AS YOU LIKE IT SAFARIS LIMITED KENYA PHOTOGRAPHIC WILDLIFE SAFARI FOR ROBERT & BIANCA GROUP Wednesday 22 nd August to Friday 7 September, 2018 Tour Leader, Vivien Prince Day 1, Wednesday 22 August Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya Arrive at JKIA and you will be met by our Kenyan guides for a 30 minutes drive off- traffic hours transfer to Nairobi Serena for check-in and overnight. Dinner at own arrangement- they have a variety of restaurants to choose from, including light snacks in the bar. Overnight at Nairobi Serena (BB) THE SERENA HOTEL, NAIROBI A Member of the Leading Hotels of the World group Nairobi Serena Hotel is a 30 minute drive away from Jomo Kenyatta International airport. Justly famed for its exceptional standards of efficiency, service and five-star hospitality, the elegantly sophisticated Nairobi Serena Hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World group and is consistently voted Best Hotel in Nairobi' by airlines and international travel magazines alike. The interior décor reflects an entirely pan-african theme featuring art and inspiration from Ethiopia, the Maghreb, West Africa and East Africa. Offering a wide range of dining experiences, The Nairobi Serena is renowned for its Mandhari' fine-dining restaurant, which is universally acknowledged as one of Kenya's finest.

Day 2, Thursday 23 August Drive to Amboseli National Park Breakfast at your hotel between 06.00 to 06.45 Hrs.Please check out of your hotel/lodge or camp the night before. At precisely 07.00 hrs depart for Amboseli National Park driving through the scenic southern part of Kenya to arrive at your lodge for lunch. We invite you for a game drive afterwards in this beautiful park, famous for its large elephant herds. Arid looking as Amboseli is, it has, historically, supported both game and the Maasai that kept their herds of cattle here. It is thanks to the waters that run off Africa's greatest mountain that the apparently dry Amboseli, Kenya's first game sanctuary is able to support its wildlife. Mount Kilimanjaro broods high over Amboseli, generally cloaked by clouds but appearing in all its snow-shrouded magnificence from time to time. The mountain now provides water for the park, wonderful views and, of course, the most glorious background for animal photography. AMBOSELI SERENA LODGE Framed against the glorious backdrop of Africa s highest mountain, the magnificently beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by miles of rolling grasslands, patrolled by vast herds of elephant, shaded by the lush, feathered-green of an acacia grove and hugging the banks of a gently flowing river, this very traditional yet supremely luxurious lodge is the safari destination of a lifetime. Nestled in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, Amboseli Serena lies beneath a corpse of giant acacia trees and beside a gently flowing natural spring. The lodge enjoys a beautiful and close view of Africa s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Inspired by local Maasai architecture, the design of the lodge is in total harmony with the environment. Each guest room conveys a distinctive Maasai Manyatta mood and is furnished with authentic African murals painted by a local artist Overnight Amboseli Serena Lodge (LDB) DAY 3, Friday, 24 August: Full day in Amboseli National Park

Another exciting day in Amboseli National Park, where we recommend that you get up early in the morning when one can experience excellent game viewing & an unprecedented view of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. We will have breakfast at 6 am, and proceed on a morning game drive at 6.30 am when the light will be perfect for photographers. We will stay out until 11 or 12 noon, paying a visit to the swamp with its magnificent wildlife present all day long; at any time able to return and simply relax at camp and take in the African wilderness. The afternoon game drive is not just anticipation of seeing the BIG FIVE, but the amazing trek of the elephants back to the hills. There is a good Maasai Village to visit here, and we can discuss the day. Meals and overnight at Amboseli Serena Lodge (LDB)

Day 4, Saturday 25 August: Nairobi We will have breakfast at 6 am, and game drive as we proceed out of the park, and head back to Nairobi. We will visit Hope Streams Academy on arrival back in Nairobi, where the children love to greet visitors with song and dance. I am always asked to make this visit at the beginning rather the end of the safari. So be it. This afternoon at 5 pm we will try to arrange to visit our baby elephants (I will be asking everyone to adopt a baby elephant in the nursery, which they can meet personally!) going to bed in their stables, at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant orphanage. We hope to fit in the visit to the Giraffe Center and Karen Blixen Museum (if you wish). These details will be discussed and decided on. You bring your bags up to the lobby to be loaded into the vehicles while we have a very early morning breakfast. Accommodation: Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, (LDB)

