Central Conference (NCC) just two seasons ago. We are definitely looking forward to defending our independent title, Alexander said. It will be tough, however, playing six matches the final weekend of the season when most teams are beat up, so it will be hard to go undefeated at the event again. It is also nice to play North and South Dakota State again because we have historical rivalries with each team and enjoyed playing against them when we were in the NCC. It is a necessary evil to play a schedule like we are in order to help build a program that will be ready to reach the NCAA Tournament, Alexander continued. When we are finally eligible for NCAA postseason play in 2007-08, we want to be knocking on the door of a Top- 25 ranking and we also want to make an annual trip to the NCAA Tournament. We do not want to be that last team into the field. We want to have a chance to win some matches in the tournament, and if our players continue to buy into the system with blood, sweat and tears then I think we will be able to reach those goals. Those goals definitely seem attainable when you compare the Bears program to all other Division I and II teams over the past two seasons. In that period, the best two-year stretch in school history, Northern Colorado s 63 wins are fifth-most nationwide, while their five losses and.926 winning percentage are fourth best in the country compared against all other teams. This team is going to be fun to watch, Alexander said. It will be a very good team to get behind and cheer for if you are a UNC fan. Hopefully, we will double the size of some of our crowds as we take our game to another level of play. Junior Amanda Wiggins not only averaged 2.76 kills/ game last season but also 3.23 digs/game. 3

4 Coaching Staff RON ALEXANDER HEAD COACH (3RD SEASON) University of Northern Colorado, 1988 After two extraordinary years on the University of Northern Colorado bench, it may be hard to believe how Bears head coach Ron Alexander can improve on the pattern of success he has established for the UNC volleyball program. In just two seasons, he has led the Bears to a 63-5 overall record (the best two-year stretch in school history), a school record 26-match winning streak, a Division II Elite 8 appearance (2002), a Division I Independent Championship (2003) and has coached four AVCA All-Americans while helping guide the program through its reclassification to the Division I ranks. Among all Division I and Division II teams the past two seasons, only four others (Florida, Hawaii, USC and West Texas A&M) have won more matches than the Bears, just three (USC, Hawaii and BYU-Hawaii) have lost fewer matches, and only three (USC, Hawaii and Florida) have had a better winning percentages than UNC. We are looking forward to keeping the program headed in the right direction and focusing on winning whatever conference we are a part of in 2007, Alexander said. By that 2007-08 season, our goal is to be knocking on the door of being a Top 25 program and competing for annual NCAA Tournament bids. We have to send a message to other teams that we definitely belong at this level. We will not be content with being average at the Division I level; we want to make some noise. That seems to be a very realistic goal considering Alexander-led teams don t lose much. Taking into account his first two years on the UNC bench and his last two years as a high school coach at Fort Morgan High School (1998-99), his teams have amassed an amazing 124-6 record in that time period. Last season, Alexander guided UNC to a 32-2 record and the D-I Independent Championship in its first season of Division I volleyball action. After a pair of losses in the team s first eight matches last season, Alexander was able to find the right combination of players and substitutions and the team did not suffer another loss again during the season s final 26 matches. The Bears did not just win those matches but dominated their opponents along the way, winning 21 of those contests in convincing 3-0 fashion. Along the way, the Bears established the school mark for consecutive sets won (40) and won 78 of the final 84 total sets in which they played. And all of this was without the 2002 AVCA D-II National Player of the Year Erin Deffenbaugh, who suffered a knee injury prior to preseason workouts and had to sit out the entire season, but Deffenbaugh will return for her senior season in 2004. I wish we could have finished off 2003 with the chance to win a national title but we simply ran out of time with the transition to Division I; I really think we would have won it all at the Division II level last year, Alexander said. We probably should have gone undefeated last year as both matches we lost we had our chances to win. It is a real testament to our kids on how hard-working and hard-nosed they are. During the 2002 season, its final as a Division II team and Alexander s first as head coach, the Bears had a 31-3 record, climbed to a No. 2 national ranking (which matched the highest ranking in school history), won both the North Central Conference (NCC) and North Central Regional Championships and earned a berth in the NCAA Elite 8 for the fifth time in school history. Four times during the season, UNC had the AVCA National Player of the Week and three Bears were named All-American, including Deffenbaugh, who became the program s first AVCA National Player of the Year. For his outstanding efforts, Alexander was named both the NCC and North Central Region Coach of the Year. Alexander s teams also get the job done in the classroom, as one player has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in each of his first two seasons as a head coach, increasing the program s total to seven student-athlete recipients of that award in program history. Teale Goble earned those honors in 2002 (along with the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship), while Kristi Krom was honored in 2003 after compiling a perfect 4.0 gpa During that period, the team also has had 23 UNC Scholar Athletes, two academic allconference selections, four CoSIDA Academic All-District choices and their cumulative grade point averages rank near the top of all UNC sports. That is what we want our program to stand for, Alexander said. We want excellence on the court, excellence in the classroom and excellence in the community. Teale and Kristi are perfect examples of the type of student-athletes that we are recruiting to our

