MULTIMEDIA Live Stats:...AStateRedWolves.com Live Video:...AStateRedWolves.com Live Audio:...TroyTrojans.com (FREE) After one game at home, Troy returns to the road this week for a pair of games, beginning with a Wednesday contest at Arkansas State. Troy and Arkansas State have started Sun Belt play in two opposite directions. The Red Wolves won at UT Arlington and Texas State to start while Troy fell at Georgia State and at home to WKU. In the 86-69 loss to WKU on Saturday, the Trojans started the game very slow and were down by 10 points before making their first field goal. The Trojans top three guards provided almost all of the scoring as Joanna Harden (25), Ashley Beverly-Kelley (20) and Brooke Bowie (18) scored all but six of Troy s points. Wednesday s game at the Convocation Center will feature the top two scorers in the Sun Belt Conference in Troy s Joanna Harden (24.8 ppg) and Arkansas State s Aundrea Gamble (18.4 ppg). Harden ranks fifth in the NCAA in scoring and has scored 20-plus in 10 games this season, including in four straight. Troy enters Wednesday s game averaging 83.2 points per game, the best in the Sun Belt, nearly 11 points better than second-place WKU (72.9 ppg). Troy has scored 80 points six times in 13 games this season, including 100 three times. Entering this week, Troy had the 16th ranked scoring offense in the NCAA. Wednesday s game is the second in a stretch where Troy plays three straight against the top three teams in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll (WKU, ASU, UALR). Troy is 3-8 all-time against Arkansas State. The Red Wolves have won the last five meetings, including two straight at the Convocation Center where Troy is 1-3 all-time. 2013-14 TROY WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES PAGE 3 Scouting the Opposition Arkansas State comes into Wednesday s game after opening Sun Belt play 2-0 on the road last week. The Red Wolves defeated UT Arlington, 66-62, then knocked off Texas State 87-71. A-State has won four of its last five with the lone loss coming at Texas A&M. The Red Wolves are playing their first home game since December 18, a win over Tennessee Tech. ASU is 3-1 at home this season with the lone loss coming to UT Martin. The Red Wolves are led by redshirt sophomore Aundra Gamble who averages 18.4 points per game, second in the league behind Joanna Harden. Gamble scored 26 with five rebounds in seven assists in Saturday s win over Texas State. Jane Morrill, who has scored more points in her career than any other active Sun Belt player, averages 11.6 points per game and is the second of four Red Wolves averaging double figures. In their 15th season under Brian Boyer, ASU was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll. The Red Wolves posted a 15-15 overall record and a 12-8 Sun Belt record a season ago, good for a second place finish in the West. The Red Wolves fell to FIU in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships. Series History Arkansas State leads the all-time series over Troy, 8-3, including wins in the last five meetings. The closest of those five meetings was a six-point loss in the conference tournament in 2009-10. The 2010-11 meeting went into overtime at Sartain Hall, but ASU won by 14 points. ASU has won the last five meetings by an average of 15 points. Troy is 1-3 all-time in Jonesboro, with the last win coming in 2009-10, also the last win in the series by Troy. All 11 meetings have come since Troy joined the Sun Belt in 2005, with nine coming in the regular season and two in the conference tournament. Last season, ASU won at Trojan Arena, 87-74, before knocking off Troy at the Convocation Center, 71-49. Troy (4-9, 0-2) was down by 10 points before a Joanna Harden jumper fell with 15:06 to go to halt an opening stretch that included seven empty possessions. WKU led by 14 at halftime after shooting over 50 percent (21-of-41) in the opening frame. Troy kept itself in the game with solid defense to open the second half, but the Trojans couldn t buy a bucket inside as multiple chances to cut the lead to single digits did not fall. Joanna Harden led the way for Troy with 25 points, including a 9-of-12 mark at the free throw line. Ashley Beverly-Kelley came off the bench for the first time this season and scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Brooke Bowie also hit four 3-pointers, tied a career high with 18 points and pulled in a team-high seven rebounds, but the rebounding effort wasn t enough for the Trojans. After getting good play from its post players in the Sun Belt opener at Georgia State, Troy s post players were outplayed by WKU s Chastity Gooch on Saturday. Gooch recorded 30 points and 16 rebounds while Troy s six post players