سورة الفاتحة SURAH AL-FATIHAH Makkiyyan. - Comprised of seven (7) ayahs.. I start with the name of Allah, Who is ar-rahman and ar-rahim. 2. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, Who is ar-rahman and ar-rahim, The Owner of the Day of Judgment. We worship You and seek Your aid. Keep us guided on the Straight Path, The path of those on whom You have bestowed the Correct Religion; The path of those whose share is not punishment, and the path of those who are not astray. بسم اهلل الرمحن الرحيم )1 ) ا ح ل ح مد ل ل ه ر ب الحع ال م ني ) 2 ) الر حمح ن الر ح يم ) 3 ) م ال ك ي ح وم الد ين ) 4 ) إ ي اك ن ح عب د و إ ي اك ن ح ست ع ني ) 5 ) ا ح هد ن ا الص ر اط الحم ح ست ق يم ) 6 ) ص ر اط ال ذ ين أ نحع ح مت ع ل ح يه ح م غ حي الحم حغض وب ع ل ح يه ح م و ال الض آل ني ) 7 ) سورة النبإ AN-NABA SURAH Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of forty (40) ayahs. 2
Concerning what matter are themushriks inquisitive and arguing? Regarding the Great News ofmuhammad, And the Day of Judgment, upon which they cannot agree. Verily, the blasphemers shall soon know! Again, verily, the blasphemers shall soon know! Have We [ Allah ] not made the earth as a cradled carpet, And the mountains as stakes? And have We [ Allah ] not created you well-diversified, And made your sleep for silence and rest, And made the night silent and as a covering, And made the day useable as a means of your livelihood? بسم اهلل الرمحن الرحيم ع م ي ت س اء ل ون )1 ) ع ن الن ب إ الحع ظ يم )2 ) ال ذ ى ه ح م ف يه م حت ل ف ون )3 ) ك ال س ي ح عل م ون )4 ) ث ك ال س ي ح عل م ون )5 ) أ ل ح ن حع ل األ ح رض م ه اد ا )6 ) و ا ح ل ب ال أ ح وت اد ا )7 ) و خ ل حقن اك ح م أ حزو اج ا )8 ) و ج ع حلن ا ن ح وم ك ح م س ب ات ا )9 ) و ج ع حلن ا الل ح يل ل ب اس ا )10 ) و ج ع حلن ا الن ه ار م ع اش ا )11 ) 3
2. And have We [ Allah ] not built over you seven firm skies, و ب ن ح ين ا ف ح وق ك ح م س ح بع ا ش د اد ا )12 ). And have We [ Allah ] not created the shining sun? و ج ع حلن ا س ر اج ا و ه اج ا )13 ) 4. And do We [ Allah ] not send down from the clouds abundant water, و أ نحز لحن ا م ن الحم ح عص ر ات م اء ث ج اج ا )14 ) 15. That We [ Allah ] may produce therewith grains and plants, And orchards of dense growth? Verily, the Day of Judgment, when truth will be sorted out from vileness, is appointed as the end of the world. ل ن ح خر ج ب ه ح ب ا و ن ب ات ا )15 ) و ج ن ات أ لحف اف ا )16 ) إ ن ي ح وم الحف ح صل ك ان م يق ات ا )17 ) The Day that the Horn shall be sounded, heralding the Resurrection and Assembly; and you will come forth in crowds. ي ح وم ي حنف خ ف الص ور ف ت أحت ون أ فحو اج ا )18 ) And the sky shall be cracked and shall bear crevices, و ف ت ح ت الس م اء ف ك ان ح ت أ ب ح و اب ا )19 ) And the mountains shall be removed from their places and shall completely vanish. و س ي ر ت ا ح ل ب ال ف ك ان ح ت س ر اب ا )20 ) Surely Hell shall ambush the blasphemer and imprison him, إ ن ج ه ن م ك ان حت م ح رص اد ا )21 ) 4
It is the dwelling place for those who transgress in their Religion by blaspheming, ل لط اغ ني م آب ا )22 ) They will dwell therein perpetually, age after age. Therein they shall not taste anything cool, nor any drink Except boiling water that burns and dense puss; A severe torture fitting their ill deeds. الب ث ني ف يه ا أ حق اب ا )23 ) ال ي ذ وق ون ف يه ا ب ح رد ا و ال ش ر اب ا )24 ) إ ال مح يم ا و غ س اق ا )25 ) ج ز اء و ف اق ا )26 ) For that they disbelieved in the Day of Judgment and did not fear any account for their deeds, ح م إ ن ه ك ان وا ال ي ح رج ون ح س اب ا )27 ) And they treated Our Qur an as false. و ك ذ ب وا ب آي ات ن ا ك ذ اب ا )28 ) 29. We [ Allah ] preserved all things, punishable and rewardable, in the Guarded Tablet. و ك ل ش ح يء أ حص ح ين اه ك ت اب ا )29 ). So taste, O blasphemers, the results of your deeds; for We [ Allah ] will not grant you increase in anything, except punishment. ف ذ وق وا ف ل ح ن ن ز يد ك ح م إ ال ع ذ اب ا )30 ) Verily the righteous shall win Paradise; إ ن ل حلم ت ق ني م ف از ا )31 ) Orchards enclosed with various fruit trees, ح د ائ ق و أ حعن اب ا )32 ) 5
And maidens of the same age, و ك و اع ب أ تحر اب ا )33 ) And a cup full to the brim with pure drink. و ك أحس ا د ه اق ا )34 ) No ill words shall they hear therein, nor untruth; Recompense from their Lord, a gift of ample luxuries, From the Owner of the Heavens and the Earth and everything between, He is ar-rahman;hence, none is entitled to object. There on the Day of Judgment,Jibril and the angels will stand in ranks. None shall speak except the one who is permitted by ar- Rahman, and he will say what is right. That is the Day which is sure to come. Therefore, whosoever wills safety, let him take a straight path to be acceptable to his Lord! ال ي ح سم ع ون ف يه ا ل حغو ا و ال ك ذ اب ا )35 ) ج ز اء م ح ن ر ب ك ع ط اء ح س اب ا )36 ) ر ب الس م و ات و األ ح رض و م ا ب ح ين ه م ا الر حمح ن ال ي حل ك ون م حنه خ ط اب ا )37( ي ح وم ي ق وم الر وح و الحم الئ ك ة ص ف ا ال ي ت ك ل م ون إ ال م ح ن أ ذ ن ل ه الر حمح ن و ق ال ص و اب ا )38( ذ ل ك الحي ح وم ا ح ل ق ف م ح ن ش اء ا ت ذ إ ل ر ب ه م آب ا ) 39( 6
. Verily, We [ Allah ] have warned you of a near punishment; the Day when one will see the deeds which his hands have sent forth, and the blasphemer will say, Woe unto me! Would that I was dust. إ ن ا أ نحذ ح رن اك ح م ع ذ اب ا ق ر يب ا ي ح وم ي حنظ ر الحم ح رء م ا ق د م ح ت ي د اه و ي ق ول الحك اف ر ي ال ح يت ن ك حن ت ت ر اب ا ) 40( سورة النازعات SURAH AN-NAZI^AT Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of forty-six (46) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. I [ Allah ] adjure by the angels who wrench out the souls of the blasphemers; و الن از ع ات غ ح رق ا )1 ) 2. I [ Allah ] adjure by the angels who gently slip out the souls of the believers; والناشطات نشط ا )2 ) 3. I [ Allah ] adjure by the angels who glide back and forth on errands, managing the horizons by the orders of Allah ; و الس ا ب ات س ح بح ا )3 ) [ Allah ] adjure by the angels who race forward to Paradise with the souls of the believers; ف الس اب ق ات س ح بق ا )4 ) 7