Coaching Staff 5 program to represent these three levels of excellence. Prior to taking over the reins as head coach, Alexander served as an assistant under legendary head coach Linda Delk for two seasons (2000-01). Delk, a UNC Hall of Fame member, is the only other volleyball coach in Northern Colorado history and won 702 matches in her 26-year career before retiring and making way for Alexander to ascend into the head coaching role. Alexander graduated from UNC in 1988 with a degree in physical education (K-12) and went on to work at Fort Morgan High School. In 12 seasons as head volleyball coach at Fort Morgan, Alexander s teams qualified for the state tournament seven times, won six Tri-Valley Volleyball League championships and claimed three Class 4A state titles during the 1990 s. He was named Colorado s Volleyball Coach of the Year in both 1992 and 1998. The biggest difference between being a head coach at the high school and college level is that in high school you can look at your schedule and know which games will be challenges, but at the collegiate level every night is a challenge, and if you do not come to play, you are going to lose. UNC is where I have always dreamed of being a head coach, and I take great pride in my efforts here. I am also pleased that my family can remain in the area. Colorado has been a very special place to me. I am very proud of my northern Colorado roots, and the Greeley area is the type of place that I would like to retire in. In his spare time, Alexander has been a volunteer fireman for the past 11 years; eight in Fort Morgan and the past three in Eaton. He can also be found officiating boys and girls high school basketball games. Being a volunteer firefighter is a good way to give back to the community. It is very motivating and pleasing to be challenged in that way and the training you receive is fantastic. Officiating high school basketball is a good way to keep you in shape and it is fun to be around high school athletics because so much of my life was spent in high school athletics. Alexander, who received his master s degree in sport and exercise science with an emphasis in sports administration from UNC in 2003, and his wife, Joanna, have three children, Trey (7), Hannah (5) and Benjamin (born June 24, 2004). 6 Coaching Staff LORI WILLADSEN ASSISTANT COACH (3RD SEASON) Upper Iowa University, 1993 Lori Willadsen begins her third year as an UNC volleyball assistant coach in 2004. In her first season as an assistant, she helped UNC to a 31-3 record, a North Central Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Elite 8. She followed that up by helping the Bears to a 32-2 record and 26- match winning streak in 2003. Willadsen s main responsibilities with the Bears include the weights and conditioning program, overseeing team academics and volunteer work, tracking recruits and working with the UNC setters. In each of her first two seasons on the bench, she coached setter Linnea Kiilsgaard to AVCA All-American honors, including a firstteam selection in 2003, as Kiilsgaard became the UNC all-time assists leader. Prior to UNC, Willadsen enjoyed an outstanding career as head volleyball coach at Platte Valley High School. In six seasons at Platte Valley, she amassed a 152-32 record while her teams won three Colorado 3A State Championships (1998, 1999 and 2001) and five regional championships. Willadsen coached 11 all-state players including current Bears Danelle Angus and Amy Casselman. A third former player, Callie Vrooman, will be a freshman at UNC this fall. On the court it is about the same thing, except the girls are bigger, stronger and taller and girls at the collegiate level crush the ball all the time, Willadsen said about the differences between coaching at the high school and college level. The biggest difference may be the office work and learning all the recruiting rules. Coming here was a fantastic decision, and the fact that we were so successful was a nice added bonus. Prior to her coaching career, Willadsen graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1993 with a degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic training. Lori is a very dedicated, hard-working coach who takes care of all the little details and adds a lot to the program, UNC head coach Ron Alexander said. She is a perfect fit, and we could not ask for a better set of assistants. Willadsen and her husband, Dan, have two children: Emma (5) and Mason (4). Theycurrently live in Eaton. LYNDSEY BENSON ASSISTANT COACH (2ND SEASON) Louisiana State University, 2002 Lyndsey Benson enters her second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Bears. In her first-year on the UNC bench, the Bears finished the season with a 32-2 overall record and finished the season with a 26-match winning streak. Benson was no stranger to the area or even some of the Bears players when she took the job, as she was born in Greeley, attended Eaton High School and even baby sat current student-athletes Maggie and Terin Ledall. Benson, who is working on a master s degree in athletic administration at UNC, graduated from Louisiana State University in 2002 with a degree in mass communication. At LSU, Benson recorded 259 kills and 369 digs in her four years despite battling several injuries. She also got the job done in the classroom and was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection. As a freshman, Benson recorded five double-figure kill matches, two double-doubles and set career-highs with 19 kills and 17 digs against New Orleans (Sept. 4, 1998). At Eaton High, she earned all-state honors three times and set the Colorado state record for kills in a career (981) while leading the Reds to a state championship during her senior season in 1997. Benson spent the 2002 season as an assistant coach at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. The Bulldogs finished 13-14 overall and 5-6 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. In the summer of 2004, Benson completed an internship with USA Volleyball in Colorado Springs. We could not ask for a better set of assistants, UNC head coach Ron Alexander said. Lyndsey has allowed us to make the transition to the Division I level with recruiting and developing players in a much more successful way. To be able to have that kind of resource to the program may be the single-most important thing we have done.

