Athlete Performance Pathway 2016-2017

Swim Ulster is pleased to publish the Swim Ulster Athlete Performance Pathway for 2016-2017. The Swim Ulster Pathway Programme underpins the Swim Ireland framework to provide a pathway for success at international level. The general objectives of the Ulster Squad Programme are as follows: To provide support to swimmers who have been selected for the Ulster Performance Squad, Ulster Regional Squad or Swim Ulster Academy To identify, monitor and develop the attributes and skills required to become successful at senior international level Eligibility for the Performance Pathway Swimmers achieving the following criteria will be considered by the Ulster Squad Management Committee for selection to the Ulster Squad Programme: Achieve the published performance criteria for selection Athletes must be registered with a Swim Ulster club and be eligible to represent Ireland or Northern Ireland Swimmers are required to submit a claim form online and fully commit to their club programme and squad programme outlined Athlete Performance Pathway 2016-2017 03

Term of Membership Athlete Performance Pathway Athletes will be selected to the Ulster Squad Programme for a period of one year from 1 September each season based on their performances at the designated meets from 1 January to 31 August of that year. A review will be conducted following the conclusion of the designated meets throughout the season, at which time, additional athletes may be added to the squad for the period to the end of August if they achieve the qualifying time for next age band. Ulster Performance Squad Selection is determined through qualification standards based on the National Squad Standards from 2015-2016 for female athletes aged 13 & over and male athletes 14 & over (age up 31 December 2016). Para-Swimming athletes on the British or Irish Paralympic Pathways will be invited to participate by agreement with the programme Head Coach and their Club Coach. Additional criteria may be set for selection for a team travelling to a UK or European competition. Upon selection to the Performance Squad athletes will be invited to attend various clinics, camps, workshops and competitions. Athletes can also access additional training and support through weekly sessions at Bangor Aurora. Ulster Regional Squad and Regional Disability Squad Selection is determined through qualification standards based on the National Squad Standards from 2015-2016 plus 5% for female athletes aged 13 & over and male athletes 14 & over (age up 31 December 2016). The qualification standards for the Regional Disability Squad are based on 250 IPC points. Swim Ulster will liaise with Paralympics Ireland to align with their Development Squad and to select athletes for National Classification. Additional criteria may be set for selection for a team travelling to a UK or European competition. Upon selection to the Regional Squad athletes will be invited to attend various clinics, camps, workshops and competitions. Athletes can also access additional training and support through weekly sessions at Bangor Aurora. Swim Ulster Academy This is a new additional to the Swim Ulster Performance Pathway and aims to provide female swimmers aged 11-12 and male swimmers aged 12-13 (age as of 31st December 2016) the opportunity to develop technical areas of competitive swimming and to increase their understanding of necessary skills and behaviours required to be successful in international swimming. Selection onto the Swim Ulster Academy is determined by annual long course rankings between 1st January and 31st August 2016. Swimmers ranked in the top 6 of the m Individual Medley plus top 3 in all other Olympic events per individual age group (male 12 and 13, female 11 and 12). Selection of Para-Swimmers to the Academy will be based on current performance level, potential to improve, and technical ability.