5. I [ Allah ] adjure by the angels who manage carrying out the commands of their Lord. The day the first sounding of the Horn shall quake the mountains and Earth; Followed by the second sounding of the Horn. The hearts of the blasphemers shall be dreadfully agitated; Cast down in humiliation shall be the eyes of those blasphemers. Mockingly they say, denouncing the Resurrection: Shall we indeed return to life in the graves? 11. What! When we shall have become rotten, decayed bones? They mockingly say: Our return to life would, in that case, be a losing one! But verily, it will be but a single sounding of the Horn, When they will be brought out to the surface of the earth. [O Muhammad] has the story of Musa reached you? ف الحم د ب ر ات أ ح مر ا )5 ) ي ح وم ت ح رج ف الر اج ف ة )6 ) ت حتب ع ه ا الر اد ف ة )7 ) ق ل وب ي ح وم ئ ذ و اج ف ة )8 ) أ ب ح ص ار ه ا خ اش ع ة )9 ) ي ق ول ون أ ئ ن ا ل م ح رد ود ون ف ا ح ل اف ر ة )10 ) أ ئ ذ ا ك ن ا ع ظ ام ا ن ر ة )11 ) ق ال وا ت حلك إ ذ ا ك ر ة خ اس ر ة )12 ) ف إ ن ا ه ي ز ح جر ة و اح د ة )13 ) ف إ ذ ا ه ح م ب الس اه ر ة )14 ) ه ح ل أت اك ح د يث م وس ى )15 ) 8
Behold, his Lord did call to him in the purely blessed Valley oftuw a: [O Musa] go you to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed by committing blasphemy, And say to him, Won t you accept my call to Islam and purify you from sin? And that I guide you to worship your Lord so that you may fear Him? Then Musa showed Pharaoh the great miracles 21. But Pharaoh belied Musa and disobeyed Allah ; إ حذ ن اد اه ر ب ه ب الحو اد الحم ق د س ط و ى )16 ) ا حذه ح ب إ ل ف ح رع ح ون إ ن ه ط غ ى )17 ) ف ق ح ل ه ح ل ل ك إ ل أ حن ت ز ك ى )18 ) و أ ح هد ي ك إ ل ر ب ك ف ت ح خش ى )19 ) ف أ ر اه اح لي ة الحك ح بر ى )20 ) ف ك ذ ب و ع ص ى )21 ) Further, he turned his back on the correct belief, and strived hard in corruption, and againstmusa. ث أ حدب ر ي ح سع ى )22 ) Then he gathered his sorcerers and soldiers and made a loud proclamation, Saying, I am your Lord, most high.. But Allah did punish him for his first statement and his last one; and Allah made an example of him. ف ح ش ر ف ن اد ى )23 ) ف ق ال أ ن ا ر ب ك م ا أل حعل ى )24 ) ف أ خ ذ ه الل ه ن ك ال اح لخ ر ة و األ و ل )25 ) 9
26. Verily in this is a lesson for whosoever fears Allah. 7. What! Are you the more difficult to create, or the sky above? Allah has constructed it, He raised the sky high over earth and every one of the seven skies over the other--perfectly constructed, smooth, and without defect. Its night He endows with darkness, and its Duha (morning sun) He brings out with light. And the earth has He created before the sky, and made it suitable for habitation; He drew out from it its water and its pasture; And the mountains He has firmly fixed; A provision for you and your livestock. Therefore, when the great event of the Day of Judgment comes, The Day when man shall remember all his deeds that he had forgotten, إ ن ف ذ ل ك ل ع ح بر ة ل م ح ن ي حش ى )26 ) ء أ نحت ح م أ ش د خ حلق ا أ م الس م اء ب ن اه ا )27 ) ر ف ع س حك ه ا ف س و اه ا )28 ) و أ حغط ش ل ح يل ه ا و أ ح خر ج ض ح اه ا )29 ) و األ ح رض ب ح عد ذ ل ك د ح اه ا )30 ) أ ح خر ج م حنه ا م اء ه ا و م ح رع اه ا )31 ) و ا ح ل ب ال أ ح رس اه ا )32 ) م ت اع ا ل ك ح م و أل نحع ام ك ح م )33 ) ف إ ذ ا ج اء ت الط آم ة الحك ح بر ى )34 ) ي ح وم ي ت ذ ك ر اإل نحس ان م ا س ع ى )35 ) 10
And Hellfire shall be placed in full view for the one who sees, و ب ر ز ت ا ح ل ح يم ل م ح ن ي ر ى )36 ) Then, for the one who had transgressed by disobedience and blasphemy, ف أ م ا م ح ن ط غ ى )37 ) And had indulged in the desires of this life, and ignored preparations for the Hereafter, و ء اث ر ا ح ل ي اة الد نحي ا )38 ) The dwelling place will be Hellfire. ف إ ن ا ح ل ح يم ه ي الحم أحو ى )39 ) For the one who had attended to the fear of standing before his Lord, and had restrained himself from sins and prohibitions, و أ م ا م ح ن خ اف م ق ام ر ب ه و ن ه ى الن حفس ع ن ح ل و ى ا ) 40( The abode will be Paradise. ف إ ن ا ح ل ن ة ه ي الحم أحو ى )41 ) Mockingly, the blasphemers ofmakkah, ask you: OMuhammad When will be the appointed time of the Day of Judgment? ي ح سأ ل ون ك ع ن الس اع ة أ ي ان م ح رس اه ا )42 ) For what do they ask you, when you have not been granted such knowledge?. Allah alone knows the appointed time of the Day of Judgment. ف يم أ نحت م ح ن ذ حكر اه ا )43 ) إ ل ر ب ك م حنت ه اه ا )44 ) 11
You are but a Warner for those who fear it, and henceforth, abstain from blasphemy and transgression. The day they see it, it will be as if they lived in this world for the duration of a single evening s dusk, or a single morning s light of the sun! إ ن ا أ نحت م حنذ ر م ح ن ي حش اه ا )45 ) ك أ ن ه ح م ي ح وم ي ر ح ون ه ا ل ح ي حلب ث وا إ ال ع ش ي ة أ ح و ض ح اه ا ) 46( سورة عبس SURAH ^ABASA Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of forty-two (42) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم The Prophet frowned and turned his face away, When the blind man came to him. But O Muhammad, how could you know he might, by your words, purify himself! Or that he might receive admonition from your preaching, and the reminder might benefit him! حعم ى 2( ) ع ب س و ت و ل )1 ) أ حن ج اء ه األ و م ا ي حدر يك ل ع ل ه ي ز ك ى )3 ) أ ح و ي ذ ك ر ف ت حنف ع ه الذ حكر ى )4 ) 12
As for the one who does without the belief and Qur anbecause of one s wealth, To him do you attend! Although it is no blame on you if the blasphemer does not purify himself with Islam. But as to the one who hastened to you seeking goodness and knowledge, 9. And was fearful of Allah, Of him you were pre-occupied! After this time do not do the same, for the Qur an contains preaching and is enlightening to the creations. Therefore, whoever wills does memorize the Qur an and learn from its lessons. Enlightenments contained in books held in great honor, Dignified and kept pure and holy, Written by the hands of the copying angels, Honorable, pious, just, and obedient to Allah. أ م ا م ن ا ح ست حغ ن )5 ) ف أ نحت ل ه ت ص د ى )6 ) و م ا ع ل ح يك أ ال ي ز ك ى )7 ) و أ م ا م ح ن ج اء ك ي ح سع ى )8 ) و ه و ي حش ى )9 ) ف أ نحت ع حنه ت ل ه ى )10 ) ك ال إ ن ه ا ت حذك ر ة )11 ) ف م ح ن ش اء ذ ك ر ه )12 ) ف ص ح ف م ك ر م ة )13 ) م ح رف وع ة م ط ه ر ة )14 ) ب أ ي ح د ي س ف ر ة )15 ) ك ر ام ب ر ر ة )16 ) 13
Woe to the blasphemer! How severe is his blasphemy!!. From what material has Allah created him that made him act arrogantly?. From a sperm-drop Allah has created him and then molded him in due stages; ق ت ل ا إلنحس ان م ا أ حكف ر ه )17 ) م ح ن أ ي ش ح يء خ ل ق ه ( 18 ) م ح ن ن طحف ة خ ل ق ه ف ق د ر ه )19 ) 20. Then Allah made the path of his delivery smooth for him; ث الس ب يل ي س ر ه )20 ) 1. Then Allah causes him to die and be buried; 22. Then, when Allah wills, He will quicken him again. 23. By no means has the blasphemer fulfilled the orders of Allah.. Then, let man take lessons by looking at how Allah provided his food. For that Allah pours water abundantly from the clouds, ث أ م ات ه ف أ قحب ر ه )21 ) ث إ ذ ا ش اء أ نحش ر ه )22 ) ك ال ل م ا ي حقض م ا أ م ر ه )23 ) ف حلي حنظ ر ا إلنحس ان إ ل ط ع ام ه )24 ) أ ن ا ص ب ح بن ا الحم اء ص ب ا )25 ) 6. And Allah makes the plants split the earth as they emerge, And produces therein staple grains, ث ش ق حقن ا ا أل ح رض ش ق ا )26 ) ف أ نحب حتن ا ف يه ا ح ب ا )27 ) 14
