**Volunteers Needed** Would you like to be a part of the concert buzz? If this appeals to you, please write your name down on the CREW SIGN UP sheet in the waiting area at Dancemakers. We need people selling programs, ushering, back stage and on the door for all of our rehearsals and the performance. If you or anyone you know is interested, please pop your name down asap if you think it s a possibility that your child will be anxious without you close by, it s a great idea to pop your name down to help back stage. I would love to say we will catch up before the show but with everyone s busy schedule I don t think this is possible. Our communication will predominantly be online. We make every effort to make sure you are with your child s class group but please note that at times you may be looking after another class group in the same dressing room YOU WILL GET TO SEE YOUR CHILD ON STAGE regardless of which group you are watching you will just need to swap with a staff member or fellow volunteer. HELPERS We require 50 % of our helpers to be available on BOTH the theatre rehearsal AND the performance in order for the show to run effectively. We will assign class groups accordingly please specify on Crew Sign-up Sheet. *We will also require extra hands at our studio rehearsal day* Helpers must be registered prior to rehearsals commencing so we can register you with the theatre. Helpers will be clearly recognizable to both our staff and the staff at the theatre. We will not accept last minute sign ups on the day. Under no circumstances are parents to be backstage. Your child will be checked in and taken to their dressing room by one of our staff/helpers. If you are found to be backstage without the proper identification you will be promptly asked to leave. Just like the staff at Dancemakers, the staff at Founders theatre take the care and safety of children very seriously systems and processes are in place for the safety of your children, please follow them. In House Rules Please observe our rules for rehearsals & performance. All mobile phones to be switched off (not silent as this interferes with technical equipment) There will be NO filming or photography allowed in the theatre on the production afternoon. The scheduled photo shoot is the only opportunity for photos of your child in costume and dvds can be purchased. Children are to be dropped off AND collected ON TIME. Additional theatre costs will apply if children are not collected on time Dancemakers will not wear this expense, you will be invoiced if you are late collecting your child. Please understand staff and students may be feeling the pressure of the year...and the build up to our show... try to keep your cool and be patient. Should we run 15mins late, we apologise please understand we are working with a cast of many children! Parents are NOT to enter a rehearsal unless they are registered helpers. 7
Please remember to send water and food along with your child. STRICTLY NO NUTS All children are to be signed in and out by ONE parent / carer- please don t bring the whole family to the drop off / collection points. Children are not to wait outside nor leave the premises for any reason. Contacting us during rehearsals... as you can imagine we are super busy during these times. Please try to avoid calling during this time unless necessary, save any questions for tomorrow, or try to think of them the day before. STAGE MAKE UP DEMO @ Dancemakers FRIDAY 20 th OCTOBER 6.45pm $10 Please bring as much make up as you have, and your child its not too late. Children over 10 can try to apply their selves no need to go out and purchase extra as we can recommend what is vest for you. What you should have in your make up kit: An inexpensive make up kit is fine. We can t guarantee that make up won t get mixed up with other peoples... please label everything and tell your child to keep it in their bag unless a teacher / helper asks them otherwise. Stage make up is very important, faces get lost from a distance and under the stage lights. Consider your make up as part of your costume. It completes the overall look. Girls Foundation Bright Red Lip Stick Pink / Red Blush Black Liquid Eye liner Rich Brown eye shadow plus lighter neutral shades White / Silvery brow high light Mascara False eye lashes (for students OVER the age of 8) Face wipes (It is expected MiniMovers will wear less make up than our older students Attend the make- up demonstration to see details.) Rich Brown Eye shadow plus lighter neutral shades Face wipes Eyes: Just a little neutral eye shadow brushed over the lid, with richer brown along the crease of eye lid Line of eyeliner (to and bottom) with a lick of mascara. 9
A Parent s guide. How to survive production time? NOW: Dates: Mark all dates in your diary and on the family calendar. Try your hardest to attend all classes from here until the concert. Not only are rehearsals vital...but the children really enjoy them! They watch each other dance and get a little taste of what is to come. Please remember that this is a team effort the children rely on each other, and it makes it very difficult with missing bodies. Practice: Practice is good! Your child will be more confident if they practice. Let them perform for you! Running order: Help familiarise your child with the running order of the show. For those in more than one item get to know your costume changes. The running order is outlined in the BYO COSTUMES list at the beginning of the booklet. Money Owing: Finalise all outstanding fees. Students with unpaid fees will NOT participate in the concert, photo day or any rehearsals. Should you find you are having trouble meeting payment deadlines, please let us know so we can arrange a payment plan. LATER: Relax: We are all super excited...and maybe a little anxious. Sometimes our parents are more nervous than our performers. Try to relax and enjoy this special experience. Plan ahead: Check that you have everything you need. Make up, tights, clean shoes, hair spray, hair pins etc. Arrange to share the driving with another parent. Label: Make sure EVERYTHING is labeled (Including a bag for performers belongings). Each year we collect countless items from the theatre... with many of them unnamed, please take the time to label everything! Shoes, clothes and make up can get mixed up between students...at least if everything is named there is a chance for them to be returned to their rightful owner. Rest: The weeks prior to a production can be exhausting; plenty of rest during the buildup goes a long way. Arrive on time: (Please). Students will need time to find their group and set up their belongings. If we have too many late comers this puts our schedule out of whack... and may cause us to run over time. THE DAY! Make sure your child has everything they need. Be proud, performers love applause!...clap & cheer! Enjoy yourself! It takes so much courage for our dancers to get up on stage and perform for so many people. Many children (and adults) experience stage fright, particularly when it is a first performance. If your child freezes, or forgets part of their dance don t worry, we are all proud of them regardless 10
