Dear Pantera Candidate and Parent, Thank you for your interest in the Colleyville Heritage High School dance team, Panteras. Panteras is a precision dance/drill team that exemplifies the pride and spirit of Colleyville Heritage High School. They are involved in many activities in the school and community, serving as a performance team for entertainment and to represent their school proudly at competitive events. Your daughter has expressed an interest in becoming a member of the Award Winning Panteras. As the April 14, 2016 team audition date nears, I feel it is important that you are aware of what is expected from each candidate on the day of auditions, as well as understand my expectations of the girls who earn a position on the 2016-2017 team. It is an honor to be selected as a member of Panteras, but it also carries a lot of responsibility. In preparation for the April 14th audition date, it is important that you read all correspondence received so that if your daughter is selected, you will be educated on the commitment that she is making. The Pantera candidates have a chance of earning a position on the 2016-2017 Award Winning Pantera Varsity Dance Team. The 2016-2017 auditions will determine which girls will be selected to the team. It is important that you understand that not everyone who auditions will become a Pantera. Only those candidates that pass the audition process will be selected as members of the team. The Pantera Varsity and Pantherette Junior Varsity Dance Team Auditions occur on the same day and in front of the same panel of judges. If you are a current 9 th grader you have several options. * Once you have marked your packet you cannot change your mind once the audition process starts! 1. Attend the varsity workshop with hope of making either team (varsity priority). You will participate in the varsity audition only, but if your scores do not qualify you to make the varsity team, but do qualify you for the JV, you will be a member of the Pantherette JV team for your sophomore year. 2. Attend the varsity workshop with the intent to audition ONLY for the varsity team. If you do not make the varsity team, you elect NOT to be a member of the JV team even if your scores qualify you for the JV team. 3. Attend only the JV workshop with the intent of ONLY auditioning for the JV team. In this case you should apply and only audition for the JV Pantherette Dance Team. The April 14 th audition will be preceded by three phases. Those candidates who pass each of these three phases will be the ones who participate in the final audition in front of the judges. The three phases and their deadline dates are listed below: PHASE I MANDATORY Parent/Candidate Orientation Meeting, Tuesday, April 5 th, 2016, 6:15 pm. CHHS Auditorium (Will transition to CHHS Library at approximately 6:35 pm for more information regarding Panteras only) o General Handbook / Constitution Information o Audition Requirements o Financial Obligations PHASE II Applications DUE by Wednesday, April 6 th, 2016, 4:00 pm to the CHHS Front Office o Audition Application/Candidate Information Form o Audition Eligibility Form (REQUIRES CANDIDATE & PARENT / GUARDIAN SIGNATURE) --Applicants who received a failing grade on their 3 rd Nine Weeks Grade Report MUST submit 3- weeks progress reports for each class along with this eligibility form in order to determine eligibility status for auditions. o Audition Health Form (REQUIRES PARENT / GUARDIAN SIGNATURE) o 2016-2017 Student Evaluation for Cheerleading and Drill Team Form o Discipline Referral Form o 2015-2016 Transcript with grades from the 1 st 3 rd 9-weeks as well as conduct grades (Print off of skyward) o Copy of current YEARLY (2015-16) Attendance Record PHASE III Pantera Line Audition Workshop April 11-13 2016, 4-6 pm, CHHS Dance Gym 2