And grapes and dates, And olive and date trees, And enclosed gardens, dense with trees, And a diversity of fruits and forages, A provision for you and your livestock. But when the second sounding of the Horn comes, heralding the Day of Judgment, On that Day man shall flee from his own brother, And from his mother and his father, And from his wife and his children: Each one of them shall be occupied by his own concerns over the concerns of others. The faces of the believers on that Day shall be beaming, Laughing and rejoicing. And the faces of the blasphemers, on that Day, will be dust-stained with sadness, و ع ن ب ا و ق حضب ا )28 ) و ز ي ح ت ون ا و ن حال )29 ) و ح د آئ ق غ حلب ا )30 ) و ف اك ه ة و أ ب ا )31 ) م ت اع ا ل ك ح م و أل نحع ام ك ح م )32 ) ف إ ذ ا ج اء ت الص آخ ة )33 ) ي ح وم ي ف ر الحم ح رء م ح ن أ خ يه )34 ) و أ م ه و أ ب يه )35 ) و ص اح ب ت ه و ب ن يه )36 ) ل ك ل ا ح مر ئ م حنه ح م ي ح وم ئ ذ ش أحن ي حغن يه )37 ) و ج وه ي ح وم ئ ذ م ح سف ر ة )38 ) ض اح ك ة م ح ست ح بش ر ة )39 ) و و ج وه ي ح وم ئ ذ ع ل ح يه ا غ ب ر ة )40 ) 15
Covered with darkness. Such will be the blasphemers, the doers of iniquity. ت ح ره ق ه ا ق ت ر ة )41 ) أ ول ئ ك ه م الحك ف ر ة الحف ج ر ة )42 ) سورة التكوير SURAH AT-TAKWIR Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of twenty-nine (29) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم When the sun loses its spacious light and darkens out; When the stars scatter and fall, losing their glitter; When the mountains are wrenched out and leveled; When the she-camels, ten months pregnant, are left untended; When the beasts are herded together for requital; When the oceans completely dry out; When the souls are paired together, each with its alike; إ ذ ا الش ح مس ك و ر حت )1 ) و إ ذ ا الن ج وم انحك د ر تح )2 ) و إ ذ ا ا ح ل ب ال س ي ر حت )3 ) و إ ذ ا الحع ش ار ع ط ل ح ت )4 ) و إ ذ ا الحو ح وش ح ش ر ح ت )5 ) و إ ذ ا الحب ح ار س ج ر ح ت )6 ) و إ ذ ا الن ف وس ز و ج ح ت )7 ) 16
When the female infant who was buried alive, is asked, For what sin was she murdered; When the journals recording deeds of men, good or bad, are spread open; When the sky is vigorously scraped; When the fire of Hell is fueled to a blazing fervid heat; و إ ذ ا الحم ح وء ود ة س ئ ل ح ت )8 ) ب أ ي ذ نحب ق ت ل ح ت )9 ) و إ ذ ا الص ح ف ن ش ر حت )10 ) و إ ذ ا الس م اء ك ش ط ح ت )11 ) و إ ذ ا ا ح ل ح يم س ع ر حت )12 ) When Paradise is brought nearer; Then, shall each soul know what it has brought forward in its journal. أ حض ر حت )14 ) و إ ذ ا ا ح ل ن ة أ حزل ف ح ت )13 ) ع ل م ح ت ن حفس م ا Verily, I swear by the receding stars, ف ال أ قحس م ب ا ح ل ن س )15 ) The planets that set and hide, And the night as it falls and disappears, And the dawn as it breathes out its light; 9. Verily, this Qur an is the Word of Allah brought down by Archangel Jibril, a most honorable messenger, ا ح ل و ار الحك ن س )16 ) و الل ح يل إ ذ ا ع ح سع س )17 ) و الص ح بح إ ذ ا ت ن ف س )18 ) إ ن ه ل ق ح ول ر س ول ك ر مي )19 ) 17
0. Supported with extreme power to carry out what Allah ordered him without any weakness or powerlessness, Obeyed by the angels of the sky and entrusted with the Revelation. And, O people of Makkah, contrary to your claim,muhammad is not insane. And surely Muhammad sawjibril in the clear eastern horizon. And surely Muhammad does not withhold any of the Revelation. The Qur an, contrary to your claim, is not the word of an accursed Satan. 26. So, where else would you go, but the Book of Allah? ذ ي ق و ة ع حند ذ ي الحع ح رش م ك ني )20 ) م ط اع ث أ م ني )21 ) و م ا ص اح ب ك ح م ب ح جن ون )22 ) و ل ق حد ر آه ب ا أل ف ق الحم ب ني )23 ) و م ا ه و ع ل ى الحغ ح يب ب ض ن ني )24 ) و م ا ه و ب ق ح ول ش ح يط ان ر ج يم )25 ) ف أ ي ح ن ت حذه ب ون )26 ) Verily, this Qur an is a preaching to all the creations; With benefit to whoever among you wills to go the straight path of becoming Muslim; إ حن ه و إ ال ذ حكر ل لحع ال م ني )27 ) ل م ح ن ش اء م حنك ح م أ حن ي ح ست ق يم )28 ) 9. But you shall not have a will except as Allah, the Owner of the Worlds, wills. و م ا ت ش اء ون إ ال أ حن ي ش اء الل ه ر ب الحع ال م ني ) 29 ) 18
سورة االنفطار SURAH AL-INFITAR Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of nineteen (19) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم When the sky is cleft asunder; إ ذ ا الس م اء انحف ط ر حت )1 ) 2. When the stars fall off their positions; و إ ذ ا الحك و اك ب انحت ث ر حت )2 ) When the oceans are flooded; When the graves are turned inside out and upside down; 5. Then shall every soul learn what obedience it has sent forward and what right of Allah it has kept back. و إ ذ ا الحب ح ار ف ج ر حت )3 ) و إ ذ ا الحق ب ور ب ح عث ر حت )4 ) ع ل م ح ت ن حفس م ا ق د م ح ت و أ خ ر حت )5 ) O blasphemer man! What has seduced and cheated you to turn away from your generous Lord? The One Who created you--fashioned you proportionately and harmoniously; Your Lord has created you in the form conforming to His Eternal Will. 19 ي اأ ي ه ا اإل نحس ان م ا غ ر ك ب ر ب ك الحك ر مي )6 ) ال ذ ي خ ل ق ك ف س و اك ف ع د ل ك )7 ) ف أ ي ص ور ة م ا ش اء ر ك ب ك )8 )
No! But you indeed deny the Day of Judgment! كال ب ح ل ت ك ذ ب ون ب الد ين )9 ) Appointed over you are angels who document your doings and sayings, Generously honorable angels that write down your deeds. They know all your doings, evil or good. As for the meritorious they are in a bliss. And the doers of iniquities (blasphemers) shall be in the fire of Hell, Which they will enter and suffer on the Day of Judgment, و إ ن ع ل ح يك ح م ل اف ظ ني )10 ) ك ر ام ا ك ات ب ني )11 ) ي ح عل م ون م ا ت حفع ل ون )12 ) إ ن احأل ب ح ر ار ل ف ي ن ع يم )13 ) و إ ن الحف ج ار ل ف ي ج ح يم )14 ) ي ح صل ح ون ه ا ي ح وم الد ين )15 ) And from there they will not be able to leave. و م ا ه ح م ع حنه ا ب غ ائ ب ني )16 ) O what will explain to you the extent of the Day of Judgment? و م ا أ حدر اك م ا ي ح وم الد ين )17 ) Again, what will explain to you the extent of the Day of Judgment? ث م ا أ حدر اك م ا ي ح وم الد ين )18 ) 9. The Day when no soul shall be able to do aught for another. For the entire matter, that day, will be with Allah. ي ح وم ال ت حل ك ن حفس ل ن حفس ش ح يئ ا و األ ح مر ي ح وم ئ ذ ل ل ه )19( 20
