Match background England opened their campaign with a final tournament record 6-0 win against Scotland before beating Spain 2-0. Portugal claimed their first ever UEFA Women's EURO points on Sunday (and their first two goals) with a 2-1 victory over Scotland, bouncing back well following a 2-0 opening defeat by Spain. These sides have played one another seven times with England winning five and drawing two, leading the goal count 20-3. Their most recent meeting was in the 2005 Algarve Cup with England securing a 4-0 victory, Casey Stoney among the scorers. They were also pitted together in 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying, drawing 1-1 in Portugal while England won 3-0 at home. In UEFA Women's EURO 2001 qualifying, England prevailed 2-0 at home but were held 2-2 in Portugal. Their first encounters were in 1997 qualifying, England winning 5-0 away and 3-0 at home. England played at the Willem II Stadion in Tilburg as recently as 29 November, beating the Netherlands 1-0 with a Jodie Taylor goal. 3

Team facts Portugal EURO 2013: Fourth in qualifying group EURO best: First qualification How they qualified: Group 2 runners-up, W4 D1 L3 F15 A11 Pts13, won play-off v Romania (agg: 1-1, Portugal won on away goals) Coach: Francisco Neto One to watch: Cláudia Neto (midfielder, Linköping) What to watch out for: All the other finals debutants commenced qualifying in the second tier of seeds, but Portugal were drawn from Pot 4 and ranked 25th of the 40 competing countries. Even so, they overhauled both the Republic of Ireland and Finland to earn a play-off, beating the latter in a memorable comeback from two goals down, Cláudia Neto hitting a hat-trick in a 3-2 triumph. It was the third time they had been one two-legged tie away from the finals and, despite being held 0-0 at home by Romania, the return fixture ended 1-1 after extra time, a strike from debutant Andreia Norton securing Portugal a surprise EURO place on away goals. While they have experience of facing the elite sides from hosting the annual Algarve Cup each March, this is a huge step up for the Portuguese, even with a squad containing players with foreign know-how like Neto, Ana Borges and Ana Leite. England EURO 2013: Group stage EURO best: Runners-up (1984, 2009) How they qualified: Group 7 winners, W7 D1 L0 F32 A1 Pts22 Coach: Mark Sampson One to watch: Steph Houghton (defender, Manchester ) What to watch out for: The early 2013 exit, which included a 3-2 loss to Spain, sparked a change in management and young Welshman Mark Sampson led England to 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup bronze, the best European finish in Canada. Sampson opted to name his squad on 3 Apriil, more than three months before the deadline, and a group of players not too dissimilar to the World Cup selection have looked good in the four friendlies since, including wins against Austria, Switzerland and Denmark, with Ellen White looking on excellent form up front having, like fellow forward Fran Kirby, returned from long-term injury. 4