combined for six points and 16 rebounds. Up Next The Trojans remain in Arkansas and travel to take on UALR. 2013-14 TROY WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES PAGE 5 Bowie and Trojans Top 3-Point Shooters A big part of the scoring for Troy has been the Trojans 3-point shooting thus far. Troy ranks second in the Sun Belt in 3-pointers made (6.6/g). Brooke Bowie leads the Trojans and the Sun Belt with 32 made 3-pointers (2.5/g). Her 37.2 3-point percentage ranks 10th in the Sun Belt, despite Bowie having at least 24 more attempts than all nine players ahead of her. Bowie has made a 3-pointer in every game this season, including at least two in each of the last 10 games. Bowie made just 14 3-pointers in 29 games last season, a previous career high, and entered this season shooting 24.7 percent from deep in 83 career games. Beverly-Kelley Against the SEC Sophomore guard Ashley Beverly-Kelley performed well in Troy s three games against the SEC this season. She led the Trojans in scoring against Florida (19), Tennessee (22) and Alabama (33). In those three games, Beverly-Kelley averaged 24.7 points per game, shot 54 percent (26-of-48) from the field and 19-of-24 at the free throw line. She also recorded 14 assists and six steals. In six career games against the SEC, Beverly-Kelley is averaging 16.2 points per game. Troy Defense Applying Pressure Troy is forcing an average of 22.5 turnovers per game, now second in the league after leading the way for most of the season. Troy commits 19.1 turnovers per game, giving the Trojans a +3.38 turnover margin, the third best mark in the league. Alabama State had 35 turnovers in the season opener, the most forced by Troy since Centenary had 35 turnovers in 2000-01, also in a season opener. The Trojans opened this season forcing 25-plus turnovers in three straight. It was the first time Troy had done so since 2000-01 when the Trojans did so in four straight games. Troy forced 28 turnovers at No. 3/3 Tennessee, the most by the Lady Vols this season. Troy-ASU Connections The Arkansas State does not have any Alabama natives on its roster and Troy does not have any Arkansas natives on its roster. Arkansas State assistant coach Aaron Kallhoff was an assistant coach at Trinity Valley Community College last season where he helped the Lady Cardinals to their seven national championship. Troy assistant coach Courtney Simmons was an assistant at Trinity Valley in 2011-12 when the Lady Cardinals won their sixth national championship. GENERAL INFORMATION Location... Her opening season featured many firsts as well as a five-win improvement from the previous season. In 2012-13, the Trojans opened the newly constructed Trojan Arena, and Rigby s team made a big impression early on in the new building. In just its second game in Trojan Arena, Troy defeated Furman, 118-96, marking the third most points in a game in school history. Troy went on to lead the Sun Belt in scoring for the first time in program history, averaging 70.2 points per game. The Trojans scored 80 points or more nine times during the year. Joanna Harden, who Rigby signed in her first recruiting class prior to the 2012-13 season, led the Trojans in scoring at 15.3 points per game, earning All-Sun Belt honors. Also in 2012-13, Troy picked up its first ever win over Middle Tennessee, defeating the Blue Raiders on the road in overtime in mid-february. The loss was just the third Sun Belt, home loss for Middle Tennessee in five years. Harden scored 27 points in that game and earned the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor in program history. Rigby came to Troy after seven seasons as the head coach at Pensacola State, including a state championship and Final Four trip in each of her last two seasons. She led the Pirates to a combined 64-6 record over the last two seasons with two trips to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Final Four; the Pirates were victorious in third-place games on both occasions. With over 20 years of head coaching experience, Rigby has been successful at every level of competition, posting a 421-173 record at the high school, two-year college and four-year college levels. She has won 16 Coach of the Year awards at the conference, district, regional and state levels, and has also won eight conference championships and four state championships, with some of her most astounding numbers coming in her seven seasons at Pensacola State. In 2010-11, she led the Pirates to an undefeated (32-0) regular season that included 20 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the national polls. The Pirates followed that up in 2011-12 with the first back-to-back state titles and Final Four appearances in school history.

