Welcome Coaches Welcome to the new season and thank you for donating your time and energy. The Banks Hockey Club committee wish you the very best for you and your team and hope you have an enjoyable season. We pride ourselves on being a social and inclusive club, so keep an eye out on our website, and Facebook pages for the various social events planned during the year. Please take the time to read this as it has been produced for your benefit, and to provide guidance to make the job of coaching easier. New policies have been implemented and are outlined below. 1. Umpire abuse will not be tolerated and as such the Committees stance is that any player who receives a yellow or red card for umpire abuse will get a club imposed 1 game ban, this can only be overturned by the committee and would warrant some special circumstance for this to be overturned. 2. All Goal Keeper equipment removed from the shed is to be recorded on the register kept inside the shed. 3. All coaches are required to have an Ochre Card. The application fee for volunteers is $5.00 with a form signed by the club. Application forms are available from the SAFENT office at 77 Smith Street or from the SAFENT. Coaching Accreditation Banks Hockey Club would like to ensure that the best possible coaching is available to its players, and as such when coaching course become available, actively encourage its coaches to attend such courses. Banks Hockey Club will reimburse the cost of attending these courses upon successful completion of the course. Recent Rule Changes (2016) 1. The ability to take attacking free hits, awarded within 5 metres of the edge of the circle, from the point of the offence. The change states that the ball still has to travel at least 5 metres before it can be played into the circle, or alternatively has to touched by another player or either team, other than the player taking the free hit. 2. The second changed concerns the re-start, after the ball has unintentionally been played over the back-line by a defender or deflected by a goalkeeper or player with goalkeeping privileges, and no goal is scored. Play will now be re-started with the ball on the 23 metre line and in line with where it crossed the back-line. Taking the restart from the 23 metres line will open up the play and give more passing options. FIH 2015 Rule book http://www.fih.ch/files/sport/rules/ 6

Player/ Athlete Code of Behaviour 1. Behave in a sporting manner at all times to all players, officials and spectators. 2. Don t make detrimental statements in respect of the performance of any match officials or umpires. 3. Play by the rules at all times and ensure that the game of hockey is not brought into disrepute by your actions. 4. Do not engage in inappropriate and/or physical contact with players or officials during the course of play. 5. Accept responsibility for all actions taken. Exercise reasonable care to prevent injury by ensuring that you play within the rules. Reasonable care consists of showing due diligence in abiding by the rules and adhering to the officials decisions. 6. Adhere to the Anti Doping Policy advocated by HA. 7. Do not bet on the outcome or on any other aspect of a hockey match or competition. 8. Do not try to achieve a contrived outcome to a match or competition, or otherwise improperly influence the outcome or any other aspect of a match or a competition. 9. Do not show unnecessary obvious dissension, displeasure or disapproval (by action or verbal abuse) towards an umpire or match official as a consequence of his or her decision or generally. 10. Abstain from the use of tobacco and the consumption of alcoholic beverages while in the playing/representative uniform. 11. Adhere to HA racial and sexual vilification policy. 7

12. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. 13. Don t do anything which adversely affects or reflects on or discredits the game of hockey, Hockey Australia, The Darwin Hockey Association, or any squad, team, competition, tournament, sponsor, official supplier or licensee, including, but not limited to, any illegal act or any act of dishonesty or fraud. 14. Refrain from using obscene, offensive or insulting language and/or making obscene gestures which may insult other players, officials or spectators. 8

Player Registration All players MUST register online each season BEFORE taking the field. NO EXCEPTIONS. Players transferring from other Darwin clubs or from interstate need to be cleared by their previous club before they can play, so please be mindful of this as it can take 1-2 weeks to arrange. Team Managers A team manager is an invaluable resource for any coach. Although the club puts out an expression of interest for managers at the start of each season, the most successful approach is generally for coaches to approach someone who is regularly at the games (such as a parent or partner) to take on this role. The club encourages you to try to recruit a manager for your team and is happy to assist where we can. Uniforms All players are required to wear the correct and full playing uniform. Ours consists of Shirt or Singlet and skirt with club socks for ladies, shirt, shorts and socks for men. Exemptions will be made in the beginning of a season within the first few games but after a time notified by DHL, players are not to take the field without complete club uniform. It is strongly preferred that players organise uniforms at training so that they can be recorded by the treasurer and paid for in full. If uniforms are required on game day, it is the coaches responsibility to ensure that details of uniforms given and recorded and sent to the treasurer as soon as possible. If there are any issues with uniforms, please notify a committee member as soon as possible as there is a lead time for re-ordering. 9

Player fees Full fees are payable by the end of the first round, game 5, after this time the treasurer will liaise with the coaches regarding arrangements for players with fees outstanding. Early bird discounts apply for fees paid in full before the first game. For casual players - the first game is free, followed by $40 per game up to 5 games. Coaches are requested to ensure that casual players are aware of the fee structure and that arrangements for payments each week have been made. Match Reports Each coach from every grade, both juniors and seniors, is required to submit a brief summary of the game each week to our Banks Note Editor for publication. This is important as it serves as a mechanism for Player of the Week awards. It has become common to place match reports on Facebook, which you are free to do, but this will miss a large portion of our junior members and so a copy for banks notes is still required. A standard format would be but you are not limited to: ---------EXAMPLE------- A Mens vs Easts Result: Won 4-1 Goals: Simon 2, Ayden 2 Best: Sam, Ben, Ayden Great game from the guys, played well as a team, improved from last week and are now looking to secure top spot. Etc -------- Match reports will give great opportunity for the club to know how all our grades and results are going, as well as recognition for both juniors and seniors that have been playing well. Please email match reports to caroline.gallacher@gmail.com or contact Caroline if having difficulty. Player of the week awards There are awards for junior and senior players of the week, both male and female in 2017. Players are only eligible to win once per season. 12

Players need to be selected in Best Players, in their team match report, to be in contention, and it will then be awarded by the junior or senior Vice presidents or committee member. The winners name will then be published in Banks Notes. Issues and Complaints Any issues or complaints that arise during a game should be reported to the umpires at the completion of the game and the captain should ensure that the issue is recorded on the game card and the coach is notified. The coach should then notify the Banks Hockey Club president as soon as possible after the game, preferably in writing. The president will then liaise with the rest of the committee and DHL if required. Issues or complaints that are not related to a game but concern the Banks Hockey Club in some manner should be submitted to the committee in writing via the club secretary. Team Captain Responsibilities The nominated captain for each team is responsible for ensuring the card is completed correctly, noting that the score is correct and that any cards issued throughout the match have also been recorded. The captain will attend the coin toss prior to the game and be responsible for passing on any directives from the umpires to the team as a whole. BHC Coaches Facebook Group The Banks Coaches facebook group has been set up to provide a forum for coaches to share information and ideas, and to aid communication with the committee. Keep an eye on this group for coaching resources and training opportunities. 13
