Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Fontenot picked up her first collegiate win and PC s first this season while Jordan Broadway s 2.11 goals against average and 48 saves pace the netminding duo. Last Time Out PC picked up its first win of 2012 in convincing fashion, knocking off VMI by a 4-1 margin on Saturday. The Blue Hose scored two goals in the first 4:40 as Sara Simpson and Tori Lopez put the Keydets behind early, one of two Lopez goals on the day. Fontenot made five saves in her first career start to earn her first win. No-vertime The Blue Hose have seen four overtime matches this season, the most since 2010. The squad has come up short in all four, most recently taking a narrow defeat at Longwood on September 22. Hey Bulldogs PC battled South Carolina State to a 1-1 tie in a scrimmage on Tuesday at home, the team s only preseason action. Stephanie Allen put PC ahead in the final 30-minute period by converting on a cross from Brittany Whitson, but the Bulldogs equalized in the closing minutes. Bring Them Back The Blue Hose return 14 letterwinners and eight starters from last season s squad, including leading scorer Sara Simpson, goalkeeper Jordan Broadway and defensive stalwarts Alice Blackwell and Brittany Whitson. Blackwell will serve as senior captain while Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) and Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) maintain co-captain duties. Addition By Division On August 2, the NCAA Executive Committee voted to approve Presbyterian College s full certification to Division I. The Blue Hose will now be eligible for NCAA and Big South Conference postseason play for the first time since joining the league and playing a Division I schedule since the 2007-08 season. New Blood The team welcomes seven newcomers as Chandler Carter, Sophie Cobb, Christy Darracott, Sydney Fontenot, Hannah Gaither, Madison Smith and Alison Stelling join the Blue Hose. and all saw action against SC State in the team s preseason scrimmage. At the Polls The Big South Conference announced its annual women s soccer preseason poll on August 6, tabbing PC to finish 11th. The Blue Hose have exceeded expectations every year since playing their first Big South Conference season in 2008, beating an 11th place prediction last year by finishing ninth. A Team of Distinction In June, the Blue Hose earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for its latest Academic Progress Report (APR) score. The distinction honors PC women s soccer for an APR in the top 10 percent of Division I women s soccer programs in the nation. The Blue Hose are one of 13 athletic programs in the Big South Conference and the only League women s soccer team to receive a Public Recognition Award. This year s award marks the third straight for the program as well. 2011 in Review The Blue Hose went 4-13-2 in 2011 with a 2-6-2 marker in Big South Conference play. PC ended the season with a 1-0 shutout over High Point and picked up a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina. At the Helm Brian Purcell returns as PC s head coach for the 24rd year. Purcell, the only coach in program history, enters this season with a 229-163-19 career record. A 1987 graduate of PC, Purcell won the South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year award seven times and earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America s Coach of the Year award in 1994. He is joined this season by 2012 graduate and former PC goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson, the school s alltime leader in saves. ## Points GP G A Pts Shots 5 ALLEN, Stephanie 11 2 0 4 17 14 BLACKWELL, Alice 11 2 0 4 4 19 WHITSON, Brittany 9 1 0 2 5 9 KOZERA, Kelly 11 0 2 2 9 22 O'NEILL, Keri 10 0 1 1 5 3 PATTI, Taylor 6 0 1 1 1 ## Goals GP G A Pts Shots 5 ALLEN, Stephanie 11 2 0 4 17 14 BLACKWELL, Alice 11 2 0 4 4 19 WHITSON, Brittany 9 1 0 2 5 ## Assists GP G A Pts Shots 9 KOZERA, Kelly 11 0 2 2 9 3 PATTI, Taylor 6 0 1 1 1 22 O'NEILL, Keri 10 0 1 1 5 2012 Presbyterian College Soccer Presbyterian College Category Leaders (as of Oct 02, 2012) All games ## Shots GP G A Shots Shot% 16 LOPEZ, Tori 11 4 1 17.235 5 ALLEN, Stephanie 11 2 0 17.118 4 SMITH, Catie 10 0 0 10.000 9 KOZERA, Kelly 11 0 2 9.000 11 MILLER, Rebecca 11 0 0 9.000 12 SIMPSON, Sara 11 2 2 8.250 21 COBB, Sophie 11 1 1 6.167 22 O'NEILL, Keri 10 0 1 5.000 19 WHITSON, Brittany 9 1 0 5.200 14 BLACKWELL, Alice 11 2 0 4.500 ## Shots on Goal GP G A Shots SOG SOG% 16 LOPEZ, Tori 11 4 1 17 12.706 5 ALLEN, Stephanie 11 2 0 17 9.529 4 SMITH, Catie 10 0 0 10 5.500 9 KOZERA, Kelly 11 0 2 9 5.556 12 SIMPSON, Sara 11 2 2 8 5.625 21 COBB, Sophie 11 1 1 6 5.833 11 MILLER, Rebecca 11 0 0 9 4.444 22 O'NEILL, Keri 10 0 1 5 3.600 14 BLACKWELL, Alice 11 2 0 4 3.750 19 WHITSON, Brittany 9 1 0 5 2.400 ## Game-winning Goals GP No. 16 LOPEZ, Tori 11 1 2012 Team Game Highs POINTS...11 vs VMI (Sep 29) 9 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) GOALS...4 vs VMI (Sep 29) 3 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) ASSISTS...3 vs VMI (Sep 29) 3 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) SHOTS...20 at USC Upstate (Sep 16) 17 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) SHOTS ON GOAL...15 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) 10 at USC Upstate (Sep 16) SAVES...12 vs Jacksonville (Sep 06) 8 at ETSU (Aug 24) CORNER KICKS...10 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) 8 vs Jacksonville (Sep 06) FOULS...17 at Francis Marion (Aug 21) 15 vs VMI (Sep 29) 2012 Individual Game Highs POINTS...5 Lopez, vs VMI (Sep 29) GOALS...2 Lopez, vs VMI (Sep 29) 1 Whitson, at Longwood (Sept 22) 1 Simpson, 2x, vs VMI (Sep 29) 1 Blackwell, 2x, vs VMI (Sep 29) 1 Allen, 2x, at ETSU (Aug 24) 1 Cobb at Francis Marion (Aug 21) 1 Lopez, 2x, at ETUS (Aug 24) ASSISTS...1 O Neill, vs VMI (Sep 29) 1 Kozera, vs VMI (Sep 29) 1 Simpson, 2x, at ETSU (Aug 24) 1 Cobb at ETSU (Aug 24) 1 Kozera at Francis Marion (Aug 21).1 Patti at Francis Marion (Aug 21) SHOTS ON GOAL...4 Smith at USC Upstate (Sep 16) 4 Lopez at Francis Marion (Aug 21) 4 Allen at Francis Marion (Aug 21) SAVES...10 Fontenot vs Furman (Sep 02) 9 Broadway vs Jacksonville (Sep 06)
