Colour Usage Colour is used to display information and to draw attention to problems or unsafe situations o White: normal (Firmware v18 now allows for Green to be used) o Yellow: used for warnings that aren t immediately dangerous o Flashing Red - used for critical alerts
Colour Blind Warnings or critical states can be determined w/o colour o Warnings (Yellow) - solid inverted background o Critical Alerts (Flashing Red) - switches b/w the inverted and normal text
TTS Assume the user makes choices o Ascent rate of 30 /min o Uses gases that are turned on *If the diver does not do these things, the predictions are incorrect
@+5 The TTS if remaining at current depth for 5 more minutes
CEIL The current decompression ceiling (not rounded to the stop interval) o (i.e. not a multiple of 10ft/3m).

VPM & GF Once VPM is activated, can switch between Buhlmann, VPM, and VPM/GF in the System Setup Menu>Deco Setup submenu As with Gradient Factors the higher numbers are more conservative, therefore +5 is more conservative than 0.
Last Stop Can edit in System Setup Menu > Deco Setup Changes from 10-20 (3-6m) o Doesn t affect decompression o Only makes the TTS prediction more accurate o 20 stop less efficient when using Air Therefore, deco stops are longer than necessary
Customization: Center Row Display is customizable System Setup Menu > Center Row for OC TEC mode o The center position can only display PPO2. In OC only mode, the PPO2 display can optionally be turned off.
Customization: Bottom Row For OC REC mode the bottom row is editable. The bottom-left position always shows the currently selected gas.
Compass 1 resolution ±5 accuracy Smooth, high-speed refresh rate Heading with reciprocal True North (declination) adjustment Tilt compensation ±45
Marking a Heading: To mark a heading, press MENU (left) button until "Mark Compass" is displayed, then press SELECT (right) button to mark the current direction. The display will then jump back to the compass display. The heading is shown as a pair of green triangles. The reciprocal heading is in red.
Salinity Salt Fresh EN13319 This is the value for water that is between salt and fresh. o Is the Petrel s default value.
End Dive Delay Sets the time in seconds to wait after surfacing before ending the current dive o This value can be set from 20 seconds to 600 seconds (10 minutes) o Default is 60s Some instructors use a longer end dive delay when teaching courses. Alternatively, a shorter time can be used to exit dive mode more quickly upon surfacing
Setpoints Min/Max generate warnings OC MIN OC MAX o OC Deco o Only sets the limit at which PPO2 will flash red and generate a High PPO2 warning. This should be set slightly higher than the max PPO2 at which you plan to deco. The decompression predictions (TTS and NDL) will assume that the gas in use at a given depth is the gas with the highest PPO2 that is less than or equal to this value. Also, the suggested gas switches (when the current gas is displayed in yellow) are determined by this value. Deco tells when to switch gases
Battery Choice User Replaceable AA battery Remember to correctly set the type of battery being used this is done when the battery is changed or removed
Note About Alkaline Batteries: All Alkaline batteries can leak corrosive liquids. The risk is highest when completely discharged. o To avoid this risk, use another battery type such as lithium, or do not store for more than 2 months with alkaline batteries installed. Never leave discharged batteries in your Petrel.
