Football clubs in the Premier League Are they doing what they should for disabled people? Easy Read
Who we are We are called the Equality and Human Rights Commission. We work to make sure that everyone is treated fairly and gets their human rights. Human rights are rights that everyone has. Like the right to work, be safe and have a family. What is this report about? The law says that football clubs must do what they can to make things easy for disabled people. 1
Football clubs should think about what disabled people need from the start. They should not wait for disabled people to tell them something is wrong. There is an information guide to help football clubs know what they must do for disabled people. 2017 Football clubs in the Premier League said they will do what this guide says by August 2017. The Premier League is a group of 20 football clubs that are doing very well. 2
But we are worried that these football clubs will not do what the law says they should. In December 2016 we wrote to all football clubs in the Premier League. We asked them what they have done to make things easy for disabled people. All football clubs wrote back to tell us what they are doing. This report tells you a bit about what is happening at the moment. 3
What should be happening?? Football clubs in the Premier League should be doing lots of things for disabled people. For example, football clubs should be making sure that: there are enough spaces in different parts of the stadium for people who use wheelchairs Telegraph there are enough seats that are easy for disabled people to get to. The seats should also have more room to sit down. For example, some people may need extra room for a guide dog. 4
Football clubs should also be making sure that: there are enough toilets that are easy for disabled people to use there is information on their website to help disabled people plan a visit it is easy for everyone to buy tickets. These are just some of the things the football clubs should be doing. 5
What we found out Different football clubs in the Premier League are doing different things. We found that most football clubs have done some good things for disabled people. For example, some football clubs are making sure that: there is information to help disabled people come to football games there are good toilets for disabled people. 6
But most football clubs need to do more. Some football clubs did not give us much information at all. We think that senior managers of football clubs should talk about making things easy for disabled people. We think this is not happening at some football clubs. Football clubs in the Premier League should: have someone working there to help make things easy for disabled people put information on their website to help disabled people plan their visit. 7
Some football clubs are not doing this. Some football clubs are building new stadiums or new parts of their stadiums. These new buildings should be very easy for disabled people to use. Telegraph 8

We will ask disabled people what they think about football clubs in the Premier League and what needs to change. 2017 By September 2017 we want all football clubs in the Premier League: to show us that they have done everything they should for disabled people or agree with us how they will do this. If not, we will look into each football club that we think is not doing what it should. 12
