CELEBRATING 26 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Denver Chapter - American Singles Golf Association February 2018 Wren s Bird Droppings Welcome to the new year! We have an exciting year ahead of us with 9 and Dines, 18 Holes, and 3-Par Events! If you would like to help the chairs of these events, let them know! Everyone involved makes for a better experience for everyone. It s just like anything else, the more you give out there, the more you will receive back! Come to the Golf Expo February 9-11, 2018 at the Denver Mart at 58th and I-25, get a FREE EXHIBITORS PASS to the Expo. Let Terry Smith know. He d like to have at each half day shift one man and two women attend the booth. This is a great way to meet fellow golfers and share your experience with our fun group. You don t get the free pass if you don t help. Also, I m encouraging everyone to attend our socials. Why? To meet other people, to learn what s going on with the club and new activities and learn something new with golf! We are going to have a 10-15 minute presentation either by a pro golfer or our very own Paul Masimer, Chairman of Education and Instruction. Use this opportunity to meet new people checking us out or new members or get to know other members. If you d like to play golf with someone the next time, please email the chairman and c.c. the person you d like to play with. IF you both have agreed and want to be paired together, the chairman will pair you two together! ALL of the Board Members are considered Ambassadors for the club and they will be paired with new or prospective members. This year I am emphasizing the pairings are with people close to their age group i.e. the 40 s people to be paired with others closest 40 s people or 50 s. It makes no sense and turns new people off to be paired with someone who is not even close to their age group. Tell your friends that the EXPO is the best time to join the club as they will receive a new member discount of $20 off their membership! See you at the DEN- VER GOLF EXPO 2018! ~Jay Robin Wren, President 18-Hole Chair I hope your off season is going well and you all plan on attending the Golf Expo Feb 9-11. It's always fun to check out some of the new products that appear at the start of each new season and you might just accidentally run into some golf pals you might not have seen recently. I have been contacting the courses and working on our proposed golf schedule for the upcoming season. If you have a favorite course or have a unique one you want to share with your golfing friends be sure to contact me and I'll see what I can put together. So far we will be returning to some of our past favorites and I'm going to try to set up some new ones that we haven't visited as a group in a while. You never know what might show up on the schedule. I'm already ready for spring. How about you? ~Barb Troxel Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events) 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise - March 24-31, 2018. Sixteen people attended Bowling Night at Round 1 Entertainment Center in Southwest Plaza on Saturday January 13th for unlimited bowling and food & drinks, unlimited pool and video games, etc. for three hours. If you missed it, too bad you missed out on a great time. We ll look for similar opportunities. We had 22 people attend the Stock Show & Rodeo on Saturday January 20th, followed with a steak dinner afterward at Mickey s Steakhouse (local legend). This month s Social is on February 13th at the Old Chicago at the southeast corner of the intersection of Wadsworth and US 285 (Hampden) in south Lakewood. Come out and hear more about the following upcoming events which are already in the works for 2018: Singles Appreciation Night at the Colorado Mammoth (professional indoor lacrosse) game: Friday February 2nd @ 7:30 pm. We ve negotiated a great group package. Sign up directly with the Mammoth (i.e., you pay them, not the chapter). Super Bowl Party at Paul Masimer s house: Sunday February 4th @ 4 pm. BYOB/potluck, no cost to attend. But because the game watch is at a private residence, attendance is limited. David Feherty at the Paramount Theater on Saturday April 14th (we re still in negotiations). FYI, we didn t meet our minimum numbers for Comedian Lewis Black, also at the Paramount Theater, on Saturday April 21st. Rockies Fireworks Game on July 4th (first pitch at 6:10 pm): Hard-limited to 40 participants. Not yet open for RSVPs, in order to give new members we sign up at the Golf Expo an equal chance to tag along as well. For more information including pricing and deadlines to RSVP check out these events by visiting the Chapter s Meetup site. If you have any suggestions for future social events that you d like us to explore, bring them to the Social (or email me). I m still looking for a trusty and eager assistant Social Chair.
