The Billikens are in the midst of a stretch in which they play fi ve of six games away from home. LAST TIME OUT The Billikens owned a 31-29 halftime lead and stretched the margin to fi ve points early in the second half before Oakland came back to collect a 68-60 victory Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena. Amanda Kemezys led SLU with 14 points and added nine rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Katie Paganelli had 13 points and four assists, Theresa Lisch scored 12 points and Heather King (5-of-6 FG) produced a double-double of 10 points and a game-high-tying 10 rebounds. Saint Louis earned a 44-38 rebounding advantage and out-shot Oakland 40 percent to 37 percent from the fi eld. However, Oakland was 25-of-34 from the foul line compared to the Billikens 7-of-13. COMING UP The Bills make the short trip to Boulder to take on Colorado (3-4 prior to Dec. 20 game vs. UMKC) Monday night in their fi nal game before Christmas. It will be the fi rst meeting between the Billikens and Buffaloes. SLU VS. THE MOUNTAIN WEST Saint Louis has a 0-8 record against current Mountain West Conference teams (0-7 vs. TCU, 0-1 vs. Wyoming). The Billikens fell to TCU 73-59 Dec. 6 in Berkeley, Calif. THE WYOMING SERIES The Cowgirls lead the series 1-0 after posting a 61-57 victory in St. Louis last season. In a foul-plagued game that saw the teams combine to shoot 66 free throws, Katie Paganelli led Saint Louis with 16 points. CHAIFETZ ARENA Saint Louis University s new Chaifetz (SHAY-fetz) Arena debuts this season. Saint Louis Game Notes at Wyoming, 12/20/08 2-2-2 men s and women s basketball, volleyball, commencement, cultural events, conferences and conventions. The arena houses the department of athletics offi ces as well as a practice facility for the basketball and volleyball teams, Chaifetz Pavilion. The building is named after Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, who donated a $12 million naming gift to the University. A 1975 SLU graduate, Dr. Chaifetz is chairman and CEO of ComPsych Corp. GIMME SHIMMY Shimmy Gray-Miller is in her fourth season as the Billikens head coach. Inheriting a team that won only four games during the 2004-05 campaign, her fi rst SLU squad went 7-20. However, Gray-Miller led the 2006-07 Bills to a 13-17 record that included the program s fi rst conference tournament victory since 2002, a 69-61 win over Richmond. Last season s team posted a 10-20 mark. A 1994 University of Michigan graduate, Gray-Miller is the sixth head coach in Saint Louis women s basketball history and carries a 33-64 career record. steals and two assists at Canisius had one point, four rebounds and an assist vs. Princeton tallied fi ve points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal vs. TCU had six steals, tying for the most by an A-10 player this season, and added three points, four rebounds and a team-high three assists vs. Missouri State tied for team-high scoring honors with 12 points to go along with a team-high three assists, two steals and a rebound vs. Creighton scored 11 points, tied her season high with fi ve rebounds and added two assists and a steal in a team- and season-high 37 minutes vs. Kansas tallied season highs of 14 points (5-of-5 FG, including two treys) and fi ve rebounds and added two assists and a block at Morehead State earned her fi rst collegiate start vs. Western Michigan and registered six points, two assists, one rebound and one steal scored eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and added four rebounds (three offensive), game highs of fi ve assists and three steals, and a block at Southern Illinois. LISCH CLOSING IN ON A GRAND Theresa Lisch enters the Wyoming game with 961 career points. She is attempting to become the 13th player in SLU women s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Lisch s brother, Kevin, a senior guard on the SLU men s basketball team, already has surpassed 1,000 career points. ON TARGET The Billikens are second in the Atlantic 10 Conference and No. 22 nationally (as of Dec. 15) in 3-point percentage, connecting at a 37.7-percent clip (46-of-122). Theresa Lisch is tied for sixth in the league in 3-pointers per game (2.00). LISCH THE LEADER Theresa Lisch continues to pace the A-10 in scoring with 17.2 ppg. Lisch ranks 49th nationally in that category (as of Dec. 15). She is also fi fth in the conference with an 80.7 percent (46-of-57) free-throw shooting mark. SECOND CHANCES As they were last season, the Billikens are strong on the offensive glass. Saint Louis ranks fourth in the A-10 with 14.3 offensive rebounds per game and holds a 143-115 edge (+2.8 per game) over its opponents in that category. Heather King is tied for 10th in the conference in offensive rebounding with a 2.5 average. PICKING THEIR POCKETS Janisha Gearlds is tied for ninth in the conference in steals with 1.7 per game, an average that ranks her second among A-10 freshmen. GLASS CLEANERS The Billikens are a combined +23 on the boards over their last four games, helping them build a +3.2 average through the fi rst 10 games of the season. CLIMBING THE CAREER LISTS On the SLU 3-point fi eld goals career chart, Katie Paganelli is sixth with 100 treys and Theresa Lisch is seventh with 98. Lisch has moved into fourth place in free throws made with 283, while Amanda Kemezys ranks ninth with 51 blocks. LISCH HONORED BY A-10 Atlantic 10 Conference head women s basketball coaches and media representatives voted junior guard Theresa Lisch to the 2008-09 preseason All- Conference second team. Lisch was a third-team All-Conference selection last season. The Billikens were tabbed to fi nish 10th in the upcoming league race. Saint Louis Game Notes at Wyoming, 12/20/08 3-3-3 FIT FOR A KING Senior forward Heather King produced her fourth career double-double (10 points on 5-of-6 FG, teamhigh 10 rebounds) and added two assists and a steal vs. Oakland scored two points, tied for team-high rebounding honors with six boards, tied her career best with four steals and added a block at Canisius chalked up four points, fi ve rebounds and a steal vs. Princeton scored 10 points (4-of-5 FG), secured a teamhigh eight rebounds (fi ve offensive) and had an assist vs. TCU contributed two points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals vs. Missouri State had six points, fi ve rebounds, two blocks and a steal vs. Creighton registered season highs of nine points, 11 rebounds (tied team high, eight offensive) and 31 minutes vs. Kansas, and also blocked a shot chipped in two points, three rebounds, two steals and a block at Morehead State scored four points, collected six rebounds and added a block vs. Western Michigan contributed four points on 2-of-2 shooting, two steals and one rebound at Southern Illinois. THERESA TERRIFIC Junior guard Theresa Lisch contributed 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal vs. Oakland registered a game-high seven assists, tied for team-high scoring (14 points) and rebounding (six) honors, and added a block and a steal at Canisius netted 15 points (4-of-7 from 3-point range), tied for game-high honors with four assists and added three rebounds and a steal vs. Princeton had fi ve points and fi ve rebounds vs. TCU scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed fi ve rebounds and added three steals and a block vs. Missouri State had four points, three rebounds and an assist vs. Creighton tallied team highs of 21 points and three assists vs. Kansas to go with a rebound and a steal scored a game-high 32 points (most by an A-10 player, female or male, this season), dished out a career-high eight assists and grabbed eight rebounds at Morehead State posted her fourth career double-double (20 points, game- and season-high 11 rebounds) and tacked on two assists and a steal in a game-high 37 minutes vs. Western Michigan was 4-of-7 from 3-point range in that game, including the game-winning trey with less than a second remaining scored a game-high 29 points, including a game-high and career-high-tying fi ve 3-pointers (5-of-10), and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals at Southern Illinois. and scored four points at Morehead State had two points and two rebounds vs. Western Michigan scored a season-high six points on 3-of-3 shooting and collected three rebounds at Southern Illinois.
