Tenpin Bowling New Zealand Inc. RANKINGS POLICY EFFECTIVE 01/01/2017 Tenpin Bowling New Zealand Inc. 266 Sturges Road Henderson Auckland 0612 NEW ZEALAND (Updated on the 10 th of December 2016) Supersedes Ranking Policy with version dated 3 rd of Oct 2016 after the second review at the Board Meeting held on the 10 th of December 2016. Rankings Policy (effective 01 Jan 2017) Page 1

1. Objectives of this policy The objectives of this policy are: i. To rank athletes competing in TBNZ ranked events, according to performance in those events based on the division that they participated in ii. To set guidelines that will apply to centre requirements and tournament formats for ranked events iii. May be used as one of the factors for consideration for potential invitation to the National Squad, and in some circumstances Team Selection 2. Divisions Rankings will be compiled for the following athlete divisions: Open Divisions Men Ladies Youth Men Youth Ladies Junior Boys Junior Girls Senior Men Senior Ladies Grand Senior Men Grand Senior Ladies Graded Divisions Graded Male Graded Female 3. Centre requirements to host a ranked event a) The centre MUST have completed lane certification prior to the tournament being conducted b) The centre MUST have fully operational foul lights (if not, foul judges must be in place) for the whole period of the tournament c) The centre management (or the organising tournament committee) MUST pay TBNZ the tournament ranking fee of $5 per bowler after each ranked event d) The centre management (or the organising tournament committee) MUST submit the lane pattern together with the tournament rules. This implies that no centre-run tournament will be published or advertised in the TBNZ website without the full set of documents (tournament rules, entry form and lane pattern with the side-to-side ratio noted) e) For TBNZ-run events the lane pattern MUST NOT have a side-to-side ratio higher than 5:1 and for all other tournaments must not be more than 6:1 f) The tournament MUST be open to ALL TBNZ members this means that regional events are not ranked events. g) After each tournament, it is the Centre s or the Organising Tournament Committee s responsibility to provide TBNZ with the full results for ranking purposes. Rankings Policy (effective 01 Jan 2017) Page 2

Note: No tournament information will be published on the TBNZ website unless this is agreed with and approved by the TBNZ Tournament Committee. The TBNZ website will be the official source of information for tournament rules and results for all members. 4. Event Grades Grade 1 will only be allocated to all age group TBNZ Nationals or a TBNZ-run end-of-year grade finals, if one is held All centre-run events will be ranked as Grade 2 on the proviso they meet any of the following formats: o All Events Type Comprises of Singles, Doubles, Team (either trios, 4-man team or 5-man team) Minimum of 9 games for the All Events Masters qualification will be based on All Events from first or multiple attempts The masters event may start from scratch, or may carry over pinfalls from the AE qualifying stage to determine the winner. Preferably with multiple lane patterns (combination of Short/Medium/Long) i.e. the pattern used for finals/masters may be different from that used in qualifying o o Singles events WITH Masters Minimum qualifying number of games for a valid qualifying score is 6 games. Tournament may allow for multiple attempts. The qualifying stage may be multi-stage before the masters event The masters event may start from scratch, or may carry over pinfalls from the qualifying stage to determine the winner. Preferably with multiple lane patterns (combination of Short/Medium/Long) i.e. the pattern used for finals/masters may be different from that used in qualifying Singles events with NO Masters i.e. based on total pinfall only Minimum 16 games for both Open and Seniors Minimum 10 games for Youth and Graded Preferably with multiple lane patterns (combination of Short/Medium/Long) if the games are split over two days For all grades, should male and female be combined in an open division the female bowlers will have +8 per game handicap (e.g. only one Junior/Youth division, then the girls will have +8 handicap) Rankings Policy (effective 01 Jan 2017) Page 3

5. Ranking Method a) Entries multipliers will be applied to award higher ranking points for events with a higher number of participants. Multipliers will be calculated and applied separately for each ranking division. The table of multipliers that will be applied is shown on page 6. b) An athlete s best six (6) points scoring events in addition to their Age Group s Nationals will count towards their overall rankings position. c) Graded results will be ranked for Male and Female athletes (no separate rankings by Age Division for Graded athletes). Graded results will not be included in the Open ranking divisions. d) Only Open Ranking divisions will be considered for National Squad eligibility purposes. Graded rankings will not be considered. e) There will be no double-dipping in ranking points. To further clarify this statement, a Youth or Senior athlete competing in an Open division will only get Open ranking points. The only exception to this rule is for the Senior ladies (in Open and Senior grades only) due to the number of athletes competing. Refer to section 6 (c) f) Ranking points will continue to be published for a rolling 12-months period but with the exceptions described in g), h) and i) g) A particular tournament will not be represented in the rankings more than once, so it falls twice within a 12-month period, only the most recent edition will appear in the rankings h) TBNZ run tournaments will always remain in the rankings until they are run in the following year i) Other tournaments can remain in the rankings for up to 13 months if its most recent edition is scheduled later in the calendar year than in the previous year 6. Clarifications/Exceptions a) If an athlete misses an event through national representation, and competed in that event in the previous year, the athlete will be awarded equivalent points for the position they finished in that year. b) If the event is a multi-division Open event Open, Ladies, Senior, Youth etc. then the points indicated on the following pages will apply in all divisions. c) Senior Ladies that compete in a Ladies event will have their ranking points carried over to Senior Ladies. If Senior Ladies elect to bowl in an open Senior event, then the ranking points earned in the Senior event will apply d) Where there is only an open Seniors division, Grand Senior points will be allocated to athlete who qualify by age in the Grand Senior division with the same point earned in the Seniors division. e) Where Juniors and Youth are combined as one open division, Junior points will be allocated to the athlete who qualify by age in the Junior division with the same points earned in the Youth division f) If athletes complete more than one Graded event in a single tournament, the highestranking points that have been earned will apply Rankings Policy (effective 01 Jan 2017) Page 4

g) Where Graded events are handicapped, graded ranking positions will be determined from scratch qualifying/all events pinfall. Where Graded events are not handicapped, championship or masters results will be used to determine graded ranking positions. h) For events that have no Masters (e.g. Seniors Tours) ranking points will not be awarded to athletes that have only partially completed the event i) For events that have a Masters, no ranking points will be awarded where an athlete fails to complete their qualifying attempt. Where qualifying is by way of All Events, then the All Events must be complete to earn ranking points j) Following on from the previous two notes, incomplete entries will not be counted for Entries multiplier purposes. k) Team only event-type tournaments (e.g. Doubles, Trios, etc.) will NOT be ranked l) ALL TBNZ National Team Championships may NOT be ranked. This will be at the discretion of TBNZ and will be outlined in the tournament rules m) Centre-based only or regional-based/series type events will NOT be ranked Any matters arising that are not covered by these rules will be decided by the CEO, TBNZ National Tournament Director and TBNZ Ranking Officer in consultation with the Board in the best interest of Tenpin Bowling New Zealand and all its members. Any variations to the ranking of TBNZ-run events will be articulated in rules of the said tournament. Rankings Policy (effective 01 Jan 2017) Page 5