سورة المطففين SURAH AL-MUTAFFIFIN Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of thirty-six (36) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم Woe to those stinting when weighing or measuring out goods. Those who, when they receive by measure from people, are keen to receive full measure, و ي ح ل ل حلم ط ف ف ني )1 ) ال ذ ين إ ذ ا ا حكت ال وا ع ل ى الن اس ي ح ست ح وف ون )2 ) But when they give by measure or weight to people, give less than what is due. و إ ذ ا ك ال وه ح م أ ح و و ز ن وه ح م ي حس ر ون )3 ) Do they not think they will be resurrected, أال ي ظ ن أ ول ئ ك أ ن ه ح م م ح بع وث ون )4 ) On a day of great importance? The Day of Judgment when all mankind shall rise to be judged by the Lord of the Worlds? ل ي ح وم ع ظ يم )5 ) ي ح وم ي ق وم الن اس ل ر ب الحع ال م ني )6 ) Nay, surely the book of the blasphemers is incarcerated insijjin. كال إ ن ك ت اب الحف ج ار ل ف ي س ج ني )7 ) And what makes you know what Sijjin is? 21 و م ا أ حدر اك م ا س ج ني )8 )
The book of the blasphemers is fully inscribed. Severe punishment that Day to those who deny, Those who deny the Day of Judgment. And none deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, the blasphemer! When our ayahs are recited to him, he says, Tales of the Ancients! ك ت اب م ح رق وم )9 ) و ي ح ل ي ح وم ئ ذ ل حلم ك ذ ب ني )10 ) ال ذ ين ي ك ذ ب ون ب ي ح وم الد ين )11 ) و م ا ي ك ذ ب ب ه إ ال ك ل م ح عت د أ ث يم )12 ) إ ذ ا ت حتل ى ع ل ح يه ء اي ات ن ا ق ال أ س اط ي ا أل و ل ني )13 ) Nay, but their hearts are rusted with the sins they do! كال ب ح ل ر ان ع ل ى ق ل و ب ح م م ا ك ان وا ي حكس ب ون )14 ) Verily, that Day, they shall be veiled from seeing their Lord. إ ن ه كال ح م ع ح ن ر ب ح م ي ح وم ئ ذ ل م حج وب ون )15 ) Thereafter, they [the blasphemers] will enter the Fire of Hell. Further, the angels will tell the blasphemers, This is the torture you denied! ث إ ن ه ح م ل ص ال و ا ح ل ح يم )16 ) ث ي ق ال ه ذ ا ال ذ ي ك حنت ح م ب ه ت ك ذ ب ون )17 ) Nay, verily the Book of the meritorious is in ^Illiyyin(Paradise). كال إ ن ك ت اب األ ب ح ر ار ل ف ي ع ل ي ني )18 ) And what makes you know what ^Illiyyin is? و م ا أ حدر اك م ا ع ل ي ون )19 ) 22
The Book of the Meritorious is fully inscribed, To which bear witness the elite angels from every sky. Truly the meritorious will be in a bliss, 3. On raised couches looking at what Allah bestowed upon them. You will recognize in their faces the glistening of bliss, 5. From the purest sealed nonintoxicating wine they shall drink, ك ت اب م ح رق وم )20 ) ي حشه د ه الحم ق ر ب ون )21 ) إ ن األ ب ح ر ار ل ف ي ن ع يم )22 ) ع ل ى ا أل ر ائ ك ي حنظ ر ون )23 ) ت ح عر ف ف و ج وه ه ح م ن حضر ة الن ع يم )24 ) ي ح سق ح ون م ح ن ر ح يق م حت وم )25 ) Sealed with musk, and for this let the aspirants aspire, Mixed with it a drink fromtasnim: A spring in Paradise, from which shall drink the best and the meritorious. Those who blasphemed used to laugh at those who believed, And whenever they passed them by, they winked at one another in mockery; And when they returned to their families, they returned in a jest; ح سك و ف خ ت ام ه م ذ ل ك ف حلي ت ن اف س الحم ت ن اف س و ن ) 26( و م ز اج ه م ح ن ت ح سن يم )27 ) ع ح ين ا ي حشر ب ب ا الحم ق ر ب ون )28 ) إ ن ال ذ ين أ ح جر م وا ك ان وا م ن ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا ي ت غ ام ز ون 30( ) ي حضح ك ون )29 ) و إ ذ ا م ر وا ب ح م و إ ذ ا انحق ل ب وا إ ل أ ح هل ه م انحق ل ب وا ف ك ه ني )31 ) 23
32. And whenever they saw the believers, they would say, These are the people truly astray! But, they had not been sent as record keepers of the believers deeds! Indeed, on this Day the believers will reciprocate and laugh at the blasphemers, They will be raised on couches in Paradise watching the blasphemers in castigation. By rewarding the believers on this Day of Judgment, will have not the blasphemers been paid back for their mockery of the believers? و إ ذ ا ر أ ح وه ح م ق ال وا إ ن ه ؤ الء ل ض ال ون )32 ) و م ا أ ح رس ل وا ع ل ح يه ح م ح اف ظ ني )33 ) ف الحي ح وم ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا م ن الحك ف ار ي حضح ك ون )34 ) ع ل ى األ ر ائ ك ي حنظ ر ون )35 ) ه ح ل ث و ب الحك ف ار م ا ك ان وا ي حفع ل ون ) 36 ) سورة اإلنشقاق SURAH AL-INSHIQAQ Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of twenty-five (25) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم When the sky is cleft asunder from the clouds, إ ذ ا الس م اء انحش ق ح ت )1 ) 24
And hearkens and submits to the command of its Lord; and it is capable of it. و أ ذ ن ح ت ل ر ب ه ا و ح ق ح ت )2 ) And when the Earth is flattened out for the assembly, And brings out and gives up the dead in it, And hearkens and submits to the command of its Lord, and it is capable of it. O son of Adam! You shall travail and toil toward meeting the judgment of your Lord, and the result of your deeds you shall face. Then, he who is given his record in his right hand, و إ ذ ا ا أل ح رض م د حت )3 ) و أ لحق ح ت م ا ف يه ا و ت ل ح ت )4 ) و أ ذ ن ح ت ل ر ب ه ا و ح ق ح ت )5 ) ي اأ ي ه ا اإلنحس ان إ ن كك اد ح إ ل ر ب ك ك حدح ا ف م الق يه 6( ) ف أ م ا م ح ن أ و ت ك ت اب ه ب ي م ين ه )7 ) Soon he shall be presented with his deeds with ease, ف س ح وف ي اس ب ح س اب ا ي س ي ا )8 ) And he will turn to his wives in Paradise joyfully! But the one who is given his record behind his back, Soon he will cry for perdition, And he will burn in a fervid Fire. و ي حنق ل ب إ ل أ ح هل ه م ح سر ور ا )9 ) و أ م ا م ح ن أ و ت ك ت اب ه و ر اء ظ ح هر ه )10 ) ف س ح وف ي حدع و ث ب ور ا )11 ) و ي ح صل ى س ع ي ا )12 ) 25
In this world, such blasphemer used to turn to his wives joyfully! 14. He thought he shall not return to Allah, for he denied the Day of Judgment! Nay, he shall return, for his Lord was Ever-Knowing of all his matters! Indeed I do adjure by the dusk; And by the night and what it conceals; And by the moon in her fullness. O people, you shall surely undergo hardships, one stage after the other. فال إ ن ه ك ان ف أ ح هل ه م ح سر ور ا )13 ) إ ن ه ظ ن أ حن ل ح ن ي ور )14 ) ب ل ى إ ن ر ب ه ك ان ب ه ب ص ي ا )15 ) أ قحس م ب الش ف ق )16 ) و الل ح يل و م ا و س ق )17 ) و الحق م ر إ ذ ا ات س ق )18 ) ل ت ح رك ب ط ب ق ا ع ح ن ط ب ق )19 ) What then is the matter with the blasphemers of Makkah that they do not believe? ال ف م ا ل ح م ي حؤم ن ون )20 ) And when the Qur an is recited to them, they do not submit and humble themselves in prostration, و إ ذ ا ق ر ئ ع ل ح يه م الحق ح رء ان ي ح سج د ون )21 ) ال Rather, the blasphemers beliemuhammad, the Qur an, and the Resurrection. 3. But Allah has full knowledge of the sins and lies they conceal in their chests. ب ل ال ذ ين ك ف ر وا ي ك ذ ب ون )22 ) و الل ه أ حعل م ب ا ي وع ون )23 ) 26