Individually, Joanna Harden leads in scoring and minutes while Brooke Bowie leads in 3-pointers made. A complete list of Troy s statistical rankings is below. Four-game Road Swing Troy s Sun Belt opener at Georgia State concluded a stretch of four-straight on the road for Troy. The Trojans were winless on the road swing, losing at No. 3 Tennessee, Alabama, Savannah State and Georgia State. The four-game stretch is a part of six of seven games on the road for Troy. Troy last played four straight true road games in February 2006 with four straight Sun Belt games at New Orleans, Louisiana-Lafayette, FIU and South Alabama. Troy went 1-3 over that stretch. The Trojans played four straight away from home in 2011-12 in a stretch that included games at Maine, versus Evansville (neutral), at Auburn and at Jacksonville State. Four-game Homestand Troy s win over Evansville was the final of a four-game homestand. The Trojans went 2-2 on the homestand with wins over UAH and Evansville and losses to Jacksonville and Florida. The homestand was part of a stretch that included six of eight at home to open the season. Troy last played four straight home games in 2005-06 when Navy, South Alabama, New Orleans and Louisiana-Lafayette visited Sartain Hall. Troy went 2-2 during that homestand with wins over Navy and New Orleans. The Trojans hadn t played four straight non-conference home games since 1994-95 when Troy opened the season with Tulane, Alabama State, Georgia State and Florida A&M at Sartain Hall. Troy went 3-1 during that homestand. Season-Opening Skids Troy s win over Alabama State was its first in a season opener since defeating Austin Peay at home in 2005-06. Troy is now 15-24 all-time in season openers and 6-15 since moving to Division I in 1993-94. STATISTICAL RANKINGS (SBC thru games played 1/5, NCAA thru 1/5) TEAM NO. 2013-14 TROY WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES PAGE 7 Before the win over Alabama State, the Trojans had last won a season opener on the road in 1999-2000 when Troy traveled to UT Pan American and won, 98-90, in overtime. Troy s win over Florida A&M snapped a streak of losses in three straight home openers, with the last win coming against Longwood in 2009-10. Troy is now 26-13 all-time in home openers, including a 13-8 mark since moving to Division I in 1993-94. Trojans Picked Fourth by Sun Belt Coaches, Rigby Set for Year Two After finishing 7-24 overall a season ago and tying for 10th place in the Sun Belt overall standings, the Trojans have been picked to finish fourth in 2013-14 by SBC head coaches. Head coach Chanda Rigby enters her second season at Troy in 2013-14, with a lot of success to build off of from 2012-13, despite the Trojans 7-24 overall record. Last season Troy led the Sun Belt in scoring (70.2 ppg) and finished the season 28th in the NCAA in scoring. Troy scored over 80 points nine times, including a 118-point performance at home against Furman, the third most points in a game in school history. Troy also defeated Sun Belt champion Middle Tennessee for the first time in program history, knocking off the Blue Raiders in Murfreesboro, 74-70, in overtime. It was just the third home, Sun Belt loss for MT in the last five years. Joanna Harden scored 27 points in that game and earned the first Sun Belt Player of the Week award in program history. The Trojans closed the season on a high note, winning a Sun Belt Championships firstround game over South Alabama, 62-49. The 49 points were a season-low allowed by Troy and the win was the first in Sun Belt Championships play since 2009 for the Trojans. Fast-Paced Trojans The 2012-13 scoring numbers were a product of Rigby s signature up-tempo system. Now in her second season, Rigby isn t slowing down. The Trojans will regularly set the usual 30-second shot clock to 13 seconds during practice. Rigby has had success with the system at numerous levels, including the JUCO level where she was before coming to Troy. Rigby s last two teams at Pensacola State averaged 79.3 and 90.1 points per game. The 70.2 points Troy averaged per game last season were over 20 points better than the 49.9 points Troy averaged in 2011-12, the last season before Rigby took over. The 20.3 points per game improvement was the best in the NCAA a season ago. The Trojans play six games in November with four of them coming at home. The average 2012-13 RPI of Troy s November opponents is 262. However, Troy plays four of six December games on the road. The average 2012-13 RPI of Troy s December opponents is 155. Troy plays November road games at Alabama State and Mercer while hosting Florida A&M, Tennessee State, Alabama-Huntsville and Jacksonville. December starts with home games against NUMBERS WATCH 500 Troy is 12 wins away from the 500th win in program history. The Trojans currently have 488 wins in 38- plus seasons of women s basketball. 800 Joanna Harden enters Saturday needing two points to reach 800 career points. If Harden holds her 18.1 career scoring average throughout the season, she will surpass the 1,000-point threshold. Florida and Evansville before the Trojans travel to Tennessee, Alabama and Savannah State. Florida Visits Trojan Arena For the second straight season, an SEC team visited Trojan Arena as Florida came to town on Wednesday, December 4. Last season Alabama came to Trojan Arena and escaped with an 80-71 win. Prior to last year s game with Alabama, Troy last hosted an SEC team when Mississippi State came to Sartain Hall in 1997-98 for a season opener that Troy won, 72-69. New Look Sun Belt Conference When the calendar flips to January and Sun Belt play opens, the league will have a different look. The conference lost four teams from 2012-13 (Florida Atlantic, FIU, Middle Tennessee, North Texas), but gained three (Georgia State, Texas State, UT Arlington). The Sun Belt has maintained last year s double round-robin schedule format, meaning the Trojans will travel to each team and host each team. In 2014-15, the Sun Belt will lose one team (WKU), but gain two more (Georgia Southern, Appalachian State). 2013-14 Newcomers The Troy roster features six newcomers for the Trojans in 2013-14. Three of the newcomers enter as true freshman while three enter as juniors out of junior college. Maiga comes to Troy from Gulf Coast State where she helped the Commodores to the NJCAA Final Four a season ago. Brianna Lancaster helped Shelton State to the NJCAA Elite Eight. Ronita Garrett was an NJCAA All-American at Georgia Perimeter. Chant Lewis was an LHSAA All-State selection at Winnfield High School in Winnfield, La. Kristen Emerson was the Alabama Class 2A Player of the Year last season at Prattville Christian High School. Lauren Day was the FHSAA Class 6A Final Four MVP at Choctawhatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. International Players at Troy Bamako, Mali native Aissata Maiga is entering her first season with the Trojans in 2013-14. She is the lone international player on a roster that is no stranger to foreign players. The Trojans have had at least one international player on their roster in each of the last 10 years, dating back to 2004-05 when Rebecca Corbett (Beveridge, Australia) and Amy Lewis (Hamilton, Australia) were each freshmen. In Troy s history, 17 international players have come through the program. Thirteen of those 17 came to Troy from Australia. Other countries represented are Canada, England, Mali and the Virgin Islands. Panhandle Connection Aissata Maiga becomes the third player on the Troy roster from the NJCAA s Panhandle Conference. Rigby coached in the conference for seven years an Pensacola State and played against all three Panhandle players on the Troy roster. In addition to Maiga (Gulf Coast), Joanna Harden (Northwest Florida) and O Neal Session (Chipola) played against Rigby in the NJCAA s premier women s basketball conference.