2003 in Review 23 At the end of the 2002 volleyball season, it would have been hard to imagine a team having a much better season than that squad produced. The 2002 team was 31-3 overall, tied a school record for winning percentage and advanced all the way to the Elite 8 before coming up three matches short of the national championship. The 2003 season marked the beginning of the transition to Division I, and along with the move brought a four-year period where the team is unable to compete in NCAA postseason competition. That prevented the squad from a chance to make a return trip to the Elite 8 and a chance at claiming a title. The team was also dealt another blow before the season even began, when 2002 AVCA National Player of the Year Erin Deffenbaugh suffered a knee injury that would keep her out the entire season. But the lack of postseason opportunity and the absence of Deffenbaugh did not prevent the 2003 Bears from turning in arguably the best season of volleyball in school history. UNC began the season in paradise, opening at the Hawaiian Style Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Playing with a lot of new players and different combinations of lineups, the Bears did not start the season as quickly as a year ago when they won 10 straight to open the year. After beating NAIA Briar Cliff in the opener, the Bears fell behind 2-0 early to No. 22 ranked Hawaii Pacific. UNC fought back brilliantly and sent the match to a fifth set but eventually lost 3-2. However, the team salvaged the weekend by beating Hawaii-Hilo and Seattle and returned to Greeley with a 3-1 record. The home opener brought former NCC rival North Dakota State to town, and the Bison brought the No. 10 nationally ranking with them. Game one of the match went to a ridiculous 41-39 and the 41 points was just one point away from the NCAA record for most points scored by a team in a match. NDSU was able to capture game two, but UNC won games three and four to claim the match. The two teams combined for 130 total points on the night, which tied the NCAA record for most points in a four-game match. The Bears schedule would not get any easier as they headed to the Premier Challenge in Denver to defend the title they won a season ago. The Bears breezed through the event early on sweeping St. Edwards and Regis on day one to win their pool and advance to the championship bracket. No. 4 ranked CS-San Bernardino awaited them in the semifinals and UNC would win 30-27 and 30-15 in games one and two and looked like a lock for the championship. But San Bernardino, who spent most of the season as the No. 1 ranked team in Division II, fought back, forced a fifth set and eventually won 3-2, marking the first time in 191 matches the Bears had blown a 2-0 lead in a match. The 2003 UNC Volleyball Team: Front Row (L-R): Asst. Coach Lori Willadsen, Kelli Benham, Corrinne Chapin, Amy Casselman, Sarah Robbins, Kristi Krom, Jenny Evans, Dulcie Stone, Asst. Coach Lyndsey Benson. Back Row: Asst. Coach Teale Hemphill, Meredith Klein, Amanda Wiggins, Danelle Angus, Jill Peotter, Lizzy Rhoads, Cara Miller, Maggie Ledall, Terin Ledall, Linnea Kiilsgaard, Erin Deffenbaugh, Head Coach Ron Alexander. All-American Linnea Kiilsgaard capped her career as UNC s all-time leader in assists and ranked No. 2 all-time in NCAA history for assists/game (13.53) for a career. But the team did not dwell on the loss and came back that night to sweep No. 3 Truman State to claim the third place finish at the event and start a run that few teams ever get to experience. Including the Truman match, over the next 13 matches the Bears did not lose a single game, running off a school record 39 consecutive sets against some tough competition. In the stretch, the Bears swept by No. 5 Metro State, No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 15 Pitt State and Utah Valley State. Following the record-setting 39 th straight game, the Bears extended the streak to 40 before losing game two of a match against No. 7 Truman State on the Bulldogs home court. But UNC still won that match 3-1 and continued their march toward the Division I Independent Championships. In fact, the Bears would not lose the remainder of the season. When UNC bested Utah Valley State on Nov. 7, their home-court winning streak stood at 21 matches to end the regular season. But the campaign was not over as four Division I teams awaited the Bears in Fort Wayne, Ind. UNC opened the event by sweeping Texas Pan-American and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, bringing