So announce to them the news of severe torture, Except to those who believed and performed the good deeds; they shall have full reward. إال ف ب ش ح ره ح م ب ع ذ اب أ ل يم )24 ) ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا و ع م ل وا الص ا ل ات ل ح م أ ح جر غ ح ي ر م حن ون ) 25 ) سورة البروج SURAH AL-BURUJ Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of twenty-two (22) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم. I ( Allah ) adjure by the sky, and its constellations. و الس م اء ذ ات الحب ر وج )1 ) And by the promised Day of Judgment, And by the witness and the witnessed; Damned are the ditchers of the ditch of fire, The fueled blazing fire. They sat over against the fire, Witnessing the believers persevere what they have done to them. و الحي ح وم الحم ح وع ود )2 ) و ش اه د و م حشه ود )3 ) ق ت ل أ ح صح اب ا أل ح خد ود )4 ) الن ار ذ ات الحو ق ود )5 ) إ ح ذ ه ح م ع ل ح يه ا ق ع ود )6 ) و ه ح م ع ل ى م ا ي حفع ل ون ب الحم حؤم ن ني ش ه ود ( 7 ) 27
. They denounced them for no reason other than that they believed in Allah, the Undefeated and Comprehensively Praised! و م ا ن ق م وا م حنه ح م إ ال أ ح ن ي حؤم ن وا ب الل ه الحع ز يز ا ح ل م ي د ) 8( Allah, the Creator and Owner of the skies and the Earth, Who witnesses all what they have done. Those that burnt and tortured the believers, men and women, and then did not repent from their blasphemy and doings, will have the chastisement of Hell and the torture of burning in Fire. Those that believe and do righteous deeds will be rewarded with Paradise, beneath which rivers flow. Such is the great triumph!. Allah s torture of the unjust ill-doers is severe. He is the One Who started their creation, and will recreate them again. He is amply Forgiving, and abundantly kind to the believers, Lord of the ^Arsh (Ceiling of Paradise), of ultimate Glory, He does all what He wills. ال ذ ي ل ه م حلك الس م و ات و األ ح رض و الل ه ع ل ىك ل ش ح يء ش ه يد )9 ) إ ن ال ذ ين ف ت ن وا الحم حؤم ن ني و الحم حؤم ن ات ث ل ح ي ت وب وا ف ل ه ح م ع ذ اب ج ه ن م و ل ح م ع ذ اب ا ح ل ر يق )10 ) إ ن ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا و ع م ل وا الص ا ل ات ل ح م ج ن ات ت حر ي م ح ن ت حت ه ا األنحه ار ذ ل ك الحف ح وز الحك ب ي )11 ) إ ن ب طحش ر ب ك ل ش د يد )12 ) إ ن ه ه و ي ح بد ئ و ي ع يد )13 ) و ه و الحغ ف ور الحو د ود )14 ) ذ و الحع ح رش الحم ج يد )15 ) ف ع ال ل م ا ي ر يد )16 ) 28
Has not the news reached you O Muhammad, of the previous forces; Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? Yet, the blasphemers ofmakkah reject to believe in you and the Qur an. 0. But Allah knows all that which they do. Indeed, this is a gloriousqur an, Inscribed in a Guarded Tablet. ه ح ل أ ت اك ح د يث ا ح ل ن ود ( 17 ) ف ح رع ح ون و ث ود )18 ) ب ل ال ذ ين ك ف ر وا ف ت حكذ يب )19 ) و الل ه م ح ن و ر ائ ه ح م م يط )20 ) ب ح ل ه و ق ح رء ان م يد )21 ) ف ل ح وح م حف وظ )22 ) سورة الطارق SURAH AT-TARIQ Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of seventeen (17) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم. I ( Allah ) adjure by the sky and the star, ) 1( و الس م اء و الط ار ق And O Muhammad, what will make you know what the star is? t is the star with the most brilliant light; There is no soul but has an angel protecting it. 29 و م ا أ حدر اك م ا الط ار ق )2 ) الن ح جم الث اق ب )3 ) إ حن ك ل ن حفس ل م ا ع ل ح يه ا ح اف ظ )4 )
But let man think pensively from what he is created! Man is created from spurting joined seminal fluids, Fluid that comes from the male s backbone and the female s ribs.. Allah has the power to quicken man after his death! The Day that ones concealed convictions, doings, and intentions will be exposed, ف حلي حنظ ر ا إلنحس ان م م خ ل ق )5 ) خ ل ق م ح ن م اء د اف ق )6 ) ي حر ج م ح ن ب حني الص لحب و الت ر ائ ب )7 ) إ ن ه ع ل ى ر ح جع ه ل ق اد ر )8 ) ي ح وم ت ح بل ى الس ر ائ ر )9 ). Man will have no power or helper to prevent him from the torture of Allah ال ن اص ر )10 ) ف م ا ل ه م ح ن ق و ة و. 1. I ( Allah ) adjure by the sky which gives rain after rain, و الس م اء ذ ات الر ح جع )11 ) And by the Earth which cracks open with sprouting vegetation, This Qur an distinguishes good from evil. It is not revealed for amusement, rather it is serious. The blasphemers of Makkahare scheming a scheme, و ا أل ح رض ذ ا ت الص حدع )12 ) إ ن ه ل ق ح ول ف ح صل )13 ) و م ا ه و ب اح ل ح زل )14 ) إ ن ه ح م ي ك يد ون ك ح يد ا )15 ) 30
And I ( Allah ) shall lead them to their punishment without them knowing. و أ ك يد ك ح يد ا )16 ) O Muhammad, wait a little for the punishment of the blasphemers and do not be hasty. ف م ه ل الحك اف ر ين أ ح مه حله ح م ر و ي ح د ا )17 ) سورة األعلى SURAH AL-A^LA Makkiyyan by consensus, as per Ibn Jawziyy. Comprised of nineteen (19) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم Say, I clear My Lord, the highest in status, from all non-befitting attributes. س ب ح ا ح سم ر ب ك األ حعل ى )1 ) The One Who created everything in orderly proportion. And the One Who pre-destined the ending of man, and guided the livestock to their meadows. ) 2( ) 3( ال ذ ي خ ل ق ف س و ى و ال ذ ي ق د ر ف ه د ى And the One Who brings out the vegetation in the pastures. و ال ذ ي أ ح خر ج الحم ح رع ى )4 ) And then He makes it dry and dark in color. ف ج ع ل ه غ ث اء أ حو ى )5 ) 31
We shall guarantee that you memorize the Qur an and do not forget it, ت حنس ى س ن حقر ئ ك ف ال )6 ) Except for what Allah willed. For He knows what is manifest of sayings and doings, and what is hidden. ) 7( إال م ا ش اء الل ه إ ن ه ي ح عل م ا ح ل ح هر و م ا ي حف ى We shall facilitate for you the good doings and sayings, and prescribe for you an easy and straight path. و ن ي س ر ك ل حلي ح سر ى )8 ) So use the Qur an to admonish the people of Makkah, if the admonition benefits them. ف ذ ك ح ر إ حن ن ف ع ت الذ حكر ى )9 ) 0. The one who fears Allah shall heed what the Qur an says. س ي ذ ك ر م ح ن ي حش ى )10 ) But the one who will die as a blasphemer shall avoid and distance oneself from heeding, حشق ى و ي ت ج ن ب ه ا األ )11 ) 12. The one who will enter the Great Fire, ال ذ ي ي ح صل ى الن ار الحك ح بر ى )12 ) In which he will never die nor live comfortably. ) 13( ي ح ي ا ي وت ف يه ا وال ال ث But he will triumph who, with belief, purifies himself from blasphemy, ق حد أ فحل ح م ح ن ت ز ك ى )14 ). And remembers the Oneness of Allah and prays. و ذ ك ر ا ح سم ر ب ه ف ص ل ى )15 ) 32