DAY 5, Sunday 26 August: Drive to Samburu Game Reserve As we drive north we will pass through coffee and pineapple plantations, and see flower farms, as well as many new buildings in this vastly and quickly expanding city, some are slum areas, some just colorful Africa, people, fruit stalls and second hand clothing. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the arid heart of Samburu National Reserve, Kenya, Larsen s Camp looks out over river banks where herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra come daily to drink. Larsen s is set in a rugged landscape with a stunning backdrop of jagged mountains and its own indigenous wildlife unique to the region. It is the place of the semi-nomadic Samburu people and a place of open plains and vast horizons of the African desert. Facing the river, the open-sided Dining Room allows guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river as they dine. Sip early morning or afternoon tea from the Lounge as you watch the animals and the Uaso Nyiro River. Between those adventurous game drives, you can swim in the pool, read, play games, or relax. Larsens Camp (LDB)

Day 6, Monday 27 August: Full day in Samburu Game Reserve This will be your first full day in Samburu. The Camp is situated inside the reserve which gives an opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife and bird life which has much to do with the River of Brown Water (UasoNyiro in the Samburu language), fed by rains in the far-off Aberdare ranges. Acacia trees, Doum palms and Mswaki (the toothbrush tree) provide balanced habitat for the vast variety of game. The Long-necked Gerenuk is a graceful antelope, which spends much of its time in a bi-pedal stance seeking succulence among the withered scrub, which dots this harsh terrain. Other animals commonly seen are Elephants, Lions, Cheetahs, Gerenuks, Buffalos, Grants gazelles, Dik Diks and Waterbucks. There are over 350 varieties of birds. All meals and overnight at Larsens Camp(LDB) DAY 7, Tuesday 28 August: Your last day in the Samburu Game Reserve, the awesome Table Mountain Can be viewed from the swimming pool, and with the Doum Palms surrounding; it is a truly African experience to spend time here. Overnight Larsen s Camp (LDB)

Day 8, Wednesday 29 August: Drive from Samburu Game Reserve to Sweetwaters, Ol Pejeta Ranch, Mt Kenya Region, and you may visit the Mt Kenya Safari Club Animal Orphanage en route: You will (of course) have paid you bill for any extras the night before, so we can leave in the morning and head for Mt Kenya, Dinner and overnight Sweetwaters Tented Camp (LDB) SWEETWATER S CAMP A sheltered oasis, designed to offer a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and uncompromising luxury. This tented camp is in a class of its own, situated within the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, in the Laikipia plains, with views of Mount Kenya.

The camp features thirty-nine luxury tents, each with its own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager's house of this once colonial farm, and offers both regional and international cuisine. Also within the house is the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, which centers on a blazing log fire. The Waterhole Bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, overlooks the waterhole and offers unrivalled wildlife-watching. SWEETWATERS CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY The Sweetwater s Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established with an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim: to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Over the last decade, Sweetwater s Chimpanzee Sanctuary has been compelled to keep accepting chimpanzees rescued from traumatic situations - bringing the total number of chimpanzees in the Sanctuary to 42. Many are confiscated from cramped and unnatural living conditions, and many arrive with horrific injuries sustained from abuse at the hands of humans. Here at Sweetwater s, they get a chance to start over.

Ol Pejeta is home to three of the world s last remaining three northern white rhinos, and a sanctuary for 113 critically endangered black rhinos. The Conservancy employs highly trained rhino protection squads, partners with international veterinary experts and ensures data is gathered regularly on each individual animal. Steps like these ensure we remain a role model for rhino conservation in East Africa. You will have the option to go to Mt Kenya Safari Club Animal orphanage if you wish. (For discussion). MT. KENYA SAFARI CLUB ANIMAL ORPHANAGE Overnight Sweetwaters Tented Camp (LDB) Day 9, Thursday 30 August: This is a long day drive, and we will be making a very early start. We will stop for you to stand on the Equator, and continue the drive across and down into the Great Rift Valley, where we will stay at Elementeita Serena Camp in the pristine Soysambu Conservancy. Here you will be lavished with amazing attention to detail. You will be able to enjoy an evening game drive. Very recent news is that thousands of flamingos have landed on Lake Elementeita! (this does of course vary as with all wildlife, and this is the area where Vivien lives) Elementeita Serena Camp (LDB)

Day 10, Friday 31 August A second day in Elementeita, with a choice (if you wish)to make a game drive over in Lake Nakuru National Park. On this day you may choose between staying in the Conservancy, or you could have an early breakfast and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for a game drive. In the centre of Lake Nakuru National Park lies Lake Nakuru with many birds, including Greater and Lesser Flamingos. The Acacia and Euphorbia Forests are havens for animals during the heat of the day, making an excellent game-viewing destination. You will get a chance to search for both the Black and White Rhino, the endangered Rothschild s Giraffe, Waterbuck, Rock Hyrax, a Euphorbia forest and many plains game. If we do this, I suggest we return to our camp for lunch, perhaps swim in the pool, and do another afternoon drive here. Overnight Elementeita Serena (LDB)

