Advancement to State Finals Under the two region format and splitting Division 1 into a separate regional event, the initial expectation is the Top 3 teams in each problem bracket will advance. This assumes that the number of teams participating in each problem across each region would be somewhat equivalent. Adjustments are made to the advancement numbers to reflect any disparity in team participation between regions. Capacity limitations at the State Finals venue is also a factor in determining advancement numbers. General advancement guidelines for 2016-2017 <4 teams, case-by-case evaluation 4-12 teams, top 3 advance (some case-by-case) 13-15 teams, top 4 advance >15 teams, case-by-case depending on # judging teams