their shutout total to 25 on the season, another school record. Day two of the event pitted UNC against host IPFW, the defending champions of the event. And in one of the best volleyball matches of the year, the Bears were able to match the athletic Mastodons point-for-point on the way to a 3-1 victory. A 3-1 victory over Utah Valley later in the day allowed the Bears to capture the Division I Independent Championship in their first season of competition at the event. The victory also capped the Bears winning streak at a school record 26 matches to end the season and also broke the school record for winning percentage in a season (.941), fewest losses in a season (2) and best two-year stretch in school history (63-5,.926). UNC also extended its winning streak on opponent s home courts to 16, another school record, and the team set the single-season mark for hitting percentage (.285). The season was also a banner year for senior All-American setter Linnea Kiilsgaard who earned MVP honors of both the D-I Independent season and tournament. Along the way, Kiilsgaard broke the UNC career mark for assists (5,329) in becoming the first player to ever reach the 5,300 assists plateau. She also became the 16 th member of the UNC 1,000 Dig Club. Most impressively, her 13.53 assists/game average for her career ranked her No. 2 all-time in NCAA history. Junior Maggie Ledall also had a breakout season and shattered the single-season record for hitting percentage, establishing the new mark of.413 (326k-75e-608a), which broke the previous mark of.339. She also established the UNC match record for hitting percentage, hitting.857 (12k-0e-14a) in a win over Shippensburg. For her efforts, she earned D-I Independent first-team honors and was also named to the D-I Independent All- Tournament team. Terin Ledall was named D-I Independent Freshman of the Year after leading the team in kills per game (4.01) and hitting double-figures kills in 31 of UNC s 34 matches. Senior libero Kristi Krom continued to amaze UNC fans with her outstanding defense and led the Bears with 4.88 digs per game; she also continued her excellence in the classroom, and was named a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Sophomore Amanda Wiggins, who was second on the team in kills (3.73), won Academic All-District honors.

Named for longtime UNC coaches Pete Butler and John Hancock, Butler-Hancock Hall opened its doors Feb. 4, 1975, with a basketball doubleheader. The UNC women played Wyoming, while the men played host to Air Force. With a seating capacity of 4,500 fans, Butler-Hancock Hall has been the site of numerous memorable events. UNC has played host to regional volleyball tournaments in 1981, 1989, 1990 and 2002, a regional men s basketball tournament in 1989 and a regional women s basketball game in 1995. Butler-Hancock Hall was also the site of the 1992, 1996 and 2001 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships. In the summer of 2002, Butler-Hancock hosted a men s olympic volleyball exhibition match between the United States and Korean national teams. The Bears have recorded an impressive 251-48 (.839) record at Butler-Hancock Hall since 1976. Between Oct. 1, 1993, and Oct. 28, 1994, UNC won 11 straight matches and a school-record 34 consecutive games. During the 2002 season, the Bears posted a perfect 12-0 record at home, including winning the North Central Regional on their home court. UNC was also undefeated at home in 2003, won 24 of the 26 sets they played in and bring a 21-match home winning streak into the 2004 season. The Bears longest home winning streak is 33 matches. The streak began after UNC lost to Air Force at in the finals of the UNC Invitational on Sept. 28, 1985. The Bears then won 33 straight home matches until the Kansas Jayhawks handed the Bears a 3-2 defeat on Nov. 8, 1987. The Bears also enjoy playing in front of some of the best fans in the nation. In the mid-1990s, UNC ranked among the nation s leaders in average attendance. On Oct. 11, 1994, the Bears drew 1,368 fans for a match against intrastate rival Metro State. In 2002, UNC set a season attendance average record of 773 fans in 12 matches, a figure that ranked second nationally. UNC also smashed its single game attendance record when 1,425 fans attended their North Central Regional semifinal victory over Minnesota State, Mankato on Nov. 22, 2002. When UNC hosts Wyoming in the 2004 home opener (Sept. 7), the match will be the 300th Bears volleyball match played in Butler-Hancock Hall.
