The Safetrack surface has been well received by buyers and sellers, and 2008 graduates have performed well at the races on all surfaces. An even 200 horses are cataloged for the sale which starts at noon. The catalog is in the mail and available on the OBS website. OBS graduates continue to perform at the highest level as OBS February leads all sales producing stakes winners at a remarkable rate of 11.5%. Three 2008 Grade 1 winners grace the catalog: 2006 Eclipse award winner Wait a While, Spinaway winner Mani Bhavan and Vosburgh winner Black Seventeen. An OBS newsletter highlighting the accomplishments of 2008 has been distributed to domestic and international buyers and may be also accessed at obssales.com. A general overview of OBS two-year-old sales performance with specific information for OBS February is attached. Darley will again sponsor the OBS Championship Races to be held the day before the OBS February Sale. The combination of increased purses and seasons to Henny Hughes, Rockport Harbor and Consolidator should result in greater participation and pre-sale publicity. MEDICATION, HORSESHOES, RIDING CROPS & PROHIBITED PRACTICES Please refer to the attached, detailing the recently amended policy effective this sale. **** NEW SALES RESULTS REPORTING REQUIREMENTS **** In compliance with the amendment to Florida Statute 535.16 effective July 2, 2008, any horse reported as a sale on the original sales results, which in fact is an RNA must be reported by OBS. These corrections must be published by OBS within 90 days of the sale. EHV-1 Guidelines As many horses are transported to locations requiring an EHV-1 statement on Health Certificates, you must submit EHV-1 vaccination records. Complete the attached form signed by your veterinarian. All horses shipping from out of state must be accompanied by a negative coggins and a health certificate. In order to help our hip taggers; please be available at your barn two hours prior to the sale to provide assistance and expedite the process. Please be reminded that if the buyer does not pick up the horse or make arrangements for its care, the consignor should insure the horse will be cared for. If you can no longer care for the horse, notify OBS so we may look after the horse. Entry forms must be complete and signed and accompanied by either the Jockey Club Registration papers or payment of the $425 entry fee.
OBS FEBRUARY 2009 SALES INFORMATION EHV-1 VACCINATION RECORDS: OBS requires the EHV-1 vaccination records form be submitted and signed by a veterinarian. MEDICAL INFORMATION CENTER: All horses sell with a bone warranty described in condition seven, whether or not radiographs are in the information center. Radiographs must be within thirty days of the sale and submitted by noon Thursday, February 12 th. Scope reports or any other veterinary statements may be placed in the information center. Medical information will not be accepted after the deadline as OBS compiles a list for distribution at the sale. The information center does not void any warranties or required announcements as stated in conditions seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh. MEDICATION, RIDING CROPS, HORSESHOES, PROHIBITED PRACTICES: Attached policy effective February 2009. POST-BREEZE TESTS: Blood tests will be performed on horses selected at the sole discretion of OBS at all under tack shows. Blood will be drawn at the test barn (Barn 12A) and results should be received within 48 hours. Any horse that receives undisclosed medication which is identified by the test is subject to withdrawal or return. Positive results will be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture as required. POST-SALE TESTS: The purchaser may request a post-sale blood test within 24 hours of purchase according to Florida law. OBS policy allows the buyer to request a test for exogenous anabolic steroids at the time of purchase. ` MEDICATION REPORTING: Medication reports must be submitted to OBS on a daily basis starting 72 hours prior to the first under tack show and continuously through sale day. Medication may be administered according to state guidelines described below while also abiding by further restrictions imposed by OBS policy. It is extremely important to have these forms completed accurately and signed by your veterinarian. Reports must be submitted to the office or information center within 12 hours of treatment or 1 hour prior to the sale session or under tack show, whichever is earlier. Medication reports for each horse will be in the information center and available to prospective buyers upon written request. Copies of those requests are available to the consignor. SUMMARY OF MEDICATION REGULATIONS (FLORIDA CHAPTER 535.08): No person shall administer to a thoroughbred horse offered at a licensed public sale any substance recognized as an injectable, oral, or topical medication within 72 hours of the start of the sales session (or under tack show) unless the person is a licensed veterinarian and the medication is therapeutic or necessary for the treatment or prevention of an illness or injury and is reported to the sales organization. A separate medication form signed by a veterinarian must be submitted individually for each horse treated. Copies of 535.08 are available at OBS. PAPERWORK: A $100 late fee will be assessed after Friday, February 6 th. Make necessary arrangements with your bank. UNDER TACK SHOW: Horses must be presented as scheduled. Changes must be approved prior to the under tack show. Please keep your horse to the side and out of the way while waiting for your rider. A horse may only appear once during the under tack show. Under Tack Forms must be submitted by noon, Tuesday, February 10 th. RACETRACK SCHEDULE Normal hours are 6:30 AM until 1:00 PM, except: Friday, February 13th: CLOSED for the under tack show except it will remain open until 7:30 AM for horses in the OBS Races only. Monday, February 16th: open until 10:00 AM due to OBS Championship Races. Training racetrack will remain open from 6:30 AM until 1:00 PM on all days. TRACK RULES: Do not jog horses on the horse path. Stay off the rail if not breezing. Sale horses must train with sale saddle towels by Thursday, February 5th. Horses are to remain on horse path and not cut through barn area. SAFETY VESTS AND HELMETS: OBS requires all riders to wear an approved safety vest and helmet while on horseback. This includes anyone aboard any horse (including ponies). Safety vests must be zipped and helmet straps fastened at all times including to and from the racetrack and in the shed row. SADDLE TOWELS & HALTER TAGS: Return to the stable gate. $25 will be charged for missing saddle towels or halter tags. SALE HALTERS & HIP TAGS Be available at your barn two hours prior to sale time to assist our hip taggers. Do not remove the hip tags or sale halters from your horse after the sale. CARE OF HORSE AFTER SALE: The consignor is responsible for the care of the horse until the buyer picks up the horse or for at least 48 hours after the sale. Notify OBS after that time so that we may look after the horse. STALLS: DO NOT USE A STALL FOR TACK OR PONY WITHOUT IT BEING ASSIGNED TO YOU BY OBS. ANY STALL NOT OCCUPIED BY A SALE HORSE MAY BE REASSIGNED. MUCK PICK - UP SCHEDULE: Muck wagons will be removed beginning at 8:30 AM daily and will be replaced after the sale. SIGNS/STALL CARDS: Signs may not be hung in the shed row or by an entrance/exit of the barn. OBS will assist you in hanging signs from the barns. OBS is not responsible for signs left after the sale. Consignors are responsible for their own stall cards. GATES: Please bring in your sales tack, feed, and equipment in early morning or after the sale.
