4. First Aid Measures Ingestion: Eye Contact: Skin Contact: Inhalation: If a person vomits place them in the recovery position so that vomit will not reenter the mouth and throat. Rinse mouth with water. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and take precautions to protect themselves. Remove from source of exposure. Flush with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists or signs of toxicity occur, seek medical attention. Provide symptomatic/supportive care as necessary. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and are aware of precautions to protect themselves. Remove from source of exposure. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. Flush with copious amounts of water for at least 20 minutes. Use soap. If irritation persists or signs of toxicity occur, seek medical attention. Provide symptomatic/supportive care as necessary. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and are aware of precautions to protect themselves. Remove from source of exposure. Move individual(s) to fresh air. Give artificial respiration if individual(s) are not breathing and call emergency medical service. If signs of toxicity occur, seek medical attention. Provide symptomatic/supportive care as necessary. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and are aware of precautions to protect themselves. Protection of First-Aiders: Use personal protective equipment (see section 8). Signs and Symptoms: Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure: Notes to Physician: Not determined. Not determined. Treat supportively and symptomatically. 5. Firefighting Measures Suitable Extinguishing Media: Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: The product contains a substantial proportion of water; therefore there are no restrictions on the type of extinguishing media which may be used. Choice of extinguishing media should take into account surrounding areas. Use water, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam as necessary. Not determined. 2 of 8

Specific Hazards Arising from the Chemical: Hazardous Combustion Products: Other Specific Hazards: Special Protective Equipment/ Precautions for Firefighters: Though the material is non-combustible, evaporation of water from the mixture, caused by the heat of nearby fire, may produce floating layers of combustible substances. Not determined. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full and protective gear. 6. Accidental Release Measures Personal Precautions: Use personal protective equipment recommended in Section 8 of this document and isolate the hazard area. Personal Protective Equipment: For personal protection see section 8. Methods for Cleaning Up: Environmental Precautions: Reference to Other Sections: Absorb spills with inert material (e,g., dry sand or earth), then place in a chemical waste container. After removal, flush spill area with soap and water to remove trace residue. DO NOT allow wash water from cleaning or process equipment to enter sewers, ditches and waterways. Refer to Sections 8, 12 and 13 for further information. 7. Handling and Storage Precautions for Safe Handling: Conditions for Safe Storage, Including Any Incompatibilities: Specific End Use: Handle in accordance with product label and/or product insert information. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices. Store at controlled room temperature 15 C 30 C (59 F 86 F). Store away from incompatible materials. Protect from light. Store according to label and/or product insert information. Pharmaceuticals. 8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection Occupational Exposure Guidelines: Common or Chemical Name Acetylcysteine Employee Exposure Limits Not established. 3 of 8

Engineering Controls: Respiratory Protection: Eyes Protection: Hand Protection: Skin Protection: Engineering controls should be used as the primary means to control exposures. Enclosed local exhaust ventilation is required at points of dust, fume or vapour generation. HEPA terminated local exhaust ventilation should be considered at point of generation of dust, fumes or vapours. Barrier protection or laminar flow cabinets should be considered for laboratory scale handling. A fume hood or vented balance enclosure is recommended for weighing/ transferring quantities exceeding 500 mg. Not required for the normal use of this product. Where respirators are deemed necessary to reduce or control occupational exposures, use NIOSH-approved respiratory protection and have an effective respirator program in place (applicable U.S. regulation OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134). Safety glasses with side shields are recommended. Face shields or goggles may be required if splash potential exists or if corrosive materials are present. Approved eye protection (e.g., bearing the ANSI Z87 or CSA stamp) is preferred. Maintain eyewash facilities in the work area. Chemically compatible gloves. For handling solutions, ensure that the glove material is protective against the solvent being used. Use handling practices that minimize direct hand contact. Employees who are sensitive to natural rubber (latex) should use nitrile or other synthetic non-latex gloves. Use of powdered latex gloves should be avoided due to the risk of latex allergy. Wear protective laboratory coat, apron, or disposable garment when working with large quantities. 9. Physical and Chemical Properties Physical State/Color: Clear, colorless liquid. Possibility of Hazardous Reactions: Conditions to Avoid (e.g., static discharge, shock, or vibration): Incompatible Materials: Hazardous Decomposition Products: Hazardous Polymerization: Protect from air and light. None known. Decomposes on heating and produces toxic fumes of: Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ), Nitrogen Oxides (NO x ), Sulfur Oxides (SO x ), and other pyrolysis products typical of burning organic material. May emit poisonous fumes. Will not occur. 11. Toxicological Information Information on the Likely Routes of Exposure: Inhalation: Ingestion: The material is not thought to produce either adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract following inhalation (as classified by EC Directives using animal models). Nevertheless, adverse systemic effects have been produced following exposure of animals by at least one other route and good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting. Not normally a hazard due to non-volatile nature of product. Although ingestion is not thought to produce harmful effects (as classified under EC Directives), the material may still be damaging to the health of the individual, following ingestion, especially where pre-existing organ (e.g liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally based on doses producing mortality rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill-health). Gastrointestinal tract discomfort may produce nausea and vomiting. In an occupational setting however, ingestion of insignificant quantities is not thought to be cause for concern. 5 of 8

Skin Contact: The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified by EC Directives using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material. Entry into the blood-stream through, for example, cuts, abrasions, puncture wounds or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. Examine the skin prior to the use of the material and ensure that any external damage is suitably protected. Eye Contact: Symptoms Related to the Physical, Chemical and Toxicological Characteristics: Delayed and Immediate Effects of Exposure: Although the liquid is not thought to be an irritant (as classified by EC Directives), direct contact with the eye may produce transient discomfort characterized by tearing or conjunctival redness (as with windburn). See Section 4. To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated.