Nay, you blasphemers prefer the life of this world. ب ح ل ت حؤث ر ون ا ح ل ي اة )16 ) الد نحي ا For the believers, Paradise is better and more enduring. خ ر ة خ ح ير و أ ب ح ق ى و ل ا )17 ) And this triumph is in the Books of the earliest Revelations. إ ن ه ذ ا ل ف ي الص ح ف ا أل و ل )18 ) The Books revealed to Ibrahimand Musa. ص ح ف إ ب ح ر اه يم و م وس ى )19 ) 33
سورة الغاشية SURAH AL-GHASHIYAH Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of twenty-six (26) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم O Muhammad, indeed you have received the news of the Day of Judgment! ه ح ل أ ت اك ح د يث الحغ اش ي ة )1 ) The faces of the blasphemers that day will be humiliated with torture. و ج وه ي ح وم ئ ذ خ اش ع ة )2 ) The blasphemers labored hard and toiled. ن اص ب ة ع ام ل ة )3 ) They shall burn in a fervid fire. They shall drink of a spring, the fervor of which is attained. The only food for them will be dry, thorny bushes ) 6( ) 5( ت ح صل ى ن ار ا ح ام ي ة )4 ) ت ح سق ى م ح ن ع حني ء ان ي ة م ح ن ض ر ي ع ال ل ي ح س ل ح م ط ع ام إ Which will neither fatten nor satiate the hungry. ) 7( ي ح سم ن وال ال ي غح ن م ح ن ج و ع Other faces that Day will be gleaming with bliss, و ج وه ي ح وم ئ ذ ن اع م ة )8 ) Pleased with their striving in this world, ل س ح عي ه ا ر اض ي ة )9 ) 34
In a Paradise high in place and status. ف ج ن ة ع ال ي ة )10 ) Therein they will not hear a word of vanity. الغ ي ة ت ح سم ع ف يه ا ال )11 ) Therein will be running springs. Therein will be platforms raised high, Goblets placed ready for their drinking, And cushions set in rows to lean against, And spread out, luxurious carpets. Do the blasphemers of Makkahnot look at the camels how they were created? ) 17( ) 12( ) 13( ) 14( ) 15( ف يه ا ع ح ني ج ار ي ة ف يه ا س ر ر م ح رف وع ة و أ حكو اب م ح وض وع ة ) 16( و ن ار ق م ح صف وف ة و ز ر ا ب م ب ح ث وث ة أ ال ف ي نحظ ر ون إ ل اإلب ل ك ي ح ف خ ل ق ح ت And at the sky, how it is raised high, without pillars? And at the mountains, how they are fixed firm onto the earth? ) 18( ) 19( و إ ل الس م اء ك ي ح ف ر ف ع ح ت و إ ل ا ح ل ب ال ك ي ح ف ن ص ب ح ت And at the earth, how it is enlarged and spread out? و إ ل ا أل ح رض ك ي ح ف س ط ح ح ت )20 ) Therefore admonish the blasphemers, for you are the admonisher. ف ذ ك ح ر إ ن ا أ نحت م ذ ك ر )21 ) You are not ordered to fight them. ل ح ست ع ل ي ح ه ح م )22 ) ب س ي حط ر 35
23. However, the one who turns away from the belief and blasphemes, Allah shall defeat him. م ح ن ت و ل و ك ف ر إال )23 ) 24. Allah will chastise him with the everlasting mighty tortures of Hell. ف ي ع ذ ب ه الل ه )24 ) حكب ر الحع ذ اب األ 25. Indeed to Allah they shall return. إ ن إ ل ي ح ن ا إ ي اب ه ح م )25 ). Then Allah will call them to account. ث إ ن ع ل ي ح ن ا ح س اب ه ح م )26 ) سورة الفجر SURAH AL-FAJR Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of thirty (30) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. I [ Allah ] adjure by every dawn, And the Ten Nights, و الحف ح جر )1 ) و ل ي ال ع حشر )2 ) And the even and odd prayers, و الش حفع و الحو تحر )3 ) And every coming and passing away of the night. s there not in these adjurations enough evidence for those who are mindful? و الل ي ح ل إ ذ ا ي ح سر )4 ) ح جر ( 5 ) ه ح ل ف ذ ل ك ق س م ل ذ ي ح 36
O Muhammad, have you not seen what Allah has done to the people of the first ^Ad? The tribe of ^Ad of Iram who were not city dwellers, The like of which, in height and strength of its people, were not created in the entire land? And to the people of Thamudwho cut out huge rocks in the valley for their houses? And to Pharaoh of the stakes? All these transgressed and blasphemed in the lands. And piled therein mischief and blasphemy. Therefore, your Lord did pour on them severe chastisements, For your Lord is watchful over them. As for the blasphemer, when his Lord tests him by giving him endowments, he says snobbishly, My Lord has honored me. أ ل ح ت ر ك ي ح ف ف ع ل ر ب ك ب ع اد )6 ) إ ر م ذ ات الحع م اد )7 ) ال ت ل ح ي حل ح ق م ثحل ه ا ف الحب الد )8 ) و ث ود ال ذ ين ج اب وا الص ح خر ب الحو اد )9 ) و ف ح رع ح ون ذ ي األ ح وت اد )10 ) ال ذ ين ط غ ح وا ف الحب الد )11 ) ف أ حكث ر وا ف يه ا الحف س اد )12 ) ف ص ب ع ل ي ح ه ح م ر ب ك س ح وط ع ذ اب )13 ) إ ن ر ب ك ل ب الحم ح رص اد )14 ) ف أ م ا ا إلنحس ان إ ذ ا م ا اب ح ت اله ر ب ه ف أ حكر م ه و ن ع م ه ف ي ق ول ر ب أ حكر م ن )15( 37
And when his Lord tests him by impoverishing him, he says, My Lord has humiliated me! و أ م ا إ ذ ا م ا اب ح تاله ف ق د ر ع ل ي ح ه ر حزق ه ف ي ق ول ر ب أ ه ان ن )16( Nay, It is untrue. Yet you do not assist the orphan despite your richness! ال ب ل ك ال ت حكر م ون الحي ت يم )17 ) And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor! وال ح سك ني )18 ) ت اض ون ع ل ى ط ع ام الحم And you devour the inheritance of women and children, And you love money to excess, whether lawful or unlawful, and are stingy about it! و ت أحك ل ون الت ر اث أ حكال ل م ا )19 ) و ت ب ون الحم ال ح ب ا ج ا )20 ) Nay, when the Earth is repeatedly quaked until no buildings stand, كال إ ذ ا د ك ت األ ح رض د ك ا د ك ا )21 ) And when the reward of your Lord comes, and the angels of every sky line up, rank after rank, And when part of Hell is brought before the slaves and the blasphemer remembers his negligence and sins, but remembering will not help him! The blasphemer will say, I wish I had done good deeds in preparation for the eternal life! و ج اء ر ب ك و الحم ل ك ص ف ا ص ف ا )22 ) و ج يء ي ح وم ئ ذ ب ه ن م ي ح وم ئ ذ ي ت ذ ك ر ا إلنحس ان و أ ن ل ه الذ حكر ى )23( ي ق ول ي ال ي ح ت ن ق د ح مت ل ي ا ت )24 ) 38
5. For on that Day, no one will inflict a chastisement similar to what Allah inflicts, ال ف ي ح وم ئ ذ ي ع ذ ب ع ذ اب ه أ ح د )25 ) 26. And no one will shackle the blasphemers with chains as Allah will. وال ي وث ق و ث اق ه أ ح د )26 ). O you peaceful soul that accepted the preordainment of Allah, ي اأ ي ت ه ا الن حفس الحم طحم ئ ن ة )27 ) Come back to the reward of your Lord accepting the reward and accepted by the Lord, ا ح رج ع ي إ ل ر ب ك ر اض ي ة م ح رض ي ة )28 ) And then enter among the righteous of My [ Allah 's] slaves, And enter My [ Allah 's] Paradise with the most accepted worshipers of Allah. ف احدخ ل ي ف ع ب اد ي )29 ) و احدخ ل ي ج ن ت )30 ) 39