Harden leads the Sun Belt in scoring, nearly 6.5 points ahead of second-place Aundrea Gamble (18.4 ppg) of Arkansas State. Sun Belt Active Leaders Harden s 798 career points entering this week rank eight among active Sun Belt players, which doesn t sound too impressive. However, consider that Harden has done so in 44 games, 30 fewer than anybody elase in the top 10. Harden s 18.1 per game average leads all players in the top 10. Harden has scored 20-plus 18 times in her career, tying for second among active players. Harden has played at least 30 fewer games than the two players in front of her. Harden Drops Record-Setting 52 Harden broke the Troy and Sun Belt single-game scoring records with 52 points (18-28 FG, 5-8 3FG, 11-12 FT) in a 118-103 win over UAH on Nov. 26. Entering this week, the 52 points were still the most scored in the NCAA this season, across all divisions. Harden became the 20th player in NCAA Division I history to score at least 52 in a game. Harden s 43-point Effort Harden followed up the 52-point game by scoring 43 just three games later in a 94-86 win over Evansville. Entering this week, Harden is one of just two players to score 40-plus points twice, joining Baylor s Odyssey Sims. 20-plus Scoring Games Harden has scored 20-plus in 10 of Troy s 13 games this season. She has scored in doublefigures in every game and in 14 straight dating back to 2012-13. Harden has scored in double figures in 29 of her last 30 games. Harden at the Line A lot of Harden s production has come at the free throw line where the senior is 78-of-97 this season. Harden s 78 makes and 97 attempts each lead the Sun Belt, at least 20 better than second place in both categories. Harden has been to the line at least 10 times in three straight games. She has attempted at least five free throws in all but one game this seaason. Harden is shooting 80.4 percent from the line this season. Her 79.1 career percentage would be the best in school history. Troy poses a lot of significant challenges, on the offensive end in particular. (Joanna) Harden had 52 points two games ago, which is amazing for anybody at any point in their career whether you re in junior high, high school or college. It s just amazing to be able to score that much. -- Amanda Butler, Florida head coach Troy did a good job. They came in and did what they had to do. Their people played well together. (JoAnna) Harden just flat took it to us. They broke us down and made several key baskets when they had to. -- Rick Insell, Middle Tennessee head coach In Joanna Harden, they have probably one of the most prolific scorers that we have faced to date. The Troy women s basketball team played the first five minutes without a field goal and never recovered as WKU defeated the Trojans, 86-69, at Trojan Arena on Saturday afternoon. N8 Montgomery, Ala. Dunn-Oliver Acadome TROY 77 ALABAMA STATE 67 The Trojans outlasted Alabama State, 77-67, at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The win was the first by the Trojans in a season-opener since the 2005-06 season. Three Troy starters scored in double figures led by preseason All-Sun Belt selection Joanna Harden with 12 points. Brooke Bowie scored 11 while Ashley Beverly-Kelley and Kourtney Coleman scored 10 each. Troy smothered the Hornets defensively forcing 32 turnovers, the most forced by the Trojans since Jan. 13, 2001 when Florida Atlantic committed 34 turnovers. The loss was the Trojans first in three games on the season and came just four days after Troy used a similar late run to win its home opener. Troy (2-1) forced 30 turnovers for the second time in three games, but shot just 35.1 percent (27-of-77) in a game that was close until the final minutes.