PHASE IV- Pantera Line Auditions April 14, 2016, 4:30 Approx. 9:00 pm, CHHS Dance Gym In order to continue with the audition process ALL forms listed in phase two MUST be completed and returned to the CHHS front office NO LATER than 4:00 pm on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6th, 2016. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE BY THE DIRECTOR ** ALL INFORMATION MUST BE COMPLETE ** The Pantera Workshops, April 11-13, are when the girls will learn the audition routines, as well as the proper stretching, kicking, and dancing techniques necessary to make the team. Thursday, April 14 th, 2016 will be the only audition date that will be offered for girls currently enrolled in GCISD. Auditions will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. Candidates will need to be ready to receive their audition numbers at 4:30 pm and will remain in the holding gym. Only candidates and returning team members, along with the audition assistants, are allowed in the holding gym. Candidates will NOT be allowed to leave until ALL callbacks deemed necessary by the judges have been completed. Auditions are closed; therefore, there will be no spectators/family members allowed during the auditions. The number of selected 2016-2017 line members will be based upon the number of candidates auditioning and their final score variations. The final team will consist of sophomores, juniors, and seniors of the 2016-2017 school year. Each candidate will be judged on a 130-point scale. The candidates will audition in front of three impartial judges. Each judge will score the girls on a 100-point scale; all three judges scores will be added together and averaged for a possible judging total of 100 points. Thirty points will come from the 2016-2017 Student Evaluation for Cheerleading and Drill Team. From this score, the judges will make their selections. THE JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. Again, this is the only audition date; the girls will be judged on their performance on that date only. As director, I am asking for parents to prepare their daughters for the possibility of making the team, as well as the possibility of not making the team. This is an important step in each girl s life; some will experience the thrill of victory, while others will experience the agony of defeat. If she has your complete support, she will be able to keep her final outcome in perspective. Each girl is a winner for trying, but she must understand that membership is limited. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Warren, (817) 305-4700, ext. 4762 or karis.warren@gcisd.net. Sincerely, Karis Warren Pantera Director 3

This includes Pre- AP and AP classes. Academic eligibility must be maintained in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. No candidate shall have an excessive number of absences. A candidate may not have more than five absences per class/per semester. Each candidate must be cleared through the attendance office before being admitted to audition. Extenuating circumstances must be resolved with campus administrators prior to submitting all paperwork for auditions. A candidate who is academically ineligible for extra-curricular participation during the nine weeks period in which auditions occur and has not been academically ineligible for more than three nine weeks may audition to become a Pantera. If auditions occur within the first three weeks of the new nine weeks, the academically ineligible candidate may attend before or after school rehearsal; however, if auditions occur within the last three weeks of the nine weeks and the candidate remained ineligible following three weeks progress report, according to the Texas No Pass-No Play Rule currently in effect, she would not be able to attend before/after school rehearsal. In the event that the candidate is selected to become a Pantera, she will be placed on a probationary status. If she does not regain her eligibility during the next grading period, she will forfeit her membership. Each candidate will receive a STUDENT EVALUATION RATING. This evaluation rating is based 4

on the applicant s grades, disciplinary records and attendance office records. (See Student Evaluation for Cheerleading and Dance Team form.) This rating constitutes 30 points of a possible 130 points of the candidate s final audition score. Section 9. Section 10. Section 11. Section 12. Section 13. Section 14. Section 15. Section 16. Section 17. Candidates are required to have excellent citizenship and disciplinary records. Each candidate must be cleared through the assistant principals office before being admitted to the audition. In order to qualify to audition for the Pantera Dance Team, candidates may not have acquired more than two disciplinary referrals in the current school year. Having more than two discipline referrals makes a candidate ineligible for auditions. Candidates are required to have excellent classroom citizenship and conduct. Each candidate will be credited for proper conduct in accordance with the GCISD Student Evaluation Form for Cheerleading and Dance Team based upon the citizenship grades received on the candidate s most recent grade report. All new candidates and a parent or guardian(s) must attend an audition orientation meeting or contact the director for an appointment. Failure to attend or meet with the director will result in the candidate s inability to audition. Prospective members and their parents or guardians must be fully aware of the time and expense in becoming a Pantera. Returning Panteras and their parents are NOT required to attend the meeting. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 5 th @ 6:15 pm in the CHHS Auditorium. A prospective member must reside with her parent or guardian(s) within the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District or show proof of future GCISD residency (i.e. deed of sale, leasing contract). They must also reside within the Colleyville Heritage High School attendance zone, unless they are employees of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District and an approved transfer request is on file with the CHHS Principal. New students to the district and the CHHS attendance zone must submit documents to prove residency. One of the following must be submitted to the Pantera director and assistant principal: an executed lease, deed of sale, current utility bill or tax statement, as stated in the GCISD district policy. New students to the district must audition only on the scheduled date of Pantera auditions and must meet all set requirements before the audition. Transfer of membership from any varsity level dance/drill team to CHHS, including in-district transfers, does not grant membership to the CHHS Pantera Dance Team. Prospective Pantera candidates must remain enrolled at CHHS throughout the entire school year otherwise membership will be revoked. All candidates must attend all audition practices, unless academically ineligible or suspended. If a candidate is to be absent from practice, the director must be contacted prior to the absence. A candidate may not miss more than one practice unless excused by the director or an administrator prior to the absence. Candidates will be expected to perform specific routines at auditions. A panel of three impartial judges will evaluate the performance of the candidate for line membership. Selection of line members will be based on the sum of the average score of all three judges and the Student Evaluation for Cheerleading and Drill Team form during a closed audition session. Candidates who have previously violated the GCISD Extra-Curricular Activity Pledge will be deducted 10 points from their combined total score for each violation. ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS Section 1. Membership on Panteras is a privilege, not a right. Since members choose to audition and are then selected for membership in an extra-curricular activity, each member is considered a leader withinthe school and around the community. Members must agree to abide by the guidelines as set forth in the 5