سورة البلد SURAH AL-BALAD Makkiyyan by agreement. Comprised of twenty (20) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم I [ Allah ] adjure by this city ofmakkah. لال أ قحس م ب ذ ا الحب ل د )1 ) And you, Muhammad, inhabit and aggrandize this city. And I [ Allah ] adjure by Adamand his pious offspring. ndeed we have created man into travail. Does the strong blasphemer think none has power to resurrect him and chastise him? و أ نحت ح ل ب ذ ا الحب ل د )2 ) و و ال د و م ا و ل د )3 ) ل ق حد خ ل حقن ا ا إلنحس ان ف ك ب د )4 ) أ ي ح س ب أ حن ل ح ن ي حقد ر ع ل ي ح ه أ ح د )5 ) The blasphemer says, I have abundantly squandered wealth in animosity of Muhammad. ي ق ول أ ح هل حكت م اال )6 ) ل ب د ا Does he think no one watches over him? Have We not made a pair of eyes for him to see, أ ي ح س ب أ حن ل ح ي ر ه أ ح د )7 ) أ ل ح ن حع ح ل ل ه ع ي ح ن حني )8 ) And endowed upon him a tongue and a pair of lips, و ل س ان ا و ش ف ت حني )9 ) 40
And have we not shown him the avenue of vice and avenue of virtue? و ه د ي ح ن اه الن ح جد ي ح ن )10 ) But he did not hasten to the hardships present in the path of the correct belief. فال اقحت ح م الحع ق ب ة )11 ) And what makes you know the high status of adhering to the path of the correct belief? It is freeing a slave, و م ا أ حدر اك م ا الحع ق ب ة )12 ) ف ك ر ق ب ة )13 ) Or feeding on a day of famine, أ ح و إ طحع ام ف ي ح وم ذ ي م ح سغ ب ة )14 ) An orphan who is a kin, Or an indigent lay on the ground. And therein he was among the believers who ordered one another with patience and compassion. Such people will receive their books with their right hands. ي ت يم ا ذ ا م حقر ب ة )15 ) ح سك ين ا ذ ا م تحر ب ة )16 ) أ حو م ث ك ان م ن ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا و ت و اص ح وا ب الص ح ب و ت و اص ح وا ب الحم ح رمح ة )17( أ ول ئ ك أ ح صح اب الحم ي ح م ن ة )18 ) As to those who disbelieved in the Qur an shall receive their books with their left hands. و ال ذ ين ك ف ر وا ب آي ات ن ا ه ح م أ ح صح اب الحم حشأ م ة )19 ) They shall be Locked behind the firmly shut gates of Hellfire. ع ل ي ح ه ح م ن ار م حؤص د ة )20 ) 41
سورة الشمس SURAH ASH-SHAMS Makkiyyan by agreement. Comprised of fifteen (15) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. I [ Allah ] adjure by the sun and by its light, و الش ح مس و ض ح اه ا )1 ) And the moon as it follows, و الحق م ر إ ذ ا ت اله ا )2 ) And by the day that clearly brings out the sun, و الن ه ار إ ذ ا ج اله ا )3 ) And by the night that conceals the sun, And by the sky and its Creator, ) 4( ) 5( و الل ي ح ل إ ذ ا ي غحش اه ا و الس م اء و م ا ب ن اه ا And by the Earth and the One Who expanded it, And by every soul, and the One Who gave it order and proportion. و ا أل ح رض و م ا ط ح اه ا )6 ) و ن حفس و م ا س و اه ا )7 ) 8. Allah inspired God-fearingness in the believer and iniquitousness in the blasphemer. Triumphant is the one who purifies himself with good deeds, ف أ ح ل م ه ا ف ج ور ه ا و ت حقو اه ا )8 ) ق حد أ فحل ح م ح ن ز ك اه ا )9 ) And the one who corrupts himself fails. و ق حد خ اب م ح ن د س اه ا )10 ) 42
As result of indulging in sins and transgression, the Thamud people belied their prophet. ك ذ ب ح ت ث ود ب ط غحو اه ا )11 ) For the most wicked among them hastened into slaughtering the she-camel. The Messenger of Allah, Salih,told them to beware and not to slaughter the shecamel nor bar her from having her drink. ) 13( إ ذ انحب ع ث أ حشق اه ا )12 ) ف ق ال ل ح م ر س ول الل ه ن اق ة الل ه و س حقي اه ا They belied Prophet Salih and slaughtered the she-camel, so their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled the earth on them, ف ك ذ ب وه ف ع ق ر وه ا ف د ح مد م ع ل ي ح ه ح م ر ب ه ح م ب ذ نحب ه ح م ف س و اه ا )14( And Allah does not fear its consequences ي اف ع حقب اه ا وال )15 ) سورة الليل SURAH AL-LAYL Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of twenty-one (21) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. I [ Allah ] adjure by the night that conceals what is between the sky and the Earth, And by the day as it appears with its light, And by the Creator of the male and female, و الل ح يل إ ذ ا ي حغش ى )1 ) و الن ه ار إ ذ ا ت ل ى )2 ) و م ا خ ل ق الذ ك ر و ا أل نحث ى )3 ) 43
Verily your deeds are diverse. So he who gives charity and is Godfearing, And believes in the Testification of Faith, We shall guide him and prepare him for Paradise. But he who is a miser who overlooks and thinks he does not need the reward, إ ن س ح عي ك ح م ل ش ت )4 ) ف أ م ا م ح ن أ حعط ى و ات ق ى )5 ) و ص د ق ب ا ح ل ح س ن )6 ) ف س ن ي س ر ه ل حلي ح سر ى )7 ) و أ م ا م ح ن ب ل و ا ح ست حغ ن )8 ) And disbelieved in the Testification of Faith, و ك ذ ب ب ا ح ل ح س ن )9 ) We shall prepare him for Hellfire. His wealth that he held back from spending in virtue shall not benefit him if he falls headlong into Hellfire. Verily, We have shown the path of guidance as opposed to the path of misguidance. Verily the rewards of this life and the Hereafter are for Us to give. 4. O people of Makkah, I [ Allah ] have warned you and made you dread a fervid blazing fire. ت ر د ى 11( ) ) 13( ف س ن ي س ر ه ل حلع ح سر ى )10 ) و م ا ي حغ ن ع حنه م ال ه إ ذ ا إ ن ع ل ح ين ا ل حله د ى )12 ) و إ ن ل ن ا ل آلخ ر ة و األو ل ف أ نحذ ح رت ك ح م ن ار ا ت ل ظ ى )14 ) 44
None shall everlastingly burn therein but the one who dies as a blasphemer. األ ي ح صاله ا إ ال ال حشق ى )15 ) 6. The one who belied the Prophet and turned away from believing in Allah and His Messenger. As to the God-fearing one, he shall be kept distant from it. 18. The one who spends his wealth sincerely for increased acceptance by Allah, ال ذ ي ك ذ ب و ت و ل )16 ) و س ي ج ن ب ه ا ا ألتحق ى )17 ) ال ذ ي ي حؤ ت م ال ه ي ت ز ك ى )18 ) But not to reciprocate a favor done to him by others, Rather seeking the reward from his Lord, the Exalted. و م ا أل ح د ع حند ه م حن ن ح عم ة ت حز ى )19 ) حعل ى 20( ) إال اب ح ت غ اء و ح جه ر ب ه األ And soon he shall be satisfied with his reward in Paradise. و ل س ح وف ي ح رض ى )21 ) سورة الضحى SURAH AD-DUHA Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of eleven (11) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم I [ Allah ] adjure by the morning light, و الض ح ى 1( ) 45
