KENNEL NOTES Wednesday 17 January 2018 Issue: 1 MISS BAMSY CLAIMS BIRTHDAY CUP 405m specialist Miss Bamsy led all-the-way in the Group 3 Mandurah Mail Birthday Cup (405m) last Friday to give trainer Jackie Wilson her first group race success. After a sweet launch from the pole Miss Bamsy edged out the equally fast starting Marydoll to secure the crucial front running position. Marydoll shadowed Miss Bamsy to the corner but the leader was able to get separation as she entered the home straight and then kicked away to put the issue to rest. Miss Bamsy crossed the finish line two lengths ahead in 22.53. Marydoll rolled on to claim second place while Equanimity rounded out the top three. Wilson described Miss Bamsy s victory as tremendous. Miss Bamsy has thrived since joining Wilson s team midway through last year. The former NSW chaser landed in WA with a solitary win from 17 attempts to her name but she has become a top notch short-course performer. The Birthday Cup was her 15th win over the 405m journey. She s done extremely well since she arrived at my kennel, the Forrestdale based trainer said. For a cheap little $2000 dog she s done alright. The race was carrying Group 3 status for the first time and the race between Quick jagger, a recent winner of the Group 1 Sale Cup and Neil Monelli provide a classic finish. Both greyhounds bettered Petunia Monelli s 715m track record mark of 41.76secs with Neil Monelli running a scintillating 41.66secs to grab that title from his kennelmate. Owner/Trainer David Hobby only recently switched Neil Monelli to staying races and Saturdays win was his first in three attempts at the 715m journey.

FROM THE STEWARDS Rwwa greyhound Stewards completed an inquiry on 10 January 2018 into the use of St David s straight track in Nambeelup, by T2 trainer Mr Wayne Rose. After hearing evidence from Mr Rose and Deputy Chief Steward Mr Graham O Dea, Mr Rose pleaded guilty to three counts under GAR 86 (p), for failing to comply with the lawful order of a Steward. Mr Rose was subsequently fined $500.00 for each count, totalling $1500.00. FROM THE STEWARDS On Wednesday 10 January 2018 RWWA Greyhound Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the condition of the tail of FALCON S GLORY which was presented to race at Greyhounds WA Cannington on 16 December 2017. Trainer Mr B McPherson was found guilty to a charge under R86(o) for negligence and was subsequently fined $600. RWWA ANNOUNCES 2017 WA GOTY CONTENDERS Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) is pleased to announce that the following three greyhounds (in alphabetical order) are the final contenders for the 2017 WA Greyhound of the Year (GOTY) Title EQUANIMITY, PEPPER FIRE and QUICK JAGGER. EQUANIMITY raced 40 times during 2017 for 16 wins and nine placings for a total of $279,120 in stakes and a further $57,000 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. EQUANIMITY started the year off as an inexperienced chaser but he defied his youth and took out the Group 1 Perth Cup at only his 10th career start. He went on to make 11 feature race finals for the year, adding the Group 2 All Stars and the Anniversary Cup to his trophy cabinet. PEPPER FIRE raced 45 times during 2017 for 13 wins and 19 placings for a total of $154,845 in stakes and a further $23,500 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. PEPPER FIRE started the year off in fine style winning the Group 3 Birthday Cup and finishing 2nd in the Group 1 Perth Cup. She contested five Group race finals throughout the year and impressed in Victoria winning a heat and finishing 4th in the Group 1 Sapphire Classic final. QUICK JAGGER raced 27 times during 2017 for 12 wins and nine placings for a total of $135,055 in stakes and a further $12,500 in WESTCHA$E bonuses. QUICK JAGGER showed his potential early on in his career breaking the Cannington 520m track record at his 3rd start and then lowering his mark a further two times, with his 29.29 effort still standing. He made five feature race finals for the year with his biggest win coming in the Group 1 Sale Cup in Victoria where he beat the million dollar earner FANTA BALE. All three final contenders will be acknowledged at an evening function at the Pan Pacific Perth on Sunday, 18 March. At which the 2017 WA GOTY Award will be presented, along with various other awards.

TRACK INJURY SURGERY REBATE SCHEME AMENDMENT Following a review of some recent track injuries, the below underlined amendment has been made to the track injury surgery rebate scheme. In a nutshell the change covers the situation where on race night the decision is made to pursue surgery and undertake the rebate scheme, but on further diagnosis the severity of the injury is found to be too great to continue with the surgery option. The scheme will then cover 80% of those initial diagnostic and associated costs. This amendment will come into effect immediately. Financial Contribution RWWA will refund 80% of surgery costs and reasonable associated costs (e.g. bandaging, prescribed medication), up to $1,200 plus GST per incident. Only where the extent of an eligible injury is confirmed on x-ray, by a Veterinarian to be at a level of severity that prevents the intended surgery, will RWWA also refund 80% of the initial diagnostic consultation and associated costs (e.g. bandaging, prescribed medication, x-ray s etc not including any euthanasia costs if that is performed by any Veterinarian) Following completion of the surgery or as otherwise may arise as outlined and subject to evidence of payment, participants can apply for reimbursement of costs using the official RWWA form within the set timeframes. ASSISTANT GRADER UPDATE Recent recruit Clinton Firth is no longer employed at RWWA and recruiting for a new Assistant Grader has begun. Applications close on 26 January and further details can be found on the RWWA Careers page. http://www.rwwa.com.au/home/about/job-opportunities.html GRADING DAY CHANGE FOR AUSTRALIA DAY Please be aware that the Cannington Wednesday 31 January meeting will be graded a day earlier on Thursday 25 January in conjunction with the Mandurah Thursday 30 January meeting. 5 January 2018 M E D I A R E L E A S E Greyhounds Stewards Inquiry Ms Jodie Lakin RWWA Stewards yesterday concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the greyhound TOPPER HOLMS wearing a barking muzzle as discovered by Stewards at the property of T2 Trainer Ms Jodie Lakin. Evidence was taken from RWWA Greyhound Stipendiary Steward Mr Cameron Kerr, RWWA s Industry Veterinarian Dr Judith Medd and T2 Trainer Ms Jodie Lakin. After hearing evidence, Ms Lakin pleaded guilty to a charge under Local Rule 105 A, in that, being the trainer of TOPPER HOLMS, she did use a barking muzzle on that greyhound as discovered by RWWA greyhound Stewards at her property on 13 December 2017. After taking into account all of the circumstances in respect to the question of penalty the Stewards determined to impose a 6 month disqualification. However due to significant mitigating circumstances the penalty was subsequently reduced to a 3 month disqualification with immediate effect. In considering an appropriate penalty, Stewards were mindful of the following factors; Ms Lakin s early plea of guilty to the charge. Ms Lakin s cooperation during the entire investigation and inquiry. Her personal circumstances. Her unblemished record whilst registered with RWWA. The satisfactory condition of the greyhound as found by the Stewards. The circumstances surrounding the commission of the offence. The seriousness of the offence.