Pantera Constitution and in the GCISD Extra-Curricular Activity Pledge. Failure to abide by these district guidelines will cause forfeiture of team membership. Section 2. Section 3. Section 4. Section 5. Section 6. Section 7. Section 8. Section 9. Section 10. Section 11. Section 12. Section 13. Section 14. Dance team members MUST participate in the audition process every year. Returning members must be in good standing from the previous year to maintain eligibility for tryouts. Team members must register for the designated Pantera (PE/Elective) and for the Dance II, III, or IV (Fine Arts/Elective) class periods for the fall and spring semesters for the upcoming school year and remain enrolled throughout the year. Members, pending eligibility status, will participate in all activities in which the organization is involved, be it performance, fundraising or school and community events. All members are required to attend dance team camp and other required dance/choreography workshops throughout the year. Members who do not attend dance team camp will be placed on alternate status and will not dance in the first two football performances. Before school, after school and summer practice sessions are required for every member. Dates and times will be announced as camp dates and other school schedules become available to the director. Summer practice for all members is mandatory upon notification of these dates and times. Every member must be present for all practice sessions, camp, pep rallies, competitions, fund-raisers, etc. Members audition for every performance unless ill or injured. They must demonstrate competent memory of the specific dance, be able to perform the dance skills and showmanship required in order to earn a dance position for that routine. Members who do not receive a dance position in the specific routine shall assume the role of a dance alternate for that routine. If a member is absent on the audition day, she will lose her place in that routine. If a member does not audition, she cannot dance in that performance. A member may audition at an earlier date and time in the event of extenuating circumstances and with prior approval from the director. A member may audition after the scheduled tryout only if a call back situation occurs. Members who are unable to audition for a performance must notify the director for approval. Failure to audition for a specific routine will automatically result in a member s inability to perform that specific routine. She will then only be allowed to serve as a practice session alternate for that routine. Members will purchase their practice clothing and other necessary clothing as required. All personal financial obligations for uniform orders must be met. Performance privileges can be withheld if financial obligations are not met. The term of membership shall extend from the time immediately following dance team auditions through auditions of the following school year. Members must exhibit and maintain a satisfactory attitude toward school policies and regulations. Members may not leave any function for any reason other than illness, injury or death in the family. The member may leave with a family member or relative ONLY, and the director must be contacted prior to departure. If the student leaves, a written note must be submitted to the director which states that the student is leaving with a parent/guardian, what the reason is for departure, and that the director and GCISD are released of all responsibility for that student. All members and their parent (s) / guardian (s) are required to sign a GCISD Extra-Curricular and Co- Curricular Drug and Alcohol Pledge. The pledge is in effect for an entire calendar year including the summer. 6

The team can be the best only if it has your support. I hope each of you will be willing to give your support to your daughter and the team as these girls prepare for a successful 2016-2017 year. 10

