THE inside pitch WEEK 1 VETERANS OCT. 30 th 1 Twin Teammates... 'It's the Camaraderie' BY GLENN MILLER Roy Hobbs Baseball These twins aren t from Minnesota. And they re not Twins with a capital T like a certain professional team from a Midwest state. But Tim and Jim Trojan are twins and they play baseball and they re from another Midwest state. Tim and Jim, who turn 51 on Nov. 26, play for the Chicago North Redhawks. Before Sunday morning s game against Jersey Shore Baseball at PDC 2 the twins took time to talk baseball. Did they have nicknames when they were growing up in Chicago? Well, sort of. Some you can t really print, Tim said. They played Little League together and then later at Notre Dame High School Photo By: Meg Giffen Tim and Jim Trojan, Chicago North Redhawks. for Boys in Chicago. The school is now known as Notre Dame College Prep. Then they drifted away from the game. I probably stopped playing hardball after high school and I didn t pick it up again until 2006, Tim said. Jim was away from the game even longer, not returning until a couple of years ago. After taking the last 30 years off it was an adjustment See Twin Teammates, page 4 John Conlan turned 75 recently and has not missed a Windy City Warriors game at the Roy Hobbs World Series, giving him a string of more than 10 years attending the RHWS. In honor of his 75th birthday, John (right) threw out the first pitch before the Warriors game with the Fort Myers Brewers at City of Palms Stadium Sunday evening. Catching him was his son John Conlan II. Now perhaps Photo By: Meg Giffen it s time for John to sign up as a free agent for the Forever Young Division, which commences play on Sunday. Sunday's postponed games will be played Wednesday Saturday s saturating rain led to the postponement of 7 Sunday games; 6 in the morning and 1 night game at Hammond Stadium at CenturyLink Complex. Those 7 games will be played Wednesday when all teams are to play their 5th pool game. For the teams in those postponed games, they will be playing a double-header on Wednesday. All of the morning games involved teams scheduled to play at 2 p.m., and those games were played. Parts of Lee County received more than 3 inches of rain Saturday afternoon thru Sunday morning. Both JetBlue Stadium and Hammond Stadium were not used Sunday, along with Field 2 at Terry Park and Field 5 at JetBlue Complex, as those fields simply did not dry Sponsor of the Day: The Shell Factory See Rainout Games, page 8
2 Roy Hobbs requirement is that all pitchers who will be starters or closers in save situations (3-run or less difference in the 8 th and 9 th innings) qualify for the playoffs by pitching at least 2 innings 6 outs or 10 hitters during pool play. AAAA qualifier teams may not add pitchers to their lineup after Pool Play concludes; however, Open Division teams may have pitchers arrive Wednesday those pitchers much throw 5 innings or 25 hitters to qualify for the playoffs. Finally, in the playoffs, those non-qualified middle-inning pitchers will come to the mound from their normal defensive positions where they started the game. That is as important as the spirit of the rule that these non-qualified pitchers who are used as inning-eaters are players who ordinarily are playing other positions. And, please remember that any players leaving the RHWS today (Monday) to return on Thursday MUST turn in their player ID Card and re-register upon their return. They must return before the quarterfinals of the playoffs, regardless of division. Managers should email a list of their qualified pitchers to Roy Hobbs in case of rg@royhobbs.com by 7 p.m. the night before their playoffs begin. NOTEBOOK Roy Hobbs playoff pitching requirements outlined Game Highlights Roy Hobbs will publish your game highlights in the daily Inside Pitch; however, teams need to supply those highlights. Away from baseball they ve pursued different careers. Tim said he designs plastic injection molds, which means he works with products such as shampoo bottles and toothbrushes. Jim work for AT&T on its fiber optic network. What brought the twins back to baseball is more than the game. It s camaraderie. I ve always played sports my whole life, Tim said. I just like to feel part of a team. To make the whole better. You want to pick up the other guy so if you fall down somebody else is going to pick you up. Redhawks manager Dave Parker likes what the twins bring. Tim is one of the guys I trust most defensively, Parker said of Tim, who most often plays centerfield and also some shortstop. I trust him implicitly at those positions, Parker said. Jim, after 30 years away from baseball, is still transitioning back to it. Each player is part of the soul of the Redhawks, who meet after each game for what they call the circle of trust. Tennessee Dirtbags Russ Pyles makes solid contact vs. the Chicago Giants.

With 83 in 2016, there were only 2 open field times, so we survived with no rain! With 85, there is no fudge factor on scheduling at all, and we may need to grab a HS field to get 2-3 games played to make it work with 85 teams until we get to Friday. Picking up T-Shirts The tournament T-shirt is available through Friday only for all registered players outside the Roy Hobbs Store in the screened in patio at the Player Development Complex. No Shirts will be given out on Thursdays or Saturdays. Hours to pick up the Tournament T-shirt are from Noon to 6 p.m. With the shirt, each player will get a tournament patch. Players will need their RHWS ID card to get their shirts, no exceptions No drivers licenses needed. 8 Rainout Games well enough to risk damage from game wear and tear. No JetBlue and Centurylink fields were playable at 10 a.m. Sunday, and 9 games were lost. Three of those games were rescheduled for later Sunday on fields at Terry Park as they dried out. Roy Hobbs Baseball wants to thank the grounds crews at all of the facilities for their work to make as many fields playable as possible on Sunday 35 games were scheduled Sunday; 28 were played. In the rescheduling on Wednesday, every effort will be made to restore stadium games to those teams who lost Stadium games on Sunday. The Wednesday schedule will be completed following the completion of Tuesday s day games. Roy Hobbs goal is to have that schedule loaded on royhobbs.com and on the rainout weather line by 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
