Spring Freestyle Ice 2018 Registration Packet General FS Ice Schedule & Fees Registration Deadline: Monday March 5, 2018 Freestyle ice is available during the fall, winter, spring and summer seasons. Schedules vary slightly each session, depending on other programming at the Sports Center. All freestyle ice sessions are $7 per 30 minutes. All skaters must obtain a freestyle membership card from the front desk and bring the card with them to all freestyle sessions. Session swipes can be added to the membership card. Swipes cannot be shared between family members. Participants purchasing 20 or more swipes will receive a 5% discount. Discount does not apply to pre-registered sessions. Swipe cards cannot be used for purchasing pre-registered slots. Swipes can be used for walk on sessions. Partner work is not permitted on prime time ice. This includes skating in pairs for ice dance, synchronized or figure skating. The current freestyle schedule is available on Ice Chatter or by contacting the ice monitor at icemonitor@nbparks.org. Priority Registration Groups for Seasonal Ice Platinum All Northbrook Park District residents Gold Non-residents who receive private lessons from Sports Center instructors and are a participant of the Teams Elite Program or Icette Program Sports Center instructors purchasing ice for themselves or dependents & spouses Silver Non-residents who receive private lessons from Sports Center instructors Non-residents who are coached by Northbrook Park District residents Bronze Non-residents involved in any Sports Center programs General Public registering for the entire season Open Registration (After the registration deadline has passed) Miscellaneous advanced requests, additions, transfers or cancellations FS Ice Levels The following information describes the division of freestyle levels. Private lessons are allowed during all freestyle sessions but must follow the level guidelines. High: Skaters in FS 6 and above OR competing at Preliminary or above Fast paced session allowing skaters to drill their skills Strong organization and flow of skaters (Staff reserves the right to require proof of skater s level or a test with skating school director) Low: Skaters in FS 5 and below OR competing at Pre-Preliminary or below Geared toward young, beginning skaters practicing their skills alone or in a private lesson Open: All levels, all ages These sessions in combination with a high/low session can be used to lengthen practice time Not ideal for beginning skaters practicing outside of a private lesson or for those who are not comfortable being on the ice with stronger skaters

Starting/Ending Times & Associated Charges Skaters must check in prior to the session starting. Ice time will be held for 5 minutes before being re-assigned to a skater on the waitlist. Any skater arriving later than 5 minutes into the session must contact the ice monitor prior to the start of the session to maintain their slot. Sessions begin and end at strictly defined times. Utilizing a portion of any session will result in a full charge for that session. Skaters who want to remove a session from their registration must notify the ice monitor 24 hours before the start of that session. Waitlists Skaters who pre-register for prime-time ice will be added to all requested sessions unless a session has filled. Should this be the case, skaters will be added to a waitlist for each filled session that was requested. Families will be unable to view waitlist spots online. Staff will provide a list of the waitlist sessions for skaters who submitted for the lottery. Skaters on the waitlist will be contacted in the order their names are added if a spot becomes available for the requested time. If the skater makes it onto the session, charges for that session will be added to the skater s account. Payment must be made online or in person prior to the start of the session. Cash, credit cards or swipes may be used in person. Walk-On Ice A skater can walk-on to any freestyle session if a spot is available. Skaters looking to walk-on to prime time ice with an outstanding waitlist will be placed at the end of the waitlist and contacted if a spot becomes available. Skaters participating in walk on ice must have their membership pass with valid swipes or pay the per session rate. Swipes can be added to a pass online or in person. No Show Skaters Skaters who are not present after 5 minutes of their pre-registered and pre-paid ice slots and have not transferred the ice time will be considered a no show. No show sessions will not be refunded and cannot be transferred after the ice session begins. Transfer Process The Northbrook Park District staff understands the need for flexibility in a skater s schedule. If you would like to transfer a pre-paid session, the participant must contact the ice monitor (icemonitor@nbparks.org) and request to be transferred from the unwanted session and request a new session to be placed onto. A transfer must be completed 24 hours before the scheduled ice time begins, otherwise skaters will be charged. If a permanent change is made to the schedule, a skater should transfer all sessions so waitlists can be accommodated. A transfer will be completed only if there is an open spot in the newly requested session. Pre-registered ice time (prime time ice) can only be transferred to other pre-registered ice sessions. No pre-registered ice will be transferred to walk-on ice. Any transfer request that cannot be accommodated will be refunded via a swipe if the request is made 24 hours prior to the start of the purchased session. An exception will be made if a coach cancels a scheduled session. It is the skater s responsibility to transfer sessions if a lesson is rescheduled. Do not assume your coach has done so. If you do not transfer the ice, you will be responsible for all ice time fees. Payment Skaters will be invoiced for all their pre-registered sessions. Payment can be made online or in person. Payment for pre-registered sessions is due by March 26. Skaters will be removed from any unpaid sessions. Adding Sessions On March 14, all open slots on prime time ice will be available for registration online or in person. Online Account Skating families should confirm their online accounts prior to March 14. Registration staff can assist with setting up a login and password. Online options include purchasing freestyle passes, reserving prime time slots and paying account balances.

Ice Skating Program Waiver and Release Important Information The Northbrook Park District (herein collectively referred to as the District ) is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for this program must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or adequately skilled for ice-skating activities. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity. Warning of Risk Ice-skating is intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of the participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury, including but not limited to head injury, neck or back injury, wrist and ankle fractures, and other orthopedic injuries to limbs and joints. All hazards and dangers cannot be foreseen. The very nature of ice- skating is risky, including but not limited to slip and falls, colliding with other players of varying degrees of skill (including being struck from behind), tripping on irregular ice surfaces, cuts from skate blades, inadequate or defective equipment, ill-fitting skates, failure in supervision or instruction, horseplay, carelessness, poor technique, poor conditioning, rule violations, striking a stationary object, premises defects outside the rink, and all other risks inherent to the sport of ice-skating. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the District to guarantee absolute safety. Photo/Video Policy The Northbrook Park District takes photos and video of participants in classes, during special events and in the parks. By signing the waiver, you are giving permission to the District to use these photos and video in District publications and on our website and social media outlets. All photos and video are the property of the District. Waiver and Release of All Claims and Assumption of Risk Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in this program/activity, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with this program/activity (including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided). I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in this program/activity, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program/activity against the District, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees. I further agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the District harmless against any and all liability, loss, expense, including reasonable attorneys fees, or claims for injury or damages arising out of my participation (or my minor child/ward s participation) in this activity; but only in proportion to and to the extent such liability, loss, expense, attorney s fees, or claims for injury or damages are caused by or result from my or my minor child s/ward s acts(s) or omission(s). I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, photo/video policy, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims, and indemnification agreement. If registering online or via fax, my signature shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as an original form signature. PARTICIPATION WILL BE DENIED if the signature of adult participant or parent/guardian and date are not on this waiver. A signature is required for each participant 18 years or older and one signature for all minor children/dependants. Note: The Northbrook Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for its participants. The cost of such insurance would make programs cost prohibitive. We suggest that you look at your own insurance policy to be sure you are adequately covered. The Park District assumes no responsibility for personal injuries or loss of personal property.
