Taddabur of the Quran ( القرآن (تدبر English Translation Surah Al Maeda Day 12 (النداءات في سورة المائدة ( Maeda Addresses in Surah Al There are 16 addresses of O you who believe أيها الذين آمنوا) (يا in Surah Al Maeda. Al-Ansâb, (O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, and ) م نت ہ ون ٠٩( ) and Al Azlâm (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitân's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. (90) Shaitân (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allâh and from As-Salât (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain? (91)) Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is addressing the believers with the most beautiful address, so listen o you who believe because there is goodness for you and protection from evil. Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is telling us there are matters that are an abomination and from the acts of the shaitan. First is alcohol which covers the mind, then gambling or dealing in chance transactions where all is taken, and any items used for luck or divination. Whoever engages in these acts then it spoils and dirties him. These are from the acts of the shaitan and we all know the shaitan is a clear enemy. It s not possible for a person to succeed and profit from these matters. It might appear to have some outwardly benefits, but it s all loss. May Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه protect us and our families from all of these matters. Ameen. What does the shaitan want from these matters? To place enmity and hatred between the people, and this is exactly what happens, especially with alcohol and gambling. Alcohol takes over the mind which leads to violence and killing, and gambling and chance transactions cause unjust loss of wealth. These matters take the person away from what makes him succeed and happy, which is the remembrance of Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه and the prayer. Those engaged in alcohol and gambling waste their time and body only for loss in the end. May Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه protect us. Ameen. How does Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه end this ayah, will you not stop?, subhan Allah. The one who s using his mind will keep away harms him. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱل ذ ي ن ء ام ن و ا ل ي ب ل و ن ك م ٱ لل ب ش ى ء م ن ٱلص ي د تن ال ه ۥ أ ي د يك م و ر م اح ك م ل ي ع ل م ٱ لل م ن ي خ اف ه ۥ ب ٱل غ ي ب ف م ن ( :94.12 Surah Al Maeda (O you who believe! Then whoever transgresses thereafter, for him there is a painful torment) From Allah s favor, He informs us of what kind tests can take place in the future. What are the tests and their questions? Those in ihram cannot hunt, and Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه will test them with something they want to hunt. It will be something easy to do. What is the reason for the test? In order to know who fears Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه while He can t be seen. For example, one of the people who will be shaded under Allah s shade is the one who s called by a woman of beauty and status, and he says I fear Allah. The sin is near and easy, but Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is testing to see who will Page 1

fear Him. Allah ( وتعالى (سبحانه already knows everything about us from before, but the moment a person falls into a sin then the knowledge becomes exposed to the person as a result he will be recompensed accordingly. Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه does not punish or reward us according to what s in the Preserved Tablet until the action or knowledge is exposed. (O you who believe! Allâh has forgiven what is past, but whosoever commits it again, Allâh will take retribution from him. And Allâh is All Mighty, All-Able of Retribution) A person cannot hunt while in ihram, or even tell someone to hunt or tell him where to hunt. If a preson ends up hunting, it s forbidden to eat from it. Why? To magnify these rites. For example, when you re in the prayer you can t eat, drink or engage in conversation, but before or after the prayer you can. Why? To magnify this worship. It shows you there are boundaries to everything. Whoever hunts intentionally then he needs to give a sacrifice equivalent to what he hunted and distribute as sadaqah. Or expiation by feeding the needy or fasting for each needy person. This is to show the importance of fulfilling the trusts and to not take these matters lightly. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱل ذ ي ن ء ام ن و ا ل ت س ل و ا ع ن أ شي ا ء إ ن ت ب د ل ك م ت س ؤ ك م و إ ن ت س ل و ا ع نہ ا ح ي ن ي ن ز ل ٱل ق ر ء ا ن ت ب د ل ك م ع ف ا ( :101.14 Surah Al Maeda (O you who believe! But if you ask about them while the Qur'ân is being revealed, they will be made plain to you. Allâh has forgiven that, and Allâh is Oft Forgiving, Most Forbearing) Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه forbids His believing slaves from asking things where the answer will make you sad. For example, some people would ask the Prophet (ﷺ) are our forefathers in the hellfire? There is no goodness in these types of questions. Or to ask matters that are unrealistic or impractical where there s no benefit to it. Even in everyday life, you don t need to ask questions that will irritate others, what did you? Where did you go? Who was there?. A person should not answer questions where someone wants to create a fitna, for example a person will come to a scholar and say, so and so scholar said this, what do you say?. These questions should not to be answered because it s not causing betterment for others. The Companions used to ask the Prophet (ﷺ) questions and ayat would be revealed answering them. Asking too much will complicate things and make matters difficult. If Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه didn t mention it then you don t need to ask about it especially while the ayat of the Quran are being revealed. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱل ذ ي ن ء ام ن و ا ع ل ي ك م أ نف س ك م ل ي ض ر ك م م ن ض ل إ ذ ا ٱه ت د ي ت م إ ل ى ٱ لل م ر ج ع ك م ج م يع ا ف ي ن ب ئ ك م ب م ا ك نت م ( :105.15 Surah Al Maeda (O you who believe! The return of you all is to Allâh, then He will inform you about (all) that which you used to do) Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is telling the believers to make yourself your first concern. But you find we re worrying about others and forgetting ourselves, subhan Allah. Make the effort to correct yourself first because you re responsible for yourself first. Before saying look at what the people are like, look at what they re doing, look at yourself. A person needs to work on fixing himself and saving himself first and getting on the Straight Path. We have no power or authority over anyone. We can t make others guided or change their hearts, we can only advise. We have the ability to change ourselves, but not others. If you took the Straight Path and others didn t, then they re only harming themselves, not you. This doesn t mean a person doesn t enjoin good or forbid evil, but he shouldn t neglect himself or force others either. When a person becomes over-concerned with guiding others and forgetting himself then he doesn t end up reforming himself for the better. When you correct yourself, then you become an example for others to change themselves. ي أ ي ہ ا ٱل ذ ي ن ء ام ن و ا ش ہ د ة ب ي ن ك م إ ذ ا ح ض ر أ ح د ك م ٱل م و ت ح ي ن ٱل و ص ي ة ٱثن ا ن ذ و ا ع د ل م نك م أ و ء اخ ر ا ن م ن ( :106.16 Surah Al Maeda غ ي ر ك م إ ن أ نت م ض ر ب ت م ف ى ٱ ل ر ض ف أ ص ب تك م م ص يب ة ٱل م و ت ت ح ب س ون ه م ا م ن ب ع د ٱلص ل و ة ف ي ق س م ا ن ب ٱ لل إ ن ٱر ت ب ت م ل ن ش ت ر ى ب ه ۦ ث م نا you, O) you who believe! We shall not hide Testimony of Allâh, for then indeed we should be of the sinful.") When a wassiyah is written, and a person is reaching his death, then he needs two people to witness his wassiyah. We ask Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه for the good end. Ameen. It s important to have things verified with witnesses so that others are not lost after one s death. You need to take witnesses who are believers and just. If there are no Muslims, then you can take non-muslims. This ayah shows the importance of writing a wassiyah and to have witnesses to it. If something is not written then a person needs to swear to having heard it. Those are the ones whose hearts Allâh does not want to purify (from disbelief and hypocrisy); for them there is a disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a great torment) The Prophet (ﷺ) would get sad when he would see someone accept the faith and then go back to disbelief. He was so caring for others, and Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is telling him to not be sad for someone who s hastening towards disbelief, subhan Allah. Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه said those who showed belief outside and then went back to disbelief is because they said they believe with their (سبحانه وتعالى) tongue, but not with their hearts. If a person truly believes with his heart then Allah will keep him firm. Those who leave the deen are the ones who said they believe from outside but they disbelieve inside. So their tongues and hearts are not the same. Allah وتعالى) (سبحانه is saying if He wants fitna for someone then you can t do anything about it.
