ROSAMOND HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING TEAM GENERAL INFORMATION 2017-2018 Dear Parent/Guardian, Your child has indicated an interest in trying out for a position on the Rosamond High School Cheerleading Team for the upcoming academic year. Because of the tremendous responsibility placed on the members of this group, this informational packet has been created to inform you of the general program details, requirements, and obligations. An additional meeting will be held after the teams have been selected to discuss details pertaining to the program and upcoming year. Please take time to read through the attached pages and discuss them with your child. If you grant permission for your child to participate in the tryouts, sign the attached forms acknowledging receipt of them and return them to RHS before or on May 31, 2017. Please make sure that all forms are clipped together (or in an envelope) and that the office knows that you are turning in cheerleading documents for Ms. Bullock. GENERAL INFO Rosamond High School, the school district, and the community endorse involvement in spirit building activities that contribute to the healthy, supportive and interactive school culture at the high school level. Rosamond High School Cheer is one of the most active groups on campus. Cheer offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, leadership and involvement in diverse activities. We currently offer two levels of participation - JV and Varsity. MISSION STATEMENT: It s Rosamond High School Cheers mission to promote school spirit, support all Rosamond High School programs, compete with excellence, uphold tradition, and to motivate and unify our student body and it s fans to display good sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Cheer provides a positive and encouraging atmosphere to participants on and off campus. We promote student responsibility, time management, cooperation and accountability for both athletic and emotional growth.

Represent the school to the highest degree by portraying a positive attitude that represents the school and program. Set an example of good behavior and sportsmanship at all times (whether in uniform or not) Promotes positive game day atmosphere by wearing our uniforms / spirit wear to school on the day of athletic events. Stay positive and energetic at all events, setting an example for student body and fans. Promote the development of lifelong values and skills. Set personal goals for the year with specific tumbling & students you may want to achieve. ELIGIBILITY Cheer team members must demonstrate a proven ability to balance academic requirements and demands with extracurricular and personal activities. Prerequisite: 2.0 GPA / Selection by a panel of judges All cheerleading candidates and parents must sign a contract stating that they agree to and are aware of the amount of time, expense, expectations, commitment and responsibility required and expected. Please read the RHS Student Handbook/Code of Conduct for athletic eligibility as they take precedence. Junior Varsity Cheer Team may consist of students entering the 9 th, 10th,and 11 th grade. Varsity Cheer Team may consist of students entering the 9 th, 10th, 11 th & 12 th grade

PARTICIPATION EXPECTATIONS Membership on the RHS Cheer Squad is a year-round commitment and will require many hours participating in practices, all football and basketball games, other sporting events, school events and expected to attend after school fundraising events as an element of participation. Students may also be required to complete assignments as deemed necessary by the Head Coach. All selected Cheer Squad members must be willing to commit to a full year as a member. Additionally, any bullying or use of tobacco, alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated in any form and will result in disciplinary action and dismissal from the team. Violation of any of the aforementioned policies will result in dismissal from the squad. Exceptions will not be made. PROGRAM COSTS In order for our outstanding program to offer the highest level of skill development and athletic training, we rely on the generous financial support of our school, community, family and friends. The amount of donations we receive determines the scope of our program. The cheer program contributions provide for cheer camp, summer camp, a uniform and warmups, coaching, training, banquet and other associated expenses. Since the components of this program are determined on secured revenue, we will not be able to maintain all aspects of the current year unless we receive donations and fundraise in a timely manner. Participation is mandatory for all cheerleaders. Again, all paperwork must be in by May 31 st, 2017 Cut and Return signed portion to Coach Bullock at tryouts. DISCIPLINE POLICY RHS (student handbook) and NFHS SPIRIT rules apply first and foremost. My Child, has my permission to be a cheerleader at RHS. I understand and agree that he/she must observe and abide by the Cheerleading Contract and the Rules and Regulations set forth. ROSAMOND HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING TRYOUT PACKET The following MUST BE turned in BEFORE you can participate in tryouts: RHS Athletic Pre-Participation Packet Current Physical Insurance Waiver and Release Form Completed Information Sheet Statement of Permission and Agreement Cheerleading Handbook Agreement Note: The deadline for turning in this paperwork is May 31 st ; however, the earlier you can get this paperwork in, the better. Participation in cheer try-outs will be prohibited if any of the forms are missing or incomplete. CHEERLEADING TRYOUT DATES: Try-outs will be held on June 5 th 7 th from 12:00-2:00 am. Tryout material will be taught during this time. Official tryouts will take place on June 8 th from 12:00 pm until completed Cheerleaders must attend all 4 days of tryouts Selection of the cheerleaders will be based on the following: A cheer and/or chant, and dance that will be taught to you during the clinic. Jumps (A toe touch, a side herkie, and a front hurdler are required- descriptions and pictures of these jumps can be found on the UCA website. Kicks- Right and left Athleticism and Performance ability Scholastic achievement and eligibility Conduct Attitude, initiative, teamwork, leadership, work ethic, enthusiasm, and coachability Ø It is okay if you have little to no formal cheerleading or dance experience. If you show potential, are coachable, and have a great attitude you still have the possibility of making a team. Come out and try your best! If nothing else is will be a great experience and show you what you need to work on for next time J Judges scores and tryout results are final.

What do you wear to tryouts? o o o During clinic days please wear comfortable, length appropriate shorts, leggings and a t-shirt or tank top. Dress as if you would dress for cheerleading practice. Shorts should be three inches long. Sports bras must be worn. No basketball shorts or pajamas. No denim shorts, jewelry, or artificial nails. Your hair should also be off your shoulders. On official try-out day, you will need to wear shorts and a solid color t-shirt or tank top. It is okay to decorate your shirt. Your hair should be off your shoulders, and no jewelry should be worn or artificial nails. Hair Bows are okay. Please do not wear any previous cheerleading or dance attire during tryout week. Try-outs are closed to family and friends. This is for safety and also so they are not distracted. No videotaping of routines will be allowed. This will give everyone the same advantage. Please be on time for tryouts. Come prepared with a water bottle. ROSAMOND HIGH CHEERLEADING TEAM PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT 2017-2018 Statement of Permission and Agreement If you make the cheerleading squad, realize that you are making a commitment to Rosamond High School, your coaches, your teammates, and yourself for the complete season. The decision to tryout should not be taken lightly. You will be expected to put cheerleading as one of your top priorities. Furthermore, as a representative of RHS, you must maintain proper behavior at all times. You must follow the cheerleading guidelines set forth in the Rosamond High School Cheerleading Constitution. Students who break the rules will be disciplined. By making this commitment to the Rosamond High School Cheerleading program, you will receive many valuable and rewarding educational experiences that you will remember long after you graduate from high school. These activities will not only channel your enthusiasm and spirit in a constructive and beneficial manner, but will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment in being a part of a group that has earned the reputation as one of the finest Kern County has ever seen.