2. And by the night when it settles in darkness. O Muhammad, your Lord has not forsaken you nor hated you, و الل ح يل إ ذ ا س ج ى )2 ) م ا و د ع ك ر ب ك و م ا ق ل ى )3 ) And verily the Hereafter has better reward for you than this world. وآل ل خ ر ة خ ح ير ل ك م ن األ و ل )4 ) And soon, in the Hereafter, you shall be greatly rewarded and you will be well satisfied. Did not Allah know you have become an orphan and give you shelter under your uncle? و ل س ح وف ي ح عط يك ر ب ك ف ت ح رض ى )5 ) أ ل ح ي حدك ي ت يم ا ف آو ى )6 ) And He knew you had no knowledge of the Qur an and the detailed rules and Allah guided you to that knowledge. و و ج د ك ض اال ف ه د ى )7 ) And Allah knew you were in need and gave you your sufficiency. Hence do not humiliate the orphan, Nor repulse the one who asks, But spread and rehearse the bounty of your Lord. ف أ حغ ن )8 ) ت حقه ح ر )9 ) ت حنه ح ر )10 ) ال و و ج د ك ع ائ ف أ م ا الحي ت يم ف ال و أ م ا الس ائ ل ف ال و أ م ا ب ن ح عم ة ر ب ك ف ح د حث )11 ) سورة الشرح SURAH ASH-SHARH 46
Makkiyyan. Comprised of eight (8) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم Have we not expanded and enlightened your chest, OMuhammad, أ ل ح ن حشر ح ل ك ص حدر ك )1 ) 2. And removed your burden by making you impeccable, And lightened for you the back galling burdens of prophethood, ) 2( ) 3( و و ض ح عن ا ع حنك و حزر ك ال ذ ي أ نحق ض ظ ح هر ك And raised high the esteem in which you are held? و ر ف ح عن ا ل ك ذ حكر ك )4 ) So, verily, there is relief after every hardship. ف إ ن م ع الحع ح سر ي ح سر ا )5 ) Verily, there is relief after every hardship. إ ن م ع الحع ح سر ي ح سر ا )6 ) So, once you are over with it, exaggerate in supplication, ف ر حغت ف انحص ح ب ف إ ذ ا )7 ) And turn your intentions and likings to your Lord. و إ ل ر ب ك ف ا ح رغ ح ب )8 ) سورة التين SURAH AT-TIN Makkiyyan, and it was said Madiniyyan. Comprised of eight (8) ayahs. 47
بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. I [ Allah ] adjure by the fig and the olive, 2. And Mount Sinai, And this secure city of Makkah, We [ Allah ] have indeed created man in the best shape. Then We [ Allah ] do return some to the lowest situations. Except those who believe and do righteous deeds for they shall have continuous reward. After that what makes you disbelieve in the Resurrection and Day of Judgment? 8. Is not Allah the best of judges in forming all what He created? و الت ني و الز ي ح ت ون )1 ) و ط ور س ين ني )2 ) و ه ذ ا الحب ل د األ م ني )3 ) ل ق حد خ ل حقن ا ا إال إلنحس ان ف أ حس ن ت حقو مي )4 ) ث ر د حدن اه أ ح سف ل س اف ل ني )5 ) ال ذ ين ء ام ن وا و ع م ل وا الص ا ل ات ف ل ه ح م أ ح ج ر غ ح ي ر م حن ون )6( ف م ا ي ك ذ ب ك ب ح عد ب الد ين )7 ) أ ل ح يس الل ه ب أ حك م ا ح ل اك م ني )8 ) سورة العلق SURAH AL-^ALAQ Makkiyyan by consensus. Comprised of nineteen (19) ayahs. 48
بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم Read, O Muhammad, in the name of your Lord who created the creations. He created man from a blood clot. Read, and your Lord is clear of shortage and is most giving of bounty. He, Who taught man to write with a pen, He taught man what he knew not. Nay, the blasphemer transgresses all bounds in sinning, Because he saw himself wealthy, and thought it sufficient not to worship his Lord. Verily, you shall return to your Lord. Do you see the one who forbade-- Muhammad when he turned to pray? Do you see, since Muhammadhas this attribute of being guided, اقحر أح ب ا ح سم ر ب ك ال ذ ي خ ل ق )1 ) خ ل ق ا إلنحس ان م ح ن ع ل ق )2 ) اقحر أح و ر ب ك ا أل حكر م )3 ) ال ذ ي ع ل م ب الحق ل م )4 ) ع ل م ا ك ال إلنحس ان م ا ل ح ي ح عل ح م )5 ) إ ن ا إلنحس ان ل ي طحغ ى )6 ) أ حن ر آه ا ح ست حغ ن )7 ) إ ن إ ل ر ب ك الر ح جع ى )8 ) أ ر أ ي ح ت ال ذ ي ي حنه ى )9 ) ع ح بد ا إ ذ ا ص ل ى )10 ) أ ر أ ي ح ت إ حن ك ان ع ل ى اح ل د ى )11 ) 49
And enjoins God-fearingness, is not his prohibitor a loser? أ ح و أ م ر ب الت حقو ى )12 ) Do you see the one who belied the Qur an and turned away from the belief? أ ر أ ي ح ت إ حن ك ذ ب و ت و ل )13 ) Does he not know that Allah sees him and his doings? أ ل ح ي ح عل ح م ب أ ن الل ه ي ر ى )14 ) 5. Let him beware, for if he does not desist, We [ Allah ] shall drag him in humility by the forelock; ) 15( ل ئ ح ن ل ح ك ال ي حنت ه ل ن ح سف ع ح ن ب الن اص ي ة The owner of said forelock is lying and sinful. Let him then call on his tribe and companions for his support, ن اص ي ة ك اذ ب ة خ اط ئ ة )16 ) ف حلي حدع ن اد ي ه )17 ) For We [ Allah ] call the tough angels of punishment. Nay, Muhammad, heed him not. Pray, prostrate, and come close in being accepted by your Lord. س ن حدع الز ب ان ي ة )18 ) ك ال ال ت ط ح عه و ا ح سج حد و اقح ت ح ب )19 ) 50
سورة القدر SURAH AL-QADR Makkiyyan according to most scholars. Madiniyyan according to ad-dahhak and others. Comprised of five (5) ayahs. بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم 1. We [ Allah ] have indeed revealed the Qur an on the Sublime Night. ) 1( إ ن ا أ نحز لحن اه ف ل ح يل ة الحق حد ر And what will make you,muhammad, know what the Sublime Night is? و م ا أ حدر اك م ا ل ح يل ة الحق حدر )2 ) The worship on the Sublime Night is better than the worship of a thousand months. ل ح يل ة الحق حدر خ ح ير م ح ن أ لحف ش ح هر )3 ) On that night the Angels of every sky descend, including Jibril, by Allah s orders on every matter Allah decreed for the coming year. ت ن ز ل الحمالئ ك ة و الر وح ف يه ا ح ب إ حذن ر ب م أ ح مر )4( م ح ن ك ل The Sublime Night is full of peace and goodness until daybreak. ) 5( سال م ه ي ح ت م طحل ع الحف حج ر سورة البينة SURAH AL-BAYYINAH (Surah Lam Yakun) Maddiniyan according to most scholars some said Makkiyyan. Comprised of eight (8) ayahs. 51
بسم اهلل الرحمن الرحيم Those who disbelieve, among the People of the Book and among the polytheists, were not to quit their blasphemy untilmuhammad was sent with the clear evidence. ل ح ي ك ن ال ذ ين ك ف ر وا م ح ن أ ح هل الحك ت اب و الحم حشر ك ني م حنف ك ني ح ت ت أحت ي ه م الحب ي ن ة )1( 2. A messenger from Allah reciting the Qur an from memory clear from doubt and fabrication. Containing straight ayahsshowing good from evil. ر س ول م ن الل ه ي حتل و ص ح ف ا م ط هر ة )2 ) ف يه ا ك ت ب ق ي م ة )3 ) Nor did the People of the Book separate into factions until aftermuhammad was revealed as a prophet. و م ا ت ف ر ق ال ذ ين أ وت وا ج اء تحه م الحب ي ن ة )4( الحك ت اب إ ال م ح ن ب ح عد م ا Indeed they have been ordered in their Books to worship Allah alone, sincerely, on the straight path of Ibrahim andmuhammad; to perform the Obligatory Prayers, pay Zakatwhen due-- for that is the right and straight Religion. و م ا أ م ر وا إ ال ل ي ح عب د وا الل ه م حل ص ني ل ه الد ي ن ح ن ف اء و ي ق يم وا الص الة و ي حؤت وا الز ك اة و ذ ل ك د ي ن ( 5 )الحق ي م ة 52