DAY 11, Saturday 1 September: This is another long drive day, and we will have breakfast at 6 am and depart by 6.30 am. Make sure you have paid your bar and laundry bills the night before. Drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, which is probably the most prolific wildlife area in the world. Your first 4 nights will be at an authentic Out of Africa, eco-friendly, camp, which is close to nature, and rare to find in today s world. You will be right in the middle of the Great Migration dispersal area, with the possibility of seeing Lions, may be Leopard, and Cheetah; Wildebeests and much more wildlife in the vicinity. Dinner and overnight Mara Bush Camp (Private) LDB DAY 12, Sunday 2 September: Full day in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve enjoying the diversity of the ecosystem with multiple species of wildlife and bird life. All meals and overnight at Mara Bush Camp (Private) LDB DAY 13, Monday 3 September: Full day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve Third day in Ol Kiombo region with unlimited game drives. All meals and overnight at Mara Bush Camp (private) LDB

MARA BUSH CAMP (Private Wing) Your extra special Out of Africa experience The Mara Bush Camp (Private) boasts one of the best and most spectacular locations with a hippo pool boasting over 40 hippos at any given time. It is only 05 minutes away from Ol Kiombo Airstrip in the famous Maasai Mara Reserve. It is located on the banks of the seasonal Olare Orok River. Great Migration river crossings during the July to October season are only a short drive away from the camp. With luxury tents on platforms, the Camp offers the desired exclusivity for guests who are looking for maximum privacy. Join us in the Bar / Lounge where an array of classic cocktails and sundowners await you. You will find a charging station for your camera batteries and laptops in the Photo Lounge. It is the most appropriate place to unwind and enjoy a drink while listening to the safari stories of other guests. Little Mara Bush Camp is not fenced and wildlife roams freely. Enjoy nature uninterrupted at this fantastic and most luxurious, very personalized camp.

DAY 14: Tuesday 4 September: Full day in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Anyone who wishes to visit a Maasai manyatta may perhaps do so this afternoon. Please make sure you pay your bills after dinner. Mara Bush Camp (Private LDB) DAY 15: Wednesday 5 September: Change of Location to the Mara Triangle. By now you know the routine, and to make sure your bags are ready to be taken up to Vehicles before breakfast. Help is never far away! We will have a nice breakfast, and Game drive over to the Mara Triangle for lunch. Overnight Mara Serena Lodge (LDB) MARA SERENA LODGE Perched on the saddle of a hill, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge has one of the most spectacular views imaginable across the vast plains, forests and rivers that make up the Maasai Mara one of the world s richest wildlife sanctuaries. It is on this very terrain that the annual migration takes place when the millions of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle cross the plains below, on their way to the rich grasses of the Serengeti. This is a spectacle that should be witnessed at least once in a lifetime. Secreted deep within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the ultimate safari destination. Set high on a bush-cloaked hill, embraced by arcing vistas and washed by a sea of richly rolling grasslands, it stands centre-stage to one of Africa s most dramatic wildlife arenas and has a ringside seat for the

greatest wildlife show on Earth, the legendary migration of the wildebeest. Drawing its inspiration from the traditional Maasai cultural motif of a cluster of domed, mud-colored huts encircled by a Boma of brushwood, the Mara Serena offers a rare blend of raw African splendor and sumptuous sophistication. The essentially ethnic décor also draws on a vibrant color-palette of sun-burst colors, embellished by a unique selection of Maasai art to create the look and feel of a traditional bush encampment. The lodge features individual rooms, each with their own balcony and view of eternity, a sky-blue swimming pool and a spectacular restaurant, overlooking a water hole where a fantasia of creatures collect to drink. DAY 16, Thursday 6 September : Full day in Maasai Mara Game Reserve Everything about it is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific. Including migrants, well over 450 species have been recorded, among them, 57 species of birds of prey. The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year- round. Rain, when it falls almost always chooses the late afternoon or night. Between July and October, when the great wildebeest migration is in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the sensation

is unparalleled. Maasai Mara is one of the best plains' game reserve where you can actually encounter a live Discovery Channel, a haven for viewing a congregation of all sorts of animals in a five-mile radius: A pride of lions can be spotted ready to make a run for a gazelle, a cheetah and its cub taking a nap on a rock, a pair of ostriches walking the open stretches of the savannah or a gazelle giving birth. All meals and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge (LDB) Day 17, Friday 7 September: Departure for Nairobi: On this day, You may have an easy wake-up. You will have to be out of your rooms by 10 am (you will of course be already packed and ready to go). You can just take it easy in the lodge and have a leisurely breakfast enjoying the ambiance and views. You will be driven to the airstrip, for an 11 am Safarilink flight to Nairobi, where we will be met, and taken for lunch and possibly a day room at Karen Blixen, OR I would like to invite you to Muthaiga Country Club which would be a very special last activity.