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY OF PANTERA AUDITIONS? WHEN: Thursday, April 14 th, 2016 WHERE: Colleyville Heritage High School Dance Gym TIME: 4:30 pm WHO MAY TRY OUT FOR PANTERAS? Any girl who is presently in grades 9 th through 11 th grades and has completed and passed the application process (see the application packet when available). IS THERE AN INFORMATION MEETING PRIOR TO THE AUDITIONS? Yes. There will be a mandatory Parent Meeting for all Pantera Candidates and at least one parent/guardian, prior to the audition date. Tuesday, April 5 th, 2016 @ 6:15 pm in the CHHS Auditorium (We will transition to the CHHS Library at approximately 6:35pm for Pantera candidates only) WHO MAY BE PRESENT DURING THE AUDITIONS? Auditions are closed to spectators. Those eligible for attendance include the director, judges, graduating senior officers and CHHS administrators. No parents, boyfriends, friends, etc. may be present. We do this because we feel that the girls are already under a great deal of pressure, and the presence of these people would only add more stress and cause the girls to do less than their best. WHEN WILL I LEARN THE AUDITION ROUTINE? The audition routine will be taught during the audition workshops prior to the auditions. April 11-13, 2016, 4:00 6:00 pm in the CHHS Dance gym. WHAT DO I WEAR TO AUDITIONS? Each candidate must wear a black sleeveless leotard, black tights/jazz pants, black socks, black jazz shoes, foot undeez, or dance bare foot, hair pulled away from face with a RED ribbon/bow. BRING: SAFETY PINS!! HOW MANY WILL MAKE IT? The number of selected line member will be based upon the number of candidates auditioning and their final score variations. WHEN CAN I LEAVE THE AUDITION? Candidates will NOT be allowed to leave until ALL groups have auditioned in front of the judges and ALL callback groups have performed in front of judges. All personal items must be removed from the school prior to dismissal from the audition. Immediately following the conclusion of the audition, all candidates must leave the building. WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF I MADE IT? Announcement of the new line shall be made following the conclusion of the line auditions, callbacks and final tally of scores. HOW WILL I FIND OUT IF I MADE IT? Results of the audition will be posted on Ms. Warren s CHHS website and should be available for access approximately 2-3 hours after the conclusion of the audition. 11

Pantera Estimated Expenses The estimated cost of being a Pantera is approximately $1,000.00 for practice clothes, field uniform items, camp costs, warm-ups, and other team practice and performance items. The cost is sufficiently less for returning Panteras who already have the required uniform items. The estimated cost includes practice clothes, bags, uniform pieces, camp, make-up, social fee, etc. The estimated cost does not include pictures, banquet tickets, sister gifts or travel/lodging for contest. A detailed cost list will be distributed prior to vendor night. FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE APPLICATIONS CAN BE PICKED UP FROM MS. WARREN AT THE MONDAY, APRIL 25 th ORIENTATION MEETING PAYMENT PLANS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ADDITIONAL PARENT INFORMATION Vendor Night is scheduled for Wednesday May 4 th, 2016 at 6:00 pm in the Panther Den (CHHS Cafeteria). o Resale of gently used dance team items begins at 5:30pm. o You will need to be prepared to pay deposits on ALL uniforms and camps! Dance Officer & Social Officer camps will be paid in full! The cost of that camp will be given as soon as I know! You will need to make a check payable to CHHS Panteras for a $50.00 deposit so that I can order field boots, hats, scarves, bloomers, poms, make-up etc. A minimum of $150 is due to Leapin Leotards to order your dancewear. You will pay half down on May 4 th and your remaining balance in July. The balance to Leapin Leotards and CHHS Pantera Booster Club will be due at the end of July when you receive all of your practice dancewear. At that time the balance due for all Booster Club Items. Parent Involvement As with most high school athletics, when a student makes a team, the whole family makes the team. The Pantera Booster Club serves to raise money for necessary items such as competitions, costumes, choreography and social events, as well as provide motivation, spirit and moral support to the team. It is a well-oiled machine that succeeds year after year due to the support of each family. It is not a requirement to join, but at this important time in your daughter s life it should be a joy to support it. Parental participation begins right away during the summer in order to work on obtaining corporate sponsors. Travel Another major investment to expect as a Pantera family is funding the annual spring trip. Every other year the Panteras travel out-of-state. This is NOT an OUT-OF-STATE travel year. The booster club will work to raise funds to help pay for each Panteras trip, but the majority of travel expenses, lodging, or food is the Panteras responsibility. The more funds raised by the Booster Club the less the cost is per Pantera! 12
