January 19, 2017 The Canadian Snowcross Racing Association season opener was held January 14-15 in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec. The International Snowcross Grand Prix was the perfect start to the season with large crowds in attendance and tons of snow! Saturday s schedule was set-up with practice for all classes in the morning followed by Main Event Classes racing in the afternoon. With temperatures sitting below -20 before the windchill factor all day it was a chilly start to the season but everyone was in high spirits and excited to race. The Sport 2 600 class had a lot of new faces this year as many racers made the move up from their previous classes. #117 Isaac St.Onge (Ski-Doo, St.Onge Recreation) from Barrie, ON dominated both of his heat races and took the win in the Sport 2 600 final. #321 Kyle Ward (Ski-Doo, London Recreational Racing) from Plattsville, ON finished 2 nd followed by #204 Justin Rodney from London, ON. In the Pro-Lite class it was Bailey Motorsports rider #729 Ryan Hunt (Ski-Doo) from Toronto, ON who took the hole shot and the checkered flag. #335 Taylor McCoy (Ski-Doo, McCoy s Racing) from Bracebridge, ON placed 2 nd and #14 RJ Roy (Rockstar Energy Drink, Hubert Motorsports, Polaris) from Porcupine, ON placed 3 rd. In the newly created Pro Class #637 Mitch McNair (Arctic Cat) from Bracebridge, ON moved from 3 rd to 1 st in the last lap of the final to take the win. He was followed by #188 Scott Vandeborne (Team Southside Polaris) from Denfield, ON in 2 nd and #433 Cale Callan (OTSFF MPA Rockstar Energy Drink Polaris) from Springwater, ON in 3 rd. In the Royal Distributing Pro Open Class it was #115 Dave Joanis (Rockstar Energy Drink, London Recreational Racing, Ski-Doo) from Cochrane, ON out front from the first lap to checkered flag. #999 Colby Crappo (Rockstar Energy Drink, Hubert Motorsports, Polaris) from Breslau, ON placed 2 nd and #27 Mathieu Morin (Ski-Doo) from Val D Or, QC placed 3 rd. Sunday saw slightly warmer temperatures and sunny skies that made for a beautiful backdrop to Round 2 of the International Snowcross Grand Prix. With tough competition in the Sport 2 600 class it was a tight race from start to finish. In the end #321 Kyle Ward (London Recreational Racing, Ski-Doo) Plattsville, ON took home the win. #259 Jared Heshka (MBRP, Ski-Doo) from Bracebridge,ON moved up in the field from 4 th to finish 2 nd followed by #612 Roy Norris (Country Corners Arctic Cat) in 3 rd.
In the Pro-Lite class #14 RJ Roy (Rockstar Energy Drink, Hubert Motorsports, Polaris) from Porcupine, ON placed 1 st overall in the final while fending off #335 Taylor McCoy (McCoy Racing, Ski-Doo) from Bracebridge, ON who finished 2 nd. #729 Ryan Hunt from Toronto, ON (Bailey Motorsports, Ski-Doo) placed 3 rd. In the Pro Class it was #335 Taylor McCoy (McCoy Racing, Ski-Doo) from Bracebridge, ON who took the win. #637 Mitch McNair (Country Corners Arctic Cat) from Bracebridge, ON placed 2 nd and 3 rd went to #459 Jake Weir (Country Corners Arctic Cat) also from Bracebridge, ON. The Royal Distributing Pro Open final on Sunday was by far the best race of the weekend. 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th place were constantly changing as the laps were rattled off by the Pro Open racers. In the end it was #999 Colby Crappo (Rockstar Energy Drink, Hubert Motorsports, Polaris) from Idaho, USA who took the win followed by #115 Dave Joanis (Rockstar Energy Drink, London Recreational Racing, Ski-Doo) from Cochrane, ON in 2 nd. #421 Dylan Hall (Country Corners Arctic Cat) from Ayr, ON placed 3 rd. The Royal Distributing Cup at Georgian Downs Raceway in Innisfil, ON has been rescheduled for the weekend of February 18 th -19 th. The next CSRA race will be the Highland Ford Can/Am Cup at The Yard in Sault Ste. Marie, ON February 4-5 th.
