AUTORIDAD NACIONAL DE ACUICULTURA Y PESCA -AUNAP- AUNAP s Involvement with CITES implementation CITES is implemented in each country by the Management Authority and the Scientific Authority. The Management Authority in Colombia is the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, which is in charge of overseeing, among other things, the granting of import and export permits for species listed under CITES. AUNAP (the National Authority of Aquaculture and Fisheries) is involved because sharks are a fisheries resource For sharks it is necessary to: Encourage correct identification of the species caught, especially those listed by CITES Improve the collection and reporting of data in regions where this resource is commonly caught Provide tools to improve the traceability of shark products

AUTORIDAD NACIONAL DE ACUICULTURA Y PESCA -AUNAP- National Authority for Aquaculture and Fisheries AUNAP. Decree 4181 on November 3, 2011 Whereas one of the institutional objectives of the fisheries and aquaculture authority of Colombia is to advance the processes of planning, research, management, development, regulation, registration, information, inspection, monitoring and control of fishing and aquaculture activities, applying sanctions when applicable, within a policy of sustanable development of these resources. Ban on finning. Resol. 0375 de 2013. REGULATIONS Assessment of the partial cut method Ban on directed fishing througout the country. Resol. 744 in 2012, Resol. 190 in 2013 Resol 0744 de 2012

Resol. 087 del 2013 Strategic tool for collecting technical and scientific information on target and incidental catches by the various fisheries in the country. Functions: Monitor onboard and/or at port depending on the fishery. Analyze biological-fishery information Provide technical and scientific information for use as a basis for managment and sustainable development of the different fisheries in the country. Gather information.

AUTORIDAD NACIONAL DE ACUICULTURA Y PESCA -AUNAP- Weaknesses and gaps Support of port and coast guard authorities for implementing the legislation on sharks and other species (Rsls. 744, 190 on sharks and 087 on Observers). Difficulty in monitoring artesanal catches at ports. Surveillance on the high seas Coast guards and Observers Strict and continuous monitoring of trade (airports, borders, etc.).
