How Michael Jordan Impacted The 90 s

Biography Full Name: Michael Jeffrey Jordan Born: 2/17/63 in Brooklyn, NY Drafted by: Chicago Bulls, 1984 Transactions: Retired, 10/6/93; Activated from retirement, 3/18/95; Retired, 1/13/99; Signed with Washington Wizards, 9/25/01. High School: Laney (Wilmington, NC) College: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Nickname: Air Jordan Height: 6-6; Weight: 216 lbs.

Youth As a child, Michael and his father James had a passion for baseball. Michael would always look up to his father, yet he idolized his older brother. He saw his brother, Larry, as an inspiration and decided to start playing basketball with him. Most people think the number 23 might be synonymous with Michael, but it was really all about Larry. Michael chose the number in high school because he d always said he wished to be half as good a player as Larry, who wore number 45. Of course, 22.5 was unavailable. It wasn t until the summer of Michael s sophomore year when he grew from 6 1 to 6 6, allowing Michael s body to live up to his talent.

Honors Six-time NBA champion (1991-93, 1996-98); NBA MVP (1988, '91, '92, '96, '98); 10-time All-NBA First Team (1987-93, 1996-98); All-NBA Second Team (1985); Defensive Player of the Year (1988); Nine-time All-Defensive First Team (1988-93, 1996-98); Rookie of the Year (1985); 14-time All-Star; All-Star MVP (1988, '96, '98); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Two-time Olympic gold medalist (1984, '92).

Michael Jordan s Iconic Free Throw Line Dunk

What Made Michael Jordan The Best? Michael had such a unique play style and level of talent, making him a legend among legends such as Larry Bird. Michael Jordan not only revolutionized the way basketball was played, but how it was watched. The United Center was completely full of cheering Chicago fans, who wanted to see Jordan play in person, as well as beat the rival team.

Michael Jordan s Impact On The NBA His impact is far greater than awards and championships. He burst into the league as a rookie sensation, scoring in droves with an unmatchable first step and acrobatic drives and dunks, concluding his career as a cultural icon. Along the way, he became a true champion who spearheaded the globalization of the NBA with his dynamic on-court abilities and personal sense of style that was marketed to the masses.

Michael Jordan s Impact On The People Of Chicago Words no longer suffice when the subject is Michael Jordan. You need numbers. Call him the very best basketball player who ever lived, and no one puts up much of a fuss anymore: Five championship rings, five MVP trophies, a record ten scoring titles--yeah, he's got more game than anybody. Ask whether he's worth all that money he's paid by Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf, and you're still not likely to start any bar fights. Sure, Jordan's salary is some $34 million this season. But hey: since Reinsdorf bought 56% of the Bulls for $9.2 million the year after Jordan arrived, his investment has grown more than 1,000%--the team is now worth well over $200 million. - Fortune Magazine 1998

Insightful Quotes I ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can t accept not trying. My attitude is that if you push me towards something that you think is a weakness, then I will turn that perceived weakness into a strength.

How Michael Jordan Impacted The 90 s Michael would wear his University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill basketball shorts under his Chicago Bulls shorts, giving them a long and baggy look. Since then, basketball shorts have been longer and baggier. Due to Jordan s hang time, he received the nickname Air Jordan by Nike, who made and name a shoe after. From the minute he stepped on the court, the game of basketball was changed. He brought life to the game and redefined the word talent by statistically and physically proving so. The United Center (Stadium where the Chicago Bulls play) was completely full for every home game because people wanted to see Jordan play and crush the rivaling team.